00:03I arrived at the pop-up hotel to meet the Sephora and Free People teams looking less than sparkly.
00:09I'd spent the previous night in the hot, steamy, queer club NYC Downlow,
00:13which is probably the sweatiest and stickiest I've ever been in a club.
00:17And this was on the first night, with four days to go.
00:20So I was in desperate need of a shower.
00:21After a luxurious shower and brows at Free People's pop-up boutique,
00:25I met my wonderful hairstylist, Vinny and Kay.
00:27Vinny blow-dried and straightened my hair before styling
00:30and then Kay pumped up the roots with Maria Neela's Power Powder for a matte, voluminous finish.
00:36She worked it through in sections for extra lift and hold,
00:39brushing the ends to set the style, which lasted an impressive two days.
00:42The top half of my hair was tied into a ponytail to create the base
00:46and then the bottom half was gathered and secured to match.
00:49Kay twisted the two ponytails together to form a messy bun
00:51and once the base was in place and the sides were set,
00:54she used large hair grips to secure the ends around the bun,
00:58creating a relaxed, lived-in look.
01:00To add dimension, Kay recommended pinning around the bun
01:03and then teasing out the front sections.
01:05I usually avoid updos, but this was ideal for a festival.
01:09It was a welcome change, as my hair usually feels ratty
01:12and waves in all the wrong places, thanks to dust and humidity.
01:16Instead, I felt put together, chic and fresh.
01:18The style also elevated my silky, fluffy, lacy outfit
01:22and honestly, I've never felt so good in a field.
