00:00When the camp schedule got released, I said to you, there's some big breaks here,
00:04but I've got to give Quinn credit.
00:06He said this is going to be the most competitive camp he's run, and it is.
00:09Last year was light.
00:10This year is heavy.
00:11It is.
00:11It is, and I think they need it.
00:13You know, when you look at that schedule, I think the intensity had to go up,
00:16and they've done that.
00:17And then you watch.
00:18I think the offense and the defense both are trying to do their best to work each other.
00:23Totally.
00:23You know, a lot of times you get people in practice and training camp,
00:27and they don't want to deal with each other.
00:28But I watch those dudes, and they're going one-on-one.
00:31They are, like, thankful for the other guy for making him work,
00:34and I think you've got to go at it sometimes.
00:36So let's start with one-on-ones.
00:39Obviously, the big news Saturday night, Laramie Tunsell, torn tricep, needs to get surgery.
00:44Dan Quinn spoke this morning, said the surgery hasn't happened yet,
00:47hasn't been scheduled quite yet.
00:49I imagine that will happen in the coming days here.
00:52Can't sugarcoat this one.
00:53You know, those ESPN lists of the top ten players of their position,
00:57as voted on by coaches, executives, scouts,
01:00Tunsell's the only player on this roster that made one of those lists.
01:03You can argue he's their best player.
01:06He's certainly among their best players.
01:08This is a blow to the team, period.
01:12Next paragraph, the season hasn't even started.
01:15Nothing's over yet.
01:16No, nothing is over.
01:17And I think, like I said, talking to you out there,
01:20you can game plan for stuff like that.
01:21You know, if you've got a left tackle who's as good as he is,
01:24when he's there, he doesn't need help.
01:27But when you put someone else there, let's say it's a Wiley or a Coleman,
01:31you have to do some help.
01:32And there have been offensive coordinators in this town that would refuse to chip
01:37or refuse to help.
01:39A tight end before you release blocking is going to be wide-ass open once he gets out.
01:44If you have a running back doing the same thing, he'll be open.
01:46But you make sure you secure that block before you go anywhere.
01:50And I think it could change up things.
01:51So that's one thing they can do to help it out.
01:55It is a blow.
01:56But it's not like that you lose Jaden.
02:00That would be a blow.
02:02This right here is something that you lose, but you can still operate with it.
02:05So it's funny you say that.
02:08Saturday night, as this was all happening, it kind of thrust me back into work mode.
02:13I thought we'd hear something, but I thought it'd be Sunday, not Saturday evening.
02:17And credit to Garofalo, who was able to break the news.
02:19But as I was having to do a lot of work and kind of reacting live, I'm sitting there with
02:24Lauren, and she said, I feel like everybody's freaking out.
02:29It's not Jaden.
02:31I'm going to be very honest.
02:32If Jaden goes down again, they're screwed.
02:35I think Mariota can help for two, three games.
02:38But if you have to rely on him more than that, last year the results weren't really good.
02:41Those ugly turnovers started rearing their head again.
02:43And the Tunsil news is bad.
02:47But go back to 2024.
02:49Brandon Coleman started 15 games at left tackle.
02:51They got to the NFC title game.
02:53I'm not going to pretend that all of the Coleman looks were good.
02:56There was some bad out there.
02:57But he was a rookie left tackle who got the job done.
03:00Oh, yeah.
03:01What's...
03:02You have to separate the words from the actions because Coleman plays it as a rookie.
03:07That offseason, they trade for Tunsil and they draft Conner.
03:10So they showed you what they thought of Coleman at tackle.
03:13Now they kind of have to do the dance of, no, we always liked him.
03:15He's back.
03:16He's our guy.
03:17And last year was even more problematic for Coleman where they wanted him to be the left guard.
03:22They gave him the opportunity to be the left guard.
03:25They not only then benched him for Chris Paul, they made him inactive for like a month.
03:30So it's an interesting situation they're in now to rely on Coleman again.
03:35I thought he looked fine today.
03:38I mean, it's a situation.
03:39But the whole thing about it is, that was then.
03:42Brandon Coleman has to have the mindset to change it up.
03:45Totally.
03:45And come out because like, you know, that happens for a lot of people.
03:47But football is about...
03:49It's not...
03:49One thing I know about football, when you prepare those first 22 starters, I have never
03:55seen a season where all 22 of them play every play.
03:59So other guys got to be ready.
04:00And this team was put together to have some level of depth.
04:05And if they have the proper depth to be able to hold on, Tossville can be back this year.
04:10You know?
04:11But the ultimate thing is getting there.
04:13And having an offensive line...
04:15An offensive line is not one person.
04:17Yeah.
04:17It's five.
04:18It's some of all of them.
04:19And if you bring somebody else...
04:21It may not be...
04:22That some may be a 9.2 now.
04:24Right?
04:24When you're 9.8.
04:25But you can still perform at a 9.2 if you just go out there and go with the strength
04:29that
04:30you have, although he's gone.
04:31It's tricky because...
04:33I don't know.
04:34Two weeks ago, when Stallion had us doing our training camp position group previews.
04:39Right?
04:39And we did it for like over the course of 10 days or whatever.
04:42Going into this season, I thought offensive line was their best overall position group.
04:47Yeah.
04:47Maybe the quarterback position, but I thought O-line, you had an all-pro caliber player in
04:52Tunsell.
04:53Cosby, to me, is pro-bowl caliber.
04:55You had a rookie that you...
04:57Going into a second year that you thought could continue to advance and develop.
05:00Mm-hmm.
05:01Now, all of a sudden, your offensive line goes from Connerly, Cosby, Allegretti, Paul, or Coleman,
05:07because that was a position battle.
05:08Well, Tunsell, to now Coleman, Paul, so you lose that depth at left guard.
05:13Mm-hmm.
05:14Right now, I guess it's Julian Good-Jones at center.
05:17Like, it is the sum of all the parts, but now we're two parts banged up.
05:21And it's...
05:22We can't pretend it's good.
05:24I also think it's incredibly important in the Laramie-Tunsell discussion to point out
05:29how different the offense is, that Jaden Daniels is not just going to be in shotgun 97% of the
05:35time.
05:35Mm-hmm.
05:36Like, he's going to be under center.
05:37They're going to be running play action.
05:39There's going to be way more misdirection.
05:40I think they'll run the ball more effectively.
05:43All of those things help this situation as well.
05:47Yeah.
05:47So...
05:47Hell, they were the fifth best team in the league last year rushing the football.
05:51A lot of that was quarterback-driven.
05:53Still.
05:53I think that will change a lot.
05:53It doesn't make a difference.
05:54It's running the ball.
05:56And they...
05:56I mean, Jaden wasn't there running as much as he normally does.
06:00He wasn't in the game a lot.
06:01You had other guys coming in and they run, but they still...
06:04You're running back.
06:05We're running the ball effectively.
06:06I think we see far fewer designed quarterback runs in this Blau offense.
06:11You never want to eliminate Jaden's legs.
06:13I mean, they're going to run these bootlegs a lot, which will give him opportunities.
06:17The Tunsell injury is bad.
06:19We're not...
06:20I'm not pretending it isn't.
06:21But, like, the season hasn't even started.
06:24Like, to declare them screwed or whatever, I think is premature.
06:29We'll see what happens when they get into the games.
06:31But at the same time, like, Philly doesn't care that Tunsell's going to be out come week one.
06:36Not at all.
06:36Like, you got to figure it out.
06:38No one is going to care.
06:39I can remember when Ricky Irvin stepped in the leg of Jim Lachey and had a big gash and he
06:47was out for some games.
06:49Nobody cares.
06:51Everybody out there is a professional athlete.
06:53You got to step up.
06:54You know, we live in a society now where when somebody gets hurt, it's like, oh, the sky is falling.
06:59You know how players think?
07:01Next guy up.
07:02It's something that people say, but it is facts.
07:06The next man is up.
07:07He may not be as good as that guy, but that coach has to be smart enough to understand, let
07:11me give him a little help.
07:12And if you do that, you can go on with exactly what you had and have the same level of
07:17success.
07:18I also think, and I'm curious where you land on this, I think Cosby, through now two weeks of camp,
07:25is having the best camp of any of these linemen.
07:28I think you can tell Sam is fully healthy, and I think having him on that line still lets them
07:36feel like they have a leader.
07:39You know what I mean?
07:39Like, it's going to be a tricky situation.
07:43But I was talking, I want to open the phones because I want to let people weigh in.
07:46800-636-1067, 800-636-1067.
07:51But, like, I saw Stallion's tweet Saturday night.
07:54Taylor Decker better be on the next plane from Detroit.
07:57And there's so much conversation in the fan base to immediately go sign a veteran that's available.
08:04Dan Quinn got asked about that this morning.
08:06Number five, Jeffrey.
08:08DQ asked about bringing in a veteran tackle.
08:12Not today, but, you know, from, like, as we're looking at the roster and that, from Adam's standpoint,
08:19that's not something that we discussed, you know, after the injuries.
08:21Honestly, just kind of the well-being of LT and see where he's at.
08:25And we'll know more post-surgery and timelines and all that good stuff.
08:31Taylor Decker, two seasons ago, 24, made the Pro Bowl in Detroit.
08:35He started 14 games each of the last two years.
08:40They've – the Coleman relationship with this front office has been rocky.
08:46Like, when they put him on the inactive last year, they publicly said we got to see him play through
08:51some injuries, right?
08:52I don't know what they were saying privately if they're saying that publicly.
08:55Like, in some capacity, you're debating toughness, right?
08:59If they bring somebody in right now, you are submarining that dude.
09:03So, I'm okay with them not – like, I don't know that you have to bring somebody in right now.
09:08I don't – listen, man.
09:09He played it – he started for you two years ago as a rookie.
09:13He did.
09:13And I think the whole thing is, Laramie is hurt.
09:17You don't immediately just have to run and sign some veteran on another – that's – where is he at?
09:22He on another team sitting?
09:24Are you trading for him?
09:25Or he's not playing with anybody right now?
09:27Decker's tree, yeah.
09:27So, the whole thing about it is, does Decker want to come here?
09:30Does Decker want to play?
09:32We automatically want to go get somebody all the time.
09:36What's the person's mindset?
09:37Are they still in it?
09:39You know, because once you start getting away from this game for a certain amount of time, it's over for
09:42you anyway.
09:44So, my whole thing is, they went in the camp happy.
09:48And I know everyone wants to have every person that starts at that position to be there the whole year.
09:55That rarely ever happens.
09:56You know, you've got to be able to have the other guys play too, and you've got to fight through
10:01it.
10:01The year we went to the Super Bowl, we had injuries, but the next guy stepped up.
10:05You know, and I think that's what we've got to look at.
10:07As a player, when someone gets hurt, I don't go, oh, whoa, it's over.
10:11I start thinking, who the hell is going to step up?
10:14Because most guys that get that opportunity, either you're going to piss or get off the pot.
10:20You know what I'm saying?
10:21Yeah.
10:21You can't sit there all damn day and keep worrying about go get somebody else.
10:27If you've got to always go get somebody else, why the hell did you sign the guys on your team?
10:32The Chargers last year lost both of their first-round tackles.
10:36And say what you want about Herbert.
10:37I know you think maybe he's overhyped or whatever, but he got his ass kicked,
10:41but they still won 11 games and made it to the playoffs.
10:44I agree.
10:44The Tunsil injury is bad news.
10:47It doesn't mean the season's over.
10:49And I had an interesting conversation because I just,
10:51the juxtaposition of the feelings of the fan base from Friday morning to Saturday evening were so stark.
10:59Friday morning, Steph Diggs arrives in town, and the excitement is off the charts.
11:04By Saturday night, Tunsil's got a torn tricep, requires surgery.
11:07And I had a conversation with somebody this morning.
11:11If you look back two years ago, Coleman started.
11:18Do you think that team, here's where I want to ask people.
11:21Are you more, are you still more excited about the offensive possibilities now that Diggs has joined,
11:27or are you more upset that they've lost Tunsil?
11:30Maybe not for the year, but we're talking months.
11:32Like, I think, I think the earliest kind of Tunsil discussion is like Thanksgiving.
11:37And it's hard to even think about Thanksgiving when it's 200 degrees outside.
11:40Yeah.
11:41But, I'm curious for you, like, Diggs arrived, they lost Tunsil.
11:46What will have the bigger impact this season?
11:48But, I think Diggs arriving.
11:51Because I believe you can still move the ball with someone else over there.
11:56No, it's not like I'm going to say, hey, Tulsa put him over there and forget about him.
12:01It's going to come to a little bit more game planning.
12:03But, I believe Diggs being on his offense is going to now open up things more for Terry and other
12:08people as well.
12:09So, I think that is going to have the big impact.
