00:00No, no, they do not cause cancer and they are not radioactive, no.
00:06The biggest myth that I hear is about all of the toxic materials that are going to leach out of
00:12wind turbine blades or solar panels in landfill.
00:14Now, wind turbine blades is the easiest one.
00:16They are plastic, glass and some metal, which is going to be copper, steel, aluminium, some combination of those.
00:24I know because I spent five years working for a wind turbine manufacturer, including a lot of time in the
00:29factories.
00:30I promise that's all that's going into those blades.
00:32Solar panels is a bit more complicated.
00:34In Australia, nearly all solar panels are silicon PV and they have got absolutely nothing toxic in them besides some
00:42lead in some solder, like in any kind of electrical equipment.
00:45There are thin film solar panels that have some cadmium in them, but basically not in Australia.
00:50There's only 3% of the world's solar panels and only three wind farms in Australia.
00:56And in any case, studies have shown that those are not leaching into the soil underneath those wind farms.
