00:00I think the thing about the gothic and you know any gothic literature making any gothic you know
00:06cinema is that everything is pathetic fallacy right it's not just the weather that is stormy
00:11when people are feeling sad or sunny when people are happy it's that the clothes that they wear
00:17the rooms that they inhabit reflect their emotional landscape so so much of everything
00:22that we made in this movie was to do with that whether it's to do with the underside of things
00:27having hair on them for example so the underside of staircases the underside of tables often had fur
00:33or hair and it's kind of always about looking not just at colour but at texture and kind of explaining
00:39as best as you can what a world feels like emotionally and so when it comes to the colour
00:43palette of the clothes for example it made sense that Cathy makes an imprint on the world that she's
00:48in Cathy is kind of like burns an image onto any space and so we wanted to make sure that
00:53her
00:54clothes were very graphic so they're black white red and you know occasionally like a silver
00:58because she's always a kind of sort of indelible shape but when it comes to Isabella she's sort
01:02of soft and pastel and she has trims which kind of give her this sort of sense of like disappearing
01:07into any room that she's in and so it's just always about looking at what is the emotional reason
01:12for making anything whether it's like the camera shot or you know the fabric on a chair
