00:05With people spending so much time away from home,

00:11and kind of help them acclimate to where they are.
00:15This kitchen is one of four at the Royal Australian Air Force's base in Darwin,
00:20hosting more than 80 chefs from Canada, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and the United Kingdom.
00:27tasked with cooking up 3,600 meals every day during exercise pitch black.
00:33It's a pretty cool experience, seeing all the techniques,
00:36like how they cook food, what type of dishes they want to make
00:40and learning how they do their things.
00:43It's also a chance to share a slice of home.
00:46We had the chance to do Nanaimo bars, sugar tart.
00:51Unfortunately, we don't have maple saver fever, so yeah, we did our best
00:54and people have enjoyed it so far, our own Canadian dessert.
00:59Exercise pitch black is all about improving Australia's relationships
01:02with our closest allies and neighbours,
01:05offering crews the opportunity to taste working life from countries around the world.
01:10It's nice to meet different cultures from all around the world
01:13and take recipes, share your own way of doing things as well.
01:17They do some good curries here, so I've actually got a whole list that I've got emailed to me back
01:23home.
