00:00Why is it important to talk about cardiovascular health in men?
00:03My name is Carlos Andrés Ortiz Trujillo,
00:07I am the head of cardiology at the Cardioinfantil Foundation La Cardio.
00:11First, because at every stage of life,
00:14and especially during productive years,
00:18that we're talking about people aged 40 to 65,
00:21This is where the greatest cardiovascular risk accumulates.
00:25And this is what leads to premature heart attacks,
00:30Heart damage and cerebrovascular disease.
00:33But that's not all,
00:35the fact that they suffer from the disease
00:38It takes away quality years of healthy life.
00:42And many of them will stop producing for their family niche.
00:46and they will no longer have a proper experience in old age.
00:52Because every time I have a cardiovascular event
00:55or a situation that complicates matters of the heart,
00:58I may face risks later on.
01:01of having any sequel event
01:04such as heart failure,
01:07atrial fibrillation,
01:08sudden death problems.
01:10Remember that sudden death
01:12It is a condition that occurs more frequently in men
01:15and at these ages.
01:17And be aware, because there is also a gap in years of life achieved
01:24Women haven't earned it for six years in Colombia.
01:28And this is due to two fundamental conditions.
01:31One, cardiovascular risk factors
01:34that are silent
01:37and they will produce that silent heart damage
01:40which can manifest prematurely.
01:43Number two, the exhibition,
01:46especially habits such as sedentary lifestyle
01:50and tobacco
01:52They will generate a greater cardiovascular risk in men,
01:56especially topics related to obesity,
02:00increased visceral fat
02:01And number three, mental health.
02:05We have always talked about mental health
02:07as a cardiovascular risk factor,
02:09But we men eat in silence,
02:12we remain silent
02:13and we don't express what we carry inside.
02:16That's why we carry a heavier load.
02:19both physical, allostatic and psychological.
02:22So, it's important to recognize
02:25cardiovascular mental health conditions
02:28such as depression,
02:30such as anger,
02:32such as stressful events
02:34and to be able to socialize them.
02:37Remember that as men
02:38We can also ask for help.
02:42Thank you!
