00:02On the program today, there's just one story really on everybody's mind,
00:06on everybody's feed and perhaps a conversation in every drawing room,
00:11in every office, around every lunchtime.
00:13It is what's happening with the youth of the country.
00:16It's 26 days and there is still no resolution.
00:20Sonam Bangchuk continues to be on fast,
00:23protesters continue to be on the streets
00:25and the government is not offering or even asking for the resignation
00:30at the moment of Dharmendra Pradhan, which is the key demand.
00:34The government insists that everything will be done except the resignation.
00:40So far, that's the indication that we've got.
00:43Prime Minister, for the first time after 26 days,
00:46made a first direct appeal to the youth,
00:51saying all those behind the paper leaks will be met with.
00:54But has the movement now already moved on?
00:58Is it still about the paper leaks?
01:01Is it still about Sonam Bangchuk?
01:03Or has it turned into something bigger?
01:06That is what we look at over the course of the next one hour.
01:10But also adding insult to the injuries of all those protesting on the grounds,
01:14comes this comment by Nishikant Dubey.
01:18He talks about how protests have been happening since time immemorial.
01:22People who were protesters then are ministers now.
01:26This is, according to him,
01:28got nothing to do with the protests on the ground,
01:30but a lot to do with politics.
01:33Should you really be making comments like these
01:35when you have emotions flaring up the way they are?
01:39Currently, we'll look at that as well.
01:41But first up, as always,
01:43let's take a look at the top headlines at this hour.
01:47Prime Minister Modi has sought to assure protesting students over paper leak menace.
01:52The Prime Minister took to X2 to announce that his government will set up fast-track courts
01:56to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in need paper leak,
02:01signalling that no mercy for exam mafia will be tolerated.
02:06Prime Minister Modi also vowed fast-track justice.
02:10The government once again asked protesting students to return to the talking table
02:15as protests over need paper leak escalates.
02:18Union Minister Jitendra Singh has said that the centre is ready for talks at any time,
02:22as long as needed at his office or Health Minister J.P. Nadda's residence.
02:29What the CJP, what the student body representing the youth is asking for at the moment
02:35is a neutral location.
02:37Meanwhile, the outreach has failed to convince the Cockroach Janta party,
02:41rejecting Prime Minister's fast-track court proposal as inadequate.
02:45The CJP has said it does not address why examination papers are being compromised in the first place,
02:51saying that the real issue is systemic accountability.
02:55The group has reiterated its demand for Education Minister Dharmeen Pradhan's resignation.
03:02The outrage meanwhile has spread nationwide.
03:05It's not just about Delhi anymore.
03:06Protests have erupted in Mumbai, in Lucknow, in Patna, in Begu Sarai, in Bhopal,
03:11with students demanding Education Minister Dharmeen Pradhan's resignation.
03:14Clashes have been reported in Patna, which turned violent,
03:17with police using lathe charge, also water cannons, tear gas shellings.
03:22The protests have expanded beyond neat to broader youth issues now.
03:29Delhi police, meanwhile, have put out more cases of personnel being injured in the clashes.
03:34An ACP was injured in Tolstoy Mark,
03:36while an inspector was allegedly surrounded and assaulted at Jantar Mantar, suffering head injuries.
03:41Police have claimed that protesters pelted stones and attacked security forces.
03:45The Delhi police have also alleged that some protesters sort of brandished swords and cookies.
03:54Now, on the advice of the NDMC chairman and vice chairman of New Delhi Traders Association,
04:00has appealed for offices and restaurants in Connaught Place to close at 6.30pm today.
04:05This comes after violence was reported in Connaught Place.
04:08Amid CJP protests, Delhi police has now released videos of stone pelting as well at them on the 20th during
04:16the CJP protests.
04:17So, there are claims, counterclaims, both sides, injuries, both sides.
04:24The parliament has witnessed fresh disruption and also remained in a deadlock as both Lok Sabha and Rajasabha were adjourned
04:31shortly after proceedings began.
04:33Government and opposition MPs protested against each other near the Makar Dwar.
04:38While the government, you know, has gone ahead and pointed to Prime Minister's announcement on the fast-track courts,
04:47the opposition continued the demand of resignation of Education Minister.

05:47And talking about floods, heavy rains,
05:49continue to batter Gujarat with around 1,200 people rescued and 100 shifted to safer locations.
05:54South Gujarat remains the worst hit and one rain-related death has been reported from the TAPI district as well.
06:00The NDRF, STRF, Air Force and Coastal Guard have been put on alert.
06:04Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has reviewed the situation and spoken to Home Minister Ramit Shah,
06:09who assured all necessary assistance.
06:15The anger over the need to paper leak controversy continues to simmer.
06:19It's not dying down, with students and protesters demanding accountability.
06:23Action against those responsible and answers over what they call a repeated failures in the education system.
06:30But today, for the first time, the Prime Minister stopped avoiding the issue anymore and stepped in.
06:39He stepped in with a strong assurance to the youth,
06:43vowing to fast-track the crackdown on paper leaks and also ensure stringent punishment for those found guilty.
06:51The Prime Minister has said that the welfare of the country's youth is of utmost importance
06:55and that no one who plays with the future of the students will be spared.
06:59He also called for fast-track courts to ensure that swift trials in paper leak cases
07:05and also has issued directions to the concerned authorities to expedite action.
07:10The Centre says the objective is clear.
07:12To safeguard students' interests, punish the paper leak mafia and restore confidence in the education system.
07:21But this appeal by the Prime Minister, the first in 26 days that has come in since the starting of
07:27this entire protest,
07:28has not cut eyes with the youth, especially not with the Kokro Janata Party.
07:33They rejected the court proposal and called it inadequate.
07:38The CGP says that fast-track courts may speed up prosecution after the leak has already taken place,
07:43but do not address why examination papers are being compromised in the first place.
07:48Calling the announcement, band-aid, on a fracture, the group says that the real issue is systemic accountability
07:56and has reiterated its demand for Education Minister Dharmedra Pradhan's resignation.
08:01The CGP leader, Ashutosh Ranka, has argued that paper leaks are not merely a legal problem,
08:06but a systemic failure, sort of alleging that examination machinery itself
08:11has failed to protect the future of millions of aspirants.
08:17So, how do things stand at the end of day 26 and at the end of four days of protests
08:26on the streets of the national capital spreading across the country now?
08:31The CGP, the youth protesters, are sticking to their four demands.
08:37They are demanding the resignation of Dharmedra Pradhan.
08:40That's perhaps the one thing that they're really pressing the most on.
08:44Action against police personnel accused of atrocities during the protests.
08:48That's demand number two.
08:50Demand number three is withdrawal of cases against protesters.
08:54And then there is demand number four of one crore rupees of compensation
08:57for the families of need aspirants who allegedly died by suicide.
09:03Now, in the latest, the government is saying that they have once again
09:08reached out to the protesting students, offering talks to break the deadlock
09:13that seems to have hit.
09:15They also put out a statement saying that the government is ready for talks,
09:19giving the students as much time as needed.
09:22And they have reached out four times since morning.
09:27In fact, Jitendra Singh, no less than him, union minister there,
09:31said that he has reached out four times since morning.
09:33He says both the health minister and I are ready to meet the protesters.
09:36Remember Jitendra Singh and J.P. Nadda have been two people
09:39who've been negotiating from the side of the government.
09:43J.P. Nadda with the students, Jitendra Singh with the politicians
09:47and the opposition.
09:48Now, they're both saying that they want to sit down for as long as possible
09:52as required with the CJP.
09:56Now, health minister, remember, said that he's ready to host the meeting
10:00at his residence or at his office.
10:03But what's holding back the conversation, you ask?
10:06Well, CJP, if you'll remember, on day one of the protest,
10:09on the 20th, on Monday, when the first time it got violent,
10:14they allege that a similar proposal had come from the government back then.
10:19They went and spent a long time in J.P. Nadda's home office.
10:24But in that long time, the conversation that they actually had
10:27was only about 10 minutes or so.
10:30So they're saying this was, according to them, a distraction tactic.
10:34But was it really?
10:35The government is saying we are committed.
10:36So what's going to happen next?
10:39Will they manage to meet at a neutral location as the youth protesters have asked for?
10:45Or will this continue to be a deadlock for 26 days running now?
10:50That's going to be the key question.
10:52But remember, while all of this happens, you have Sonam Bangchuk who's still on fast.
11:00Through the media, it is my humble appeal to the students on agitation
11:04that the government is ready for talks whenever you want,
11:09at whichever hour of the day, and for as much length of time that you wish to.
11:14We are ready to discuss the issue on which the agitation has happened
11:20and all the other related issues as well, with an open mind.
11:26And the talks can be held at the residence of Shri Nadda
11:30because the talks will be led by the Health Minister of India
11:34and the Senior Leader Shri Nadda Ji.
11:35And of course, I will be accompanying him.
11:37The talks could be held at Shri Nadda Ji's residence or at office,
11:42whichever of the two you wish to,
11:45because you appreciate as much as I do
11:48that without talks, without dialogue, we cannot find a solution.
11:52And without a solution, we would not be able to lay down the further roadmap.
11:59And I also wish to share with the viewers
12:03that since last afternoon, since yesterday afternoon,
12:07in the last 24 hours, there have been four,
12:10as many as four offers made to the student representatives for a dialogue.
12:15We are still waiting for the response.
12:17We do not stand on prestige.
12:19We never stand on prestige.
12:21Please come forward.
12:28All right, in the latest coming in,
12:30CJP has now snubbed the government offer to meet at a government office.
12:36Now, in response to that statement that you just heard from Jitendra Singh,
12:39the CJP spokesperson has said that no meeting will take place at Nadda Ji's residence.
12:43It will be held either at Jantar Mantar or at a neutral venue.
12:47They also go on to say that we don't want any empty talk this time.
12:52You must either agree to some of our demands
12:54or specify a time frame within which our request will be met.
12:59Meanwhile, CJP has announced, remember,

13:29Shivani, if I have to be clear about this,
13:32bringing any minister to Jantar Mantar is not a possibility.
13:38These days, it's unsafe even for a reporter to go hold a mic and report from Jantar Mantar.
13:44It is not possible for a minister to go there.
13:47Should I then understand that this is a pushback by the CJP
13:51to go back to what they asked for earlier, which is a neutral location?
13:55And what exactly is neutral location?
13:57Is the Constitution Club a neutral location?
14:01Is there anything else which is on the cards that the CJP wants at this point?
14:09See, what has been clarified by Jitain Singh,
14:12who's the MOS PMO,
14:13that the talks can happen for however long the students want.
14:17They said that the government is ready to talk.
14:21Government never stands on prestige.
14:23Government is concerned about the students.
14:25But the place has to be either J.P. Nadar's residence or his office
14:29because he's leading the protests, he's leading the talks with the protesters
14:34because on the day one, that was on Monday,
14:37we saw how the representatives from the CJP,
14:39they met J.P. Nadar at his residence.
14:42And again, he has been offering to talk.
14:45The government has been attempting four times through the day today,
14:50as was being told by Dr. Jitain Singh that government wants to talk.
14:54But now the CJP says that we do not want to meet at J.P. Nadar's residence.
14:58We do not want to meet at a government location, but at a neutral location.
15:04So what would that neutral location be?
15:07Now, it's exactly what you are telling me,
15:10that it seems to be like a pushback.
15:12And the demand that Dharmen Pradhan should resign,
15:15that there's no scope, that's what CJP wants to convey,
15:19that the demand remains that Dharmen Pradhan must resign.
15:23But the government says that we are ready to talk,
15:26we are concerned about the students,
15:27the announcement by the Prime Minister of setting up fast track
15:32for the paper leaks,
15:34the fast track investigations for the paper leak scams that have happened.
15:37So all that is kind of an indication that the government brings to the students,
15:42that government is thinking about the students,
15:45it's ready for mediation,
15:46it's not about the prestige of the government.
15:48But yes, the government will talk either in the residence of J.P. Nadar
15:54or at an official location.
15:57It cannot happen at Jantamanta for obvious reasons.
16:01Also, Shivani, we've seen protests in the past,
16:04we've seen negotiations happen in the past,
16:06whether it was farmers' protest or anything else.
16:09The fact that all these conversations are happening on camera
16:13talks about what a breakdown it has been in back-channel conversations.
16:17The fact that CJP is making a public statement
16:20and the government is, you know,
16:22calling up agencies and giving a statement over there,
16:24that clearly talks of how fragile and how fractured this communication is.
16:28It's become all about optics on what the people perceive this as
16:32when actually in the back-channel,
16:34a route to where should we meet, etc.
16:37is perhaps not happening.
16:39Is that understanding fair?
16:45See, Sonal, the government knows how to handle these protests.
16:49We've seen the farmer protests that went on for more than one year.
16:53There were 13 rounds of talks that happened
16:55between the farmer leaders and the government.
16:56They did not happen in public.
16:58They happened at a particular place.
17:00They happened at Vigyan Bhavan.
17:02So, when it comes to negotiating or listening to the demands of the students,
17:08the government says that it's ready,
17:10but it cannot happen, obviously, in the open.
17:12It also conveys that they are concerned about the students.
17:16They should tell us that when they want to talk,
17:19we want to go on and on for however long these discussions have to.
17:24That means that channel is already open by the government,
17:27but it seems that CJP is now trying that pressure tactics,
17:32you may say,
17:32that the government has to come to their location
17:36and I don't see that's happening
17:38and there's always scope for dialogue.
17:41There can be an optics that's being played out here
17:45by both the government and the students,
17:46also the CJP, in fact,
17:48and there can also be an effort of a back-channel dialogue.
17:51So, we'll have to wait and we'll have to see
17:54what it comes like.
17:56The CJP on their part, Doshavani,
17:59since you mentioned the government opinion,
18:02has said that the last time they actually had a conversation,
18:04they blocked a long period of time,
18:06but the actual conversation in that was just about 10 minutes.
18:09And they were also answerable to the crowds
18:11who questioned on what they were doing away
18:13when everybody else was getting lati charged.
18:15What were their leaders doing away
18:16sitting in an air-conditioned room with the NETA?
18:19And I think that's where the demand is also coming from.
18:21So, we'll have to see which way it goes.
18:23Both of them have to be answerable at the end of the day.
18:26to their, you know, believers, followers as they were.
18:30But we'll leave it at that.

23:30an image of resistance.

23:36but she stood her ground
23:38before the vehicle.

23:41has become to demonstrate
23:44so much more.

36:39the Congress and the chief minister was J.B. Patnaik. An alleged question paper leak had triggered
36:47student anger and around 1,500 protesters reportedly gathered outside the state secretary. Pradhan
36:53is said to be one of them at the forefront of that agitation. Today, at the forefront of an entire
37:03uprising that is taking place. What happened then? The protest was met with, you know, police action.
37:11Same, lati charge, reports, students detained, injured both sides as well. Dharmendra Pradhan himself,
37:20you'll see an image of him where his jaw is stitched up and he's got bandage over here.
37:27We are told back then, newspaper reports back then say that he was suffering multiple fractures.
37:32He faced multiple injuries was beaten up badly. It was an episode that reportedly helped shape his
37:41identity as a young student leader, taking to streets, demanding answers over an examination system
37:48under question. Now, fast forward 29 years. The picture has reversed. He is the education minister.
37:58Paper leaks in India are still happening, but this time it's his resignation that students are asking for.
38:09The circumstances may be separated by nearly three decades, but this resurfaced story has created a
38:17striking political contrast from a young leader then to the education minister now whose resignation the
38:27youth of the country seems to be united on.
38:34Okay, let me take you back to the protests for a little while amongst various stories that are coming
38:38out. There are narratives on this side, narratives on that side. Delhi police is releasing their own videos
38:44where their, you know, policemen have been injured. The student bodies are releasing their videos where
38:49their people have been injured and brutality has been faced. It's the nature of a protest of this
38:54scale. There will be casualties. There will be, you know, people who will get injured on both sides.
38:59But amidst all of this, there is one story that really caught everybody's eye.
39:03People sitting in hundreds of kilometers away who are not at the protest are using online delivery
39:09platforms to send food, send water, cold drinks for protesters gathered at the site.
39:16Essential supplies including sanitary napkins for women have been ordered. They don't know who it's
39:22going to. There's a random location put in and when they call the person making the order, placing the
39:28order. They say, just give it to whoever you feel is hungry. Just give it to anyone there.
39:34Protest volunteers are now collecting these deliveries and distributing them at Jantar Mantar
39:38as people from different cities find a digital way to support the agitation. Take a look.
39:49So the people from all over the country are ordering food for the protesters, those who are at Jantar
39:54Mantar at Tolstoym are one barricade that we see from Blinkit to Swiggy to all the food delivery
40:00platforms. Don't know who are these people who are sending them food. It is the random people. It is
40:06the random people. Those who hardly know. Did you get food? Okay, yes. Okay, yes. So they're sending
40:12sanitary napkins. So you know who has sent this? Yes, sir. This is a known one. Where is the order?
40:20This means from Delhi. Can you tell us from which city? This is the knowledge we have made. Okay. So
40:25they're even
40:26sending sanitary napkins, the basic that could probably would be neat for the year because we see
40:31the good number of girls, boys, all are part of this protest. From biscuit, from water, from
40:36cooling, everything. And that's the stockpile of the food that is available here at Jantar Mantar's
40:43Tolstoy Market. These are the volunteers who are collecting the food. They're even asking if someone
40:47needs food, water, anything. The student protests, meanwhile, are now finding solidarity far beyond
40:53Jantar Mantar with some Indian cinema's biggest stars speaking up. But as stars rally behind the
41:00demands of fair education, there is also warning against reducing student movements to political
41:07binaries. We finally heard from stars like Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, even Diljeet Dosanj and Kamal
41:13Hassan. Let me now put out for you and leave you with these comments that have come in from all
41:18these stars.
41:28The CJP protests are no longer just making political headlines. They're now drawing reactions from the
41:34entertainment industry as well.
41:40The CJP protests have now found an echo beyond the political sphere. As the debate over education
41:46reforms intensifies, some of Indian cinema's biggest stars are lending their voices to the students,
41:53backing their demand for a fairer and more transparent education system.
41:59Salman called paper leaks a very serious issue and praised the students for coming together to seek
42:05change. Alia said she was heartbroken yet filled with hope, applauding the courage and determination shown
42:13by the youth. Meanwhile Kamal Hassan criticized systemic failures and urged the authorities to address
42:21the students' concerns. Our Madhavan and Vijay Setupati have also lent their support to the students' cause.
42:31Actor-singer Diljeet Dosanj has broken his silence on the ongoing demonstrations,
42:37sharing a strong message in support of the students. Taking to Instagram stories, Diljeet called the
42:44treatment of the protesters very wrong and urged the authorities to listen to their demands.
42:50However, Diljeet also admitted that speaking out could once again invite criticism. He said he expected
42:58to be labelled anti-national for supporting the students. Meanwhile the protests were organized
43:05to coincide with the start of the monsoon session of parliament.
43:11The demonstrators demanded nationwide education reforms and sought the resignation of Union Education
43:17Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged neat irregularities.
43:23The march later witnessed clashes between protesters and security personnel near parliament.
43:31Interestingly Diljeet is not the only celebrity backing the movement.
43:36Actress Shabana Azmi, Prakash Raj, Swara Bhaskar had visited the protest site at Jantar Mantar
43:44to express solidarity with the students. Meanwhile several other celebrities including Ritesh Deshmukh,
43:51Janelia Deshmukh, Bhumi Pidnikar, Huma Qureshi, Sunakshi Sinha, Zenith Aman, Sonu Soodh,
44:00and screenwriter Sutapa Sigdar, among others also voiced their support on social media.

44:18All right, talking about celebrities over there, a latest voice has come in, this is Kareena Kapoor.
44:22She says, and I quote her now, I have sat with this for a few days, but I can't sit
44:28with it any longer.
44:30The voices of so many young people asking to be heard are impossible to ignore, and they shouldn't be.
44:36We all know what education means to a child. It gives them confidence, it gives them hope,
44:42it gives families proof that tomorrow can be better than today.
44:47But education only works if children believe in it, and they stop believing the moment they suspect
44:54that honesty, hard work and merit don't actually count.
45:00So another voice there coming in from Bollywood, this is Kareena Kapoor.
45:06Again, what I'm seeing is a trend over here is that Bollywood celebrities are speaking,
45:13they've been pressured to speak, but not making it political, keeping it on the issue, the issue of education.
45:24Not asking for anybody's resignation or asking for conversations either.

46:07where they were also seen jostling.
46:10You know, we witnessed that between the two sides as well.
46:13Opposition MPs joined Rahul Gandhi.
46:14There were Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Akhle Shahdav.
46:17They all raised slogans demanding Dharmain Pradhan's resignation.

46:24BJP chief Nitin Nabeen accused the opposition of running away from a debate,
