00:00Why was it important for you to be here at this event today?
00:03I think it's important to take time to celebrate the people who are actually doing something
00:08using their platforms for good, witnessing, bearing witness to what's happening in the
00:14world.
00:14All the different social justice causes, all the different issues that we're facing in
00:20our communities as a society and to do something and move towards the suffering in the world
00:26rather than away from it.
00:27If you had 30 seconds to advocate for a cause that you care about, what would you say?
00:34Right now, we're meeting unprecedented levels of humanitarian disasters.
00:40One thing that's near and dear to my heart is the refugee crisis.
00:45We have 120 million people who have been displaced from their homes with nowhere to go, and policies
00:51around the world, specifically in the United States, have become even more harsh.
00:55And so right now, we need to use our voices to advocate for these people who have no other
01:02options, who are voiceless.
01:05And so as somebody who came from a refugee family, who was born in a refugee camp, this
01:10is something that's very important to me.
01:12And I will continue to use my voice and my platform to highlight this.
01:16For people who want to help and maybe don't know where to start, do you have any advice?
01:21Absolutely.
01:22I always say, think globally, act locally.
01:25And I'm an ambassador with the International Rescue Committee, the IRC, that does invaluable
01:33work for refugees, helping them get resettled, but also giving on-the-ground support and aid.
01:39So you can go to rescue.org and learn more about their work and support the incredible and valuable
01:46work that they do.

01:52What does it mean to receive this recognition and all this acclaim for the show?
01:56I honestly am bereft of words.
01:58I am still speechless.
02:02I can't wrap my head around it.
02:04And I'm also just completely taken aback by the fact that I'm the first Iranian and Middle
02:10Eastern nominated in this category.
02:12I don't take it lightly.
02:15I honor all the women who came before me and all the women who will follow and all the women
02:20who are just as, if not more talented than I am, who don't have the platform, who don't
02:25have the voice and the opportunities.
02:27And so I hold this moment for all women in this category and I'm just so honored.
