00:33Today, Palesa Tembe is stepping inside to see how this coastal escape was styled for modern holiday living.
00:40And behind the look, interior designer Edwin Murphy of M Interior Design.

00:47Hi, Pali. Welcome.
00:49Thank you so much for having me. Wow.
00:55Edwin, thank you so much for inviting me into such a warm home.
00:58Thank you, Pali. Welcome. We are here in the Himalayan Arda Valley and we recently had the opportunity to furnish
01:04this house for our clients.
01:06So what was the client brief and what did you envision putting this project together?
01:10What they wanted to envision for this space is to have a more modern aesthetic.
01:14So this property has a lot of windows facing out to the golf course and to the lagoon.
01:19So we really wanted to optimize the views, bringing them to the indoors.
01:24So a lot of the spaces, like you would see the rugs, for instance, are quite large in scale to
01:30entice the user to walk to the outdoors.
01:33I definitely sense all of those elements you've been able to introduce.
01:36And standing here at the entrance hall, I love a good double volume ceiling.
01:40So the sense of arrival of this home divides you into the different directions of this space.
01:46So one of the design principles that we've utilized here was the sense of scale.
01:51So a lot of furniture in this home has been custom made to fit that scale and to enhance the
01:55proportions of each space.
01:57Looking at this lounge space, it seems as if you've really considered how your client lives.
02:01So yes, you're correct. Within this space, we have many focal points.
02:05And how we worked around that was incorporating swivel furniture.
02:10So many of the furniture in this space orientates to different directions.
02:14Within this living space, we also created little pockets of nesting tables.
02:19So as a visitor from overseas, wherever they find themselves in their home,
02:24they can swivel around to see the view or to see the fireplace and they can put their coffee down
02:29right next to them.
02:32Swivel chairs, any view? Yes, please.
02:35And that same idea carries straight through to the kitchen.
02:41So you see here, we've got this conversational seating in front of this massive island.
02:45And these chairs actually swivel so that you can look out to the view.
02:49And what a grand countertop this is.
02:52What were some of the design elements that you've been able to incorporate in the kitchen?
02:56The kitchen island serves the same functionality as the fireplace in the sense that you can revolve around it.
03:02So that connects all the spaces with one another.
03:05The client really enjoys cooking and they needed a lot of counter space.
03:08We used mostly drawers in this kitchen to maximise and storage.
03:12And we've even included a seating area on the side.
03:20Tell me about this beautiful dining room you've created.
03:23So the dining room table has been custom designed and what we've done is we've centred it around the fireplace.
03:28So the fireplace, the pendant lighting and the artwork behind me connects those three elements together to have a cohesive
03:35space.
03:36The pendant lighting creates this halo effect above this custom dining room table.
03:40We designed this dining table specifically for the space.
03:43We had it 3D modelled and we had it manufactured.
03:46Now this house is made for fabulous dinner parties.
03:49And when things spill outside, that's where the real magic happens.
03:54And with the stacking doors, it feels as if the home completely opens up to the golf course.
03:59Absolutely.
04:00This home is completely driven for barefoot living.
04:03You could walk in from the lounge, straight onto the deck, into the pool and straight back in again.
04:09So we've created this breakfast nook outside by the pool area.
04:12And also introducing umbrellas and sun lounges to enjoy the pool and golf course.
04:18A round of golf out front, a cool down in the pool.
04:21Honestly, what more do you need?
04:24And while downstairs brings the vibes, upstairs brings the calm.
04:30Walking into the main bedroom, I feel a strong sense of serenity.
04:35What was your approach when it came to this room?
04:37For this space, we really focused on symmetry to give this room balance.
04:41So what you see on the one side is predicted on the other side.
04:45The design approach in this bedroom is we used muted tones.
04:49So we've wrapped the room with wallpaper.
04:51But it is very subtle and it picks up on the subtle textures that we've used throughout the space.
04:56So the fabric on the headboard is different to the linen, is different to the bed end.
05:01But still they relate to one another.
05:03So one element in a main bedroom is always a television and where to put it.
05:08But for us, a television is a picture with no picture in it.
05:13So what we've decided to do is to have an electronic television that elevates out from the ottoman in front
05:19of the bed.
05:20So by a quick press of the button in the comfort of your bed, you can watch television.
05:24I love that.
05:25What a clever way to deal with that eyesore.
05:27I can only imagine that such a stunning bedroom enjoys an equally elegant bathroom.
05:33Absolutely.
05:34And what we've done in the bathroom is that we've wrapped the bathroom with a wallpaper that creates that same
05:41context and narrative that you're experiencing in the bedroom.
05:44Where you create this one story that takes you on this adventure throughout the home.
05:49This home is full of moments worth stopping for.
05:53You could spend hours exploring every detail or just claim a spot by the pool and call it a day.
05:59Either way, it works.
