00:02Moments ago the crowd of hundreds of people here gathered in sunshine fell silent to pay
00:07tribute and mark the memory of Van Viet Truong. Now he was a local business owner here who died
00:13on Wednesday. He was allegedly bashed severely and fatally this time last week. Now we've got
00:19two groups today gathered just down the road from where his shop remains closed today. We've got
00:27across the road we've got people demanding more police presence, tougher laws for those who
00:32perpetrate crimes like this. A group of teenagers has been arrested and some bailed, some remain
00:38behind bars in relation to the alleged attack on Van Viet Truong. That process continues to go
00:45through the courts. Now further down this street just out the front of his shop we've got members
00:49of the Vietnamese refugee community who are paying tribute to him, marking his memory, remembering
00:56the man that he was and we've been told that he was a person who would go out of his
01:01way
01:01to help people and that is what we understand happened when he was allegedly bashed this time
01:08last week. We understand that he'd actually gone to the assistance of another worker from
01:14this area of Sunshine who was being hassled and attacked allegedly by this group of youths.
01:20He stepped in and and he received some fatal injuries which led to his death on Wednesday.
01:27Now speaking to people here there's this feeling of fear we've spoken to shop owners who say that
01:32people are reducing hours they're working and opening their shops over fear about the anti-social
01:37behaviour and violent behaviour here in Sunshine. On the other side of the street people have been talking
01:42about when they themselves have suffered or feared violence and calling for politicians to do more,
01:48calling for more police, bigger presence. There are a lot of police here today and what we're hearing
01:53is that's unusual they say that you know they've all turned out today there's a there's a a big show
01:58but they say that that's not what it's normally like here in Sunshine.
