The developers of The Witcher and Cyberpunk series have promised that future titles won't suffer from the same issues as Cyberpunk 2077. It all comes down to one crucial, if unexciting, part of the production process: documentation.

00:00Everyone remembers the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, but the developers CD Projekt Red have
00:04said The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 likely won't suffer from the same behind-the-scenes
00:08issues.
00:09And it's all because the studio finally sorted out a crucial, if unexciting, part of the
00:13production process.
00:15Documentation.
00:15CD Projekt Red's lead technical writer, Jaroslaw Draczynski, and senior technical writer Adrian
00:20Filnecek spoke about the company's evolving documentation efforts in a lengthy Digital
00:25Dragons panel attended by GamesRadar.
00:26The duo explained that CDPR has traditionally not documented its games very well, and Cyberpunk
00:322077 was perhaps the biggest victim of this.
00:35Filnecek says the game was a fresh star and a massive undertaking, one the devs thought
00:39they could tackle thanks to a new documentation tool called Confluence.
00:43However, the devs created more than 8,000 unwieldy pages of documentation, and as the project
00:48ballooned in size, maintaining those documents became a low priority.
00:51Mistakes were definitely made, but Filnecek says the future looks promising for us, and
00:56we learned our lesson.
