00:30The 6th of February was a turning point for us all.
00:34I tried to do everything I could through my own profession.
00:39During those difficult days, I put my activity on social media for it to be of use.
00:48Her book, Broken Plates, combines traditional ate recipes
00:52with the personal stories of people she met while volunteering after the earthquake.
01:01After the earthquake, her uncle passed away.
01:03Some time later, Shamsay said,
01:06let this book be called Broken Plates because during the earthquake,
01:09we set our tables with whatever we had in our hands.
01:12We ate off those broken plates.
01:20Shamsay says she feared that his world-renowned cuisine
01:24might disappear after many renowned chefs were lost in the disaster.
01:28Instead, she witnessed food, bringing communities together.
01:40We fell into despair.
01:42But afterward, during the recovery process,
01:45I saw that once again the table brought us together.
01:48I saw that ate cuisine wasn't forgotten.
01:51People would keep ate cuisine alive one way or another.
