00:00House of the Dragon, Season 3 Finale. The Rumble at Tumbleton. This is a recap of the most recent
00:06episode of HBO's House of the Dragon. It contains spoilers. That's what a recap is. Season 3
00:14Finale Credits. And the final addition to the Diayu. Tapestry we get this season is a scene
00:19from the end of last week's episode. Aegon going full Scott Stapp as Sunfire rears up behind him
00:25and lights up the Moudan soldiers. It's a scene whose sheer awesomeness has the knock-on effect
00:30of igniting the tapestry itself. Meta. So it doesn't rip apart like it used to, reflecting what the
00:37Civil War is doing to the realm of Westeros as a whole. Now the tapestry burns to reflect what's
00:43about to go down in Tumbleton specifically. At the Red Keep, Renera learns that Aegon is back,
00:49baby, along with Sunfire, and that the news of their whirlwind reunion tour is rippling across
00:55Westeros. The small folk are welcoming the resurrection of the true king. Even Renera's
01:01most loyal royal subjects are wavering, and have descended on the king's landing sept to seek
01:06the faith's guidance in Rhi, whom the gods want sitting on the Iron Throne. Demon convinces
01:11Renera that she should let him root the high towers out of Tumbleton already. I'll note in passing here
01:17that in High Valyrian the name Tumbleton is pronounced Tumbletui Chen. Hey Renera, don't be a drag,
01:23just be a queen. She instructs him not swoop in on car axes and burn them out en masse,
01:28like some kind of mad Targaryen dragon queen executing a rushed, poorly established, and wildly
01:34underwritten last-minute heel turn. No, he should go house to house, rooting them out individually,
01:40which explains why at least one of the show's many, many dragons doesn't figure largely in the battle.
01:46Corly's status as a hostage of Ormond Hightower greatly concerns Bela, when she learns that the
01:52queen does not share her concern. She snaps at Renera, accusing her of using the people she needs
01:58and ignoring the rest, which is meant to paint Renera as a cold, calculating tyrant I suppose,
02:04but I don't know. I can't help thinking homegirls got bigger fish to fry than managing all this
02:10intrafamilial emotional misegas. She's at war. She's awash in dilemmas and deficiencies. Famously,
02:17using the people she needs, isn't that just efficient governance? Is she ruling a realm
02:22or facilitating group therapy? Do you really want to see her roll up her sleeves, pull the iron throne
02:28into the center of the circle, sit down backwards on it, and say, okay, I'm hearing that this is
02:34bringing up some issues for you. Let's unpack them together. I don't, but clearly lots of folks in
02:40Westeros do, because more Valerions from Driftmark arrive in King's Landing, and they share Bela's
02:45complaint, demanding that Corlys be rescued. Alan, who we learn this episode, is a true company man,
02:52the company in this case being Renera Incorporated, brushes them off. In Tumbleton, Ormond knights
02:58dare on, because in Westeros you have to be a knight before you can be a king. Tell that to
03:03John Goodman.
03:04Ulf is carousing drunkenly with some Tumbletonians, having fully switched from black to green like a
03:10goth on St. Patrick's Day. Back in the Red Keep, Renera inspects her father King Viserys' crown.
03:17You'll remember that Ser Eryk Kargil swiped this crown from the castle and delivered it to her on
03:22Dragonstone, so that Aegon had to be crowned with the circlet originally worn by Aegon the Conqueror.
03:28A servant reports that Helena is not eating, but Renera isn't concerned about that.
03:33Atta girl. Focus on the needs of the realm, not the neediness of others. She wants to force the
03:39High Septon to allay the small folks' confusion and anoint her. Miseria is sent packing, though she
03:46does get some hunks to help haul her junk, at least. She also gets passage to Pentos, and enough gold
03:52to
03:53set herself up with a manse and servants. Imagine that. In Pentos. The real estate market is crazy there.
04:00That's one hell of a severance package. Especially considering the kind of severance that other
04:06masters of whispers have gotten, over the years, read. Head from body. In the Red Keep, Helena sees
04:13the pale horse she dreamed about, and gets a quick info dump from a departing Miseria. Aegon lives,
04:19so Helena's unborn child is now even more of a hostage than it was before.
