00:02usually when NASA releases a video beamed from space you expect something like this or maybe
00:08this but recently the space organization sent this video streaming some 19 million miles across the
00:13solar system from a spacecraft back to earth but why well it's not about the video itself but
00:19rather the method by which it traveled namely a new form of transmitting data called deep
00:23space optical communications NASA's psyche spacecraft beam the video back to researchers
00:28showing not only one of their cats but it also included some information about the spacecraft's
00:33orbital path and other technical data related to the laser communications test in fact this video
00:38was sent in ultra HD but was still able to travel over a distance greater than 80 times that of
00:44the
00:44earth to the moon in only 101 seconds which the researchers say was faster than their internet
00:49connection on our planet where they initially downloaded the video deep space optical communications
00:53work by first setting up a beacon wherever you're sending the information so the sender can aim the
00:58laser the spacecraft then beams its signal to the spot using light rather than radio waves allowing
01:03for faster speeds and more information within those communications
