00:10How did that feel when you got the news?
00:11I mean, anytime I'm being launched or some kind of special attention,
00:17it always makes me scream.
00:19Screaming, what kind of scream do you do?
00:21Do you do like a horror movie scream, or is it a giddy scream?
00:25Yeah, it's like blood curdling, like falling to my knees.
00:28See, I really like how quick you are.
00:30We've had the chance to speak before, and I think that you're really funny.
00:34I think your songwriting is really clever.
00:36And you're very authentically yourself.
00:37Yes.
00:38How did you get to this moment in your music and personally, to just be so you?
00:42Oh, well, I just don't really have much of a choice, and I figure like,
00:46if I, you know, there's so many people who are doing this job,
00:51and there's just, I don't think it would help me to be like anybody else, so.
00:56Just keep it real.
00:57Yeah.

00:59It's much easier to live that way, I find.
01:01Yeah.

01:02I think it takes a lot of people a long time to really figure themselves out in that
01:05way.
01:06And I know that you've been really open about the Dustins in the world that didn't believe
01:09in you.
01:10What do you have to say to them now?
01:12Oh.
01:14I often think of you and wonder if you're seeing me now, and so if you are.
01:17Do you really?
01:18Yeah, of course.
01:18Do you have any idea where Dustin is now, or those people?
01:21Um, no.
01:23No clue.
01:23But I should try and find out.
01:26I've never taken upon myself to look them up.

01:28I think that's a good thing, right?

01:44Tell me about how that's been going.
01:46Um, it's been great.
01:47It's my first, you know, experience, honestly, traveling the world.
01:50I hadn't left the country before this.
01:52Really?
01:53Yeah, so it's been fascinating, and I just figure it can be quite tough sometimes.
01:58It's very demanding, but I think it's teaching me a very important lesson, which is, like,
02:02you can choose to be happy, you can choose to have fun, and so every day I feel like
02:06I wake up and I choose to be happy and have fun.
02:08I mean, how could you not?
02:09You're doing what you love, what you've always wanted to do.
02:11What was the first country that you visited outside of the U.S.?
02:14It was the U.K., yeah, so I went to London.
02:18It was really cool.

02:19Yeah.

02:20And now, I know that in your tour, you have had a very special opener.
02:25Yeah, pedal.

02:28Tell me how this idea came about.
02:30Oh, I just kind of thought, like, what if I brought out a mannequin and played my favorite
02:34songs by, like, Lady Gaga and, you know, the Black Eyed Peas, and what if they could open
02:38for me?
02:39So, Pedal, what is Pedal's personality like, if you were to explain to her, to somebody
02:44who doesn't know who she is?
02:46I think she's volatile, she has paved her own way, and, yeah, she's also very respectful
02:53and she's, like, very easy to be around.
02:55Oh, yeah, she's very respectful.
02:56She's never once slipped off the crowd.
02:58No.
02:58Oh, well, that's the volatile part of her.
03:01Yeah.
03:02No, that's really, really fun.
03:03Is that something that you're going to continue throughout the entire tour?
03:06Yeah, I think so, probably.
03:08Will we see Pedal at your performance at Lala?
03:11No.

03:12I didn't invite her.
03:13I kind of want this moment for myself.
03:15And you know what?
03:16That's fair.
03:16We don't need anybody outshining her.
03:17I agree.
03:19And I know that right now as we talk, and one of the first things that I noticed when
03:23we had the first chance to chat was a lot of people think you sound a little bit like
03:27Taylor Swift, like your speaking voice.
03:29That's cool.
03:29Have you gotten that before?
03:30I have.
03:31How do you, how does it feel to know that you're being compared to like all these awesome,
03:34you're awesome in your own right, but to all these awesome artists?
03:36Oh, I always think it's awesome.
03:38It's cool.
03:38I mean, the Taylor, any sort of light comparison is an honor.
03:44Absolutely.
03:45Yeah.
03:45Yes, it is.
03:45And I do know that like, you write your own music.
03:49Yeah.
03:50You obviously sing your own songs.
03:51You're a part of the entire process.
03:52Are you able to walk me through your brain?
03:55Like when you have a feeling or a memory or a moment that you want to turn into a song,
03:59what does that process look like for you?
04:01Oh gosh.
04:02I can't remember.
04:02It's been so long, but, um, I just felt very like, uh, my muscle had been working for
04:08a while in collaborations with others.
04:10And so when it came time for me to like sit down alone in a room and I felt a
04:15desire to
04:15write a song, it just felt, I felt a sense of like, um, there are no rules and like my
04:21innate
04:21knowledge of pop.
04:22I like that.
04:23Yeah.
04:23Cause it just, it's, it's completely creative in a way that like, I don't think writing a
04:27script is necessarily like, I think music is more subjective than film.
04:33Um, but taste is all as a real thing for everyone.
04:37So people might not agree with that, but yeah, just like complete creativity.
04:42I, I want to pick your brain about where you got the inspiration for don't go back to his
04:46ass because I think that we, we need to stop singing love songs and breakup songs.
04:52And we need to start telling our friends to leave that man.
04:54Yeah.
04:55So, so I would like for, first of all, if you could look at the camera and just say, don't
04:59go back to his ass.
05:00Okay.
05:01Don't go back to his ass.
05:02Don't.
05:03Um, but what was the inspiration behind that?
05:05Was there like a friend that you were like, please girl, leave that man.
05:07Or what was it like?
05:08Yeah.
05:08I think it's just general.
05:09I've dealt with that a lot.
05:11I think in my life, I've always felt like the clairvoyant friend who's, uh, not dating
05:16anyone.
05:17So naturally I'm like pissed off and paying more attention to my friends.
05:22Um, and, uh, I always saw the bad ones I think before they could.
05:26And I think that's like a universal thing, but I, what I really, really believe is that
05:30like, you can't actually stop your friends from being in a relationship.
05:33I think you have to let them go through it because if your friends are smart, they'll
05:37come to that conclusion on their own, but it is frustrating.
05:40What are, uh, what are some red flags you've ever seen?
05:42Oh, in guys?
05:43Yeah.
05:44Oh, just like we should all watch out for.
05:46I just think like if you, you, I think when you are so obsessed with, uh, being liked,
05:53it's hard for you to actually see the person you're across from for who they are and know
05:56if you're a match or not.
05:57So I think it's a good place to start is just to go, I don't care if this person likes
06:01me so much.
06:02Um, I need to like recognize them for who they are and you'll be able to see quicker.
06:07And I think that goes back to like the self love and like being who you are, being authentically
06:12yourself as you are.
06:13And, um, I wanted to ask, what is a favorite lyric of yours that you have then?
06:18Oh, I really like my songs, Bowling Alley and Sex and the City.
06:20I think, um, I'm proud of those lyrically.
06:22I like the last bit of Sex and the City because I felt I wrapped up the story in a
06:26nice way.
06:27I love it.
06:28And last question.
06:29If there was a candle named after you, what would the candle smell like?
06:33Mmm.
06:33Maybe like wood burned marshmallow.
