00:16dan dickerson on the call a lot to be excited about this tiger team and you know one of the
00:21things we touched on briefly is what do you want to see more out of the tigers in the last
00:2545 games
00:26of the season whatever it was 44 going into last night one of the things i said i want them
00:30run
00:30more i want to see more stolen bases i don't necessarily need to see small ball with laying
00:34down the bunt and getting the guy over but they have enough team speed where they could be stealing
00:39a lot more than what they are particularly when they've added max clark to this roster and you
00:43saw max clark on the base path last night uh tanner bybee was preoccupied with them three over there
00:49twice at first base that is one of the biggest aj hinch criticisms i've heard and it might be kind
00:58of the next tweak needed to the baseball rules because it's one of the most exciting plays
01:02and analytics has essentially removed the stolen base from the game or at least significantly so
01:09you have one of the fastest teams and you're not utilizing it because some spreadsheet says it's not
01:15a smart play how many times have you said to yourself steal the guy over move him over you only
01:21need a base hit tigers don't do it no i'm i'm not a big advocate of the bunt until i've
01:26got somebody
01:27at second base then i don't mind it like if there's a runner at second and nobody out and you've
01:32got
01:32somebody at the plate who's a weak hitter you know let's just say for instance you've got
01:37bick history's on second base and you've got matt veerling at the plate would i ask matt veerling to
01:43the bunt sure i have no problem with nobody out yes i want to get the runner over to third
01:46base
01:47i could do that i don't have a problem but it's all situational you got the right guy at the
01:51plate
01:51got the right guy in the base pass and all that but that being said just just being a team
01:55that runs
01:56more look they go to first to third more than any team baseball and that's great i love that part
01:59of
02:00it they're aggressive in that way but when mcgonigal's on at first base and you know there's there's room
02:06to steal steal max clark i want to see him running zach mckinster he's got a pretty he's always had
02:10a
02:10pretty good rate of stealing bases want to see that javi bias want to see him run yeah he was
02:16caught last night but i i don't mind i want to see javi running he can steal bases he's very
02:20crafty
02:20he knows what he's doing not everybody on this team needs to run but they've got guys that can and
02:25i'd like to see more of that that being said this team last night was fun to watch mcgonigal in
02:33particular tower gets buzzed byby goes high and tight mcgonigal ducks and you hear this
02:40loud crack noise you're like did that just hit his helmet or did it hit the bat and then he
02:44behaved like it did hit well he'd be yeah kind of because he's like waiting for the call to see
02:49what it is obviously he knows whether or not it hit his helmet um but he gets up and kind
02:53of glares
02:54over at byby and then byby realizes it hit the bat and byby's like well you're gonna say to hit
02:58the
02:58bat right and they they figure it out yes they hit the bat no problem but mcgonigal gave nothing he
03:05didn't give an inch after that and you could see he was pissed and you know gets out comes back
03:11in
03:11the field makes a great defensive play in the field after that and then laces that double down the right
03:17field line a two-run double to put the team up and it's like that's the big old f you
03:21right back to the
03:22to the guardians could you have done that i mean if that was no i cannot hit the double down
03:26the line
03:26no no but besides that it's major league pitching could you have kind of come back stepped into the
03:33batter's box been able to mentally collect yourself in that way i don't think i could have i mean i
03:38think you would have seen my leg shaking in the batter's box thereafter no i mean look you're talking
03:44about professional baseball camp with myself in that situation i can tell you what it was like for me as
03:48a kid playing little league i was terrified of getting hit when i was in little league right um that's
03:5340 miles an hour yeah and some guys are throwing harder yes but my first step was plus i have
03:58horrible eyesight in my left eye and as a right-handed hitter i have to like turn myself
04:03really open stance to try to see the ball better my first step with my front leg was towards third
04:10base i was in the bucket all the time because i was afraid of getting hit and i needed to
04:14see the
04:14ball better it wasn't until i got older and i went to tigers fantasy camp in 2006 and i had
04:21an
04:21opportunity again to play baseball which was one of the most amazing experiences of my life i would
04:27recommend to anybody that's ever played baseball once you get older in life if you get into your
04:3130s your 40s go to tigers fantasy camp it's an amazing time or go to any fantasy camp in baseball
04:38that they have for the various teams it's great former players are out there it's awesome it's a
04:42great atmosphere tremendous camaraderie and you get to play baseball and you're going against all
04:47different types of skill sets you got old timers up there guys that are in their 50s 60s maybe even
04:52in their 70s but they're just playing for the love of the game and they're just trying to get the
04:56ball
04:56over the plate and pitch it to you and then you got guys that are hot shots in their 20s
04:59that want to
05:00show you that i got the heater that can get over 80 miles an hour still convinced yeah so by
05:05the time
05:05i got there i had become way more confident in hitting like i'm kidding if i get hit whatever i'm
05:12big
05:12enough i'm tough enough i can handle it uh and i did get hit at fantasy camp by the kid
05:17who threw
05:17the hardest of anybody everybody knew this guy like this guy's throwing hard and i stepped in the
05:22batter's box and i thought i'm getting hit i know i'm gonna get hit because he's wild and he throws
05:27inside he's right-handed i'm right-handed it's just gonna be an inside pitch i'm gonna take one in the
05:31ribs or in the back he's not gonna hit me in the head i feel pretty confident about that but
05:35i got up
05:35there and i was waiting for it and sure enough he hit me at that point this is the my
05:40last game i was
05:41playing before i had to come back and i wanted to keep hitting and i said the umpire he said
05:46do i
05:46have to take first base he goes no you don't you can stay and hit i'm like okay and then
05:50my teammates
05:50told me no you have to go to first base we need the runners and they're all about winning the
05:54game
05:55all right i'll take the base but i really wanted to stay in there and hit you know long story
05:59short
05:59i got hit right in the upper arm oh wow just took it right off the the most amazing thing
06:05to me
06:05that i see in pro sports is how mlb players run to first like nothing happened when they got hit
06:11with a lethal weapon at 95 miles an hour i don't understand you get hit if you got meat on
06:16the
06:16bone there it's okay if a lot of guys have the armor to protect themselves these days you know
06:22there's a lot of factors that go into it uh some more texts that come again i just want to
06:26say i agree
06:26with you mark i mean i'd be on the ground like they'd have to bring out the stretcher they might
06:30have
06:30to call like the uh downtown emergency vehicles the hospitals come get me like it'd be terrible
06:35like and me and you're big mma fans we watch you have seen things like that if anyone calf kicked
06:40me i'd call the fight right there exactly honestly it'd be over like that's gonna leave a mark i'm
06:46out of here like i'm done riley green got hit in the calf last night and he's down he's like
06:52oh and
06:52it gets up and i'm like oh it's the calf you're fine and they're like no you're not fine the
06:56pitch
06:57comes at you at 90 miles an hour hits you in a specific spot right in the mush there
07:02he gets over to first base he's got to shake it off and then torkelson launches his double in the
07:06gap and now ron has got to run he's going he's going he's going and he's done for the game
07:11if i
07:12got hit in the foot an ambulance would be on the field yes in the foot these guys run to
07:17first like
07:18a mosquito bit him in the arm i stubbed my toe at home on the corner of like the bed
07:21uh you know
07:23i'm on the ground for like 20 minutes like oh this is how this is how it ends yeah this
07:28is how
07:28it ends ever step on kibble in the middle of the night bare feet no i can't say i'm actually
07:33a lego
07:34same thing yeah it's a lego take me to the emergency room i need help i'm like tell my mom
07:40i love her
07:40exactly we'll talk soon 248-539-9797 is a telephone number we're going to switch gears to football coming
