00:07My name is Felipe. Please come and have a peek into our paradise.
00:25We would like to present you our home, which is a family house, of course.
00:32And we have five kids and we build this house with all our love and actually all the knowledge
00:38that we have been accumulating for the last years.
00:42What you are seeing now is the blend of an artist mainly, who has been running this project,
00:48and the support of an architect behind.
00:51You can see the combination in between the modern minimalist lines
00:55versus the craziness and the warmness of a creative person like Merzuka.
01:02Yes, actually what I love about this house is that the house is completely new.
01:08Actually, it's not even completely finished, so we are still with small details.
01:13But everybody that comes here feels like the house has been here for ages
01:18because all the pieces that are in the house are actually very old.
01:23They have a long story. I've been collecting them for years in my travel around the world, in India mainly.
01:31And this makes that the house feels made long time ago, you know.
01:42So this house actually, every corner of the house has a story because, for example,
01:47here the practical thing will be, of course, to cover it with a glass and then the rain is not
01:54coming
01:54and it's not coming in the beautiful floor, which is amazing.
01:58But then it loses the magic of the view, which is incredible, as you can see.
02:06So finally I decided not to put the glass and my main concern and my main goal doing this house
02:14was to bring the natural into the house.
02:18And then, well, so the chairs come from India, so they are made out of canvas, which is actually a
02:25nice texture.
02:28And, well, the fabrics are from Africa.
02:31You can see it's a mix of actually Bali, India and Africa mainly.
02:40Okay, so initially the dialogue in the house was pretending to bring the false ceilings into the interiors.
02:49And Mersuka completely disagreed and brought her creativity having 1,148 baskets.
02:59I don't like at all the false ceilings because I think you lose, actually you lose many space and also
03:05you lose the sculpture of the bins, you know, which is so nice.
03:11So then I didn't put any false ceiling in the house.
03:14But then the problem is that sometimes it's too high, which is very nice.
03:19And this space is very big, so the challenge was how to make it cozy.
03:24And then that's why I came, we came with the idea of using all this nest, which actually I love.
03:37Welcome to the barbecue corner and the lounge area.
03:40Here we wanted to represent our way of being as a family, you know, very informal.
03:46We have the barbecue, we have a lounge area to share some drinks.
03:51But again, it's back to what Mersuka was saying, you know, by the slanter boxes, by all the surroundings, it's
03:59nature.
04:00It was as related to nature and developing our life daily basis with Bali as a reference.
04:07Another thing that I have finally in this beautiful house is my own studio, because until this house, I've been
04:14always painting in one corner of the house, which was not a studio itself.
04:20And then I have a very nice studio that I will show you now.
04:27Like an artist, I am also a crazy collector.
04:31OK, so I love the art of other artists.
04:35OK, so I've been buying paintings of other artists all my life.
04:39And then I really needed a place where to show all this oil.
04:44Yes, exactly. Enjoy them and show to the people like kind of a gallery museum.
04:49It's more museum than gallery.
04:51So very welcome to my gallery.
04:57We can say that 90% of my collection, we are talking about paintings, sculptures, fabrics, come from India,
05:06because it's the place that inspires me and, I don't know, my home, actually.
05:11Sometimes I don't know if I live in Bali and go to India or I live in India or I
05:16come to Bali.
05:16What I enjoy the most is the process of finding them because it's actually very difficult.
05:22Every year more difficult to find those kind of pieces.
05:26And this is an adventure.
05:27So I love it.
05:28And for example, this one also, this is a museum piece.
05:31Actually, this could be, this should be in a museum, but it is in my private small museum.
05:39Here is where everything is happening.
05:42OK, all the magic happens here.
05:45And also I'm working in, well, several paintings.
05:49Normally I work maximum in two works at the same time, but also I like to focus more or less
05:57one by one.
05:58So this is totally in the middle of the work.
06:03And as you can see again, look at the nature, which is amazing.
06:08And well, this is the little lounge area where I, where we rest or maybe I have lunch when I
06:17paint 20 hours in a row.
06:19So I even take naps here.
06:22We have all the, I work with materials, many materials.
06:26So here you can see all the drawings, the fabrics.
06:31My art is about texture.
06:34OK, so it's what is the, I will say the main thing of my art.
06:40So that's why it has so many layers and I use so many materials.
06:50So as we said, we have six kids, so they want all of them, their own room, which I don't
06:58understand
06:58because we were used to sleep all together in one because this is what I want.
07:03But of course they are growing.
07:05So this is one, one bedroom of my child, which is again, so much light and so many glasses.
07:15And we have another conflict in this design, which was that the Merzuka was premium, especially when you see the
07:25area of the bathrooms.
07:27Ah, yeah.
07:27Initially it wasn't closed, no?
07:29And Merzuka decided not to do so.
07:32And we have a shower, but she preferred the romanticism of a bath.
07:38Yeah, because again, actually the practicity, which I learned in this house, is that the practicity in architecture is always
07:47against the beauty.
07:48Okay.
07:49You always have to choose practical or beauty.
07:52So now actually it's not very practical not to have a shower.
07:56And actually my kids complain a lot, but to have a shower in this beautiful space means you have to
08:03have a glass here, which of course all the beauty of the space will go away.
08:09And then that's why it was very difficult every decision, you know, because you have always to choose.
08:16There is, it's impossible to choose something beautiful and practical.
08:24Okay. So this is the TV room.
08:27So I will let Felipe explain to you, because if it was for me, we would have not TVs in
08:33the house.
08:33Well, like I always know, practicity against beauty, we have two main discussions.
08:41One was the TV, it's the TV room. Without TV would not be a TV room.
08:45That's my input into all the magic of the house.
08:50And number two, jokes apart, is that we are again back to back, surrounded by nature.
08:55We have the reference of the swimming pool, beautiful bow window composition.
08:59We have the idea that the discussion was curtains or not curtains, cosiness versus nature.
09:07So at the end, we had a Salomonica agreement with rollers instead of curtains.
09:15So when this is another very, for me, very special bathroom, also hand paint the walls and the floor is
09:23a very, very old ceramic.
09:25Okay. That, of course, when I find these floors, it never is enough.
09:31Never is exactly the same amount of pieces that I need for the surface.
09:36And this is one very, very, very old piece from India.
09:40Very, very nice. It was in a temple and it represents the polo game in Jodhpur.
09:46So once again, India.
09:54This is the last project that Felipe did.
09:58We realized that it was a very nice idea to combine the kitchen with a place to stay and the
10:06table.
10:08Because at the end, the family is doing the life in this space, you know, which is very nice.
10:13So that's why you can see that this is the kitchen.
10:17This is kind of a family room.
10:19It's not a kitchen and a daily dining, you know, it's a place where we gather.
10:23We have a coffee, pre, post dinner, and then always in transition to the swimming pool and the breakfast of
10:30chill-out area.
10:31And also, this is like the family eve of the house.
10:36So now we are going to show you the most beautiful bedroom you've ever seen in your life.
10:49So welcome to the master bedroom.
10:52Once again, I always say that the beauty of this house is, I mean, the house itself is amazing.
10:58But what is amazing about this place is, without doubt, the environment.
11:04Look at this, please.
11:05It's a 360 bow window master bedroom and nature surrounding us.
11:12It's a living painting.
11:13We have here rice, here harvesting, here watering.
11:17And back to back, this master was an eternal fight of three months, no?
11:24With two levels, sunken areas, terraces, master bathrooms.
11:29All the paper walls that you see in the room, they come from India, okay?
11:33From, the material is very, very nice because it's very mud, which I love.
11:39And the texture is so nice.
11:41The point was that, again, when we try to see nature into this house, there was several configurations.
11:49The bathtub was here.
11:51The shower was there.
11:52Then we flip it around.
11:54And then Merzuka, as he was saying, after 25 renders, he came on site and says,
12:01what are we guys doing if this terrace is my favorite view place of the house?
12:13Okay, so this is the room of the princess of the house, Sofia.
12:18And then that's why, well, I use this kind of colors, okay?
12:22So this, again, fabrics from India.
12:25And all the paintings are, most of them are representing Sofia and Leonor, actually.
12:32Again, all the spaces are open, okay?
12:35And then here, finally, they convinced me to put one glass, which I didn't want, but there it is.
12:44And also the views, every corner is incredible.
12:52Okay, so we are now in the pool corner, which is a structural element, architecturally wise, of the house.
13:01It has an overflow, which is blending with the tropical flow.
13:06And it's a transition in between our greenery and the jungle and pandans.
13:10It itself is splitted into two areas in transition to allow the circulation to the other parts of the house.
13:19And this, that could be considered as a pond, is a plunge pool for babies and with the fence, the
13:26protection fence of the bridge itself.
13:28And now some steps going into a full swimming area, no?
13:34The beauty of this place, together with the void areas, is the volumetrical game and shadows and lights that we
13:42can see today.
