00:00All right, here we go.
00:04I'm mentally preparing myself for Deshaun Watson to be the starter.
00:08And I know I'm going to get hammered on the internet for that.
00:11That's okay.
00:13Now, we know who I want.
00:15I don't know if it's going to happen.
00:18Here's Adam Schefter yesterday on the Adam Schefter podcast,
00:21which this probably is going to be common sense.
00:24Hit it.
00:25Four quarterbacks on the roster right now, Ty.
00:27And there will not be four quarterbacks when the season starts.
00:30I don't believe.
00:31Maybe they can carry all four.
00:33But right now, they've got Deshaun Watson, who's going to be there.
00:35They've got Shador Sanders.
00:37They've got Dylan Gabriel.
00:38And they have rookie quarterback Talon Green.
00:41So there's four quarterbacks.
00:42The headlines of that camp, without question,
00:45are going to be who wins the starting quarterback job.
00:47Is it going to be Deshaun Watson?
00:49Is it going to be Shador Sanders?
00:50Are they going to keep the other two quarterbacks?
00:52Could they find a trade partner for Dylan Gabriel?
00:54I hope they do, for everybody's sake there.
00:57Got nothing against Dylan Gabriel, but it's time for everybody to move on.
01:00Been a bad, bad meeting there.
01:03Here is Albert Breer on afternoon drive about that QB competition.
01:08Makes me feel, well, we'll see how you feel after this.
01:11I didn't get any indication anyone was running away with it,
01:14which, I mean, you can take that however you want.
01:16But I didn't get the idea that, like,
01:18someone had just taken the baton and sprinted with it.
01:21You know, you're going to see some different things
01:22when they get to 11-on-11.
01:24They're both learning a new offense.
01:26I think that piece of it, like, what coaches will tell you,
01:29like, a lot of times is the spring's for learning,
01:32the summer's for competition.
01:33I think the actual competitive part of it
01:35may not have even gotten off the ground yet.
01:37And I hope that that means good things for Shador Sanders.
01:41I just think I'm going to mentally prepare myself
01:44for Deshaun Watson to start the season
01:47and see where this goes in those first two weeks.
01:51You don't have faith that Shador can overcome?
01:55No, it's not that.
01:56Don't do that.
01:57I just have a feeling that with an older,
02:00I know what you're doing in that sentence,
02:02nicely done.
02:04I just feel that an older coach would probably
02:06go with the older veteran.
02:09And seeing the James Palmer report,
02:15hearing some of the things,
02:16like, there's a lot of opinionists,
02:19and I can give you, I make opinions,
02:20and I can give you every single reason in the world
02:22why I think Shador should be the starter
02:23to start the season.
02:25I think a lot of people know where I stand on that.
02:28But I can't find a lot of, like, insider insiders,
02:32guys who we, because if they just,
02:33we've gotten to the point where if they tell us news
02:35we don't want to hear, we're just going to rip them.
02:38And I'm not going to rip these guys
02:39for telling me news I don't want to hear.
02:40Like, Albert Breer, if he says,
02:41if he eventually comes in three weeks in camp
02:43and goes, hey, Deshaun Watson's going to get this job, guys,
02:46what am I going to do?
02:46Am I going to start ripping Albert Breer
02:48for telling me bad news I don't want to hear?
02:49I'm not going to shoot the messenger over there.
02:51He's an insider.
02:52He's got no skin in the game.
02:53One we're much more interested in than the other.
02:55Shador Sanders, we're more interested in him.
02:56I want him to start,
02:58but I'm just starting to mentally prepare myself
03:00that it's going to be Deshaun Watson
03:01because there's just so many things
03:03that would point to, yeah,
03:05a veteran guy is going to pick the veteran QB.
03:07If his job,
03:09I think he feels his job is always on the line.
03:11I think every head coach feels that way.
03:13And I know that they'll try to keep him
03:15as long as they can.
03:16And I don't think they're in any hurry
03:17to ever let go of a guy anymore
03:19after the whole debacle that happened
03:21with Rob Chudzinski.
03:21But damn, I'm just getting that weird gut feeling
03:25that, yeah, it's going to be Deshaun Watson
03:27to start the season.
03:27I better get used to that idea.
03:29Well, we've said all along that we thought,
03:31all right, in this case,
03:32the tie would go to the younger guy,
03:34but it almost sounds like you're now saying
03:37if it's even close,
03:39the coach is going to go with the veteran.
03:41And I've thought about us,
03:42I've thought about us kind of dancing around it here
03:45over the last week, a week or so,
03:46in between, like, we've had a lot of LeBron conversation,
03:50but I've caught us dancing around it a little bit.
03:52And it would seem that, yeah,
03:55the tie should go to the young guy
03:57that fans, more fans want to see,
04:00which, boy, I got some blowback on that yesterday
04:01I'd like to get into.
04:03The anybody but Chudor crowd came out
04:05in full force at me yesterday.
04:08I would like the tie to go to the young guy.
04:11But I think in Todd Munkin's case,
04:14you could easily explain it away
04:16and say, he was behind last year,
04:21then they let go of the previous coach,
04:23I got a new offense,
04:25the veteran has seen different offenses,
04:28he has not seen as many offenses,
04:31it might be better for him to be a backup,
04:33get ready for himself,
04:34not my opinion, Todd's opinion here,
04:36I'm guessing, guessing.
04:38It might be better for him
04:40to see the field for a second,
04:42there was a whirlwind going on
04:44to finish your year last year,
04:45see the field for a second,
04:47catch your breath,
04:47and then go out there
04:49when your number is called upon.
04:51Well, I've got a question then.
04:53All right.
04:55Take it to a place I don't want to take it.
04:57I did not think I was going to be asking today,
04:59but I feel like I have to.
05:01Did they make a mistake hiring Todd Munkin
05:04and should they have gone with
05:05Nate Schillhaus or Grant Udinski?
05:07Why?
05:08Because then we wouldn't be saying,
05:10we wouldn't be using the logic
05:11that we're using,
05:12which is, oh, long-time NFL head coach,
05:16somebody who is, you know,
05:18at that age,
05:19they're just going to go with the veteran.
05:21I thought about that.
05:21I'm glad you brought that up.
05:23I thought about that.
05:25I think we lied to ourselves
05:27during the coaching search.
05:29I think that I wanted Shador Sanders,
05:31you know, you started to hear
05:32the rumblings about Deshaun Watson
05:34and, hey, you know,
05:35he's getting healthy again.
05:37And I think I talked myself into going,
05:38well, if you've got a 30-year-old coach
05:40or a 35-year-old coach,
05:41he's got all the time in the world.
05:42Since when do these guys
05:43have any time in the world?
05:44Jonathan Gannon was one of the best-known names,
05:46up-and-coming names.
05:47He got two years with the Cardinals,
05:49a more bun franchise.
05:50He got two years, got fired.
05:52A lot of people were surprised about that.
05:53Not many Cardinals fans,
05:54but I don't know many Cardinals fans.
05:56A lot of people were surprised about that.
05:58Jonathan Gannon's a relatively young guy,
05:59is he not?
06:00I mean, young guys get fired
06:01in two years now, too.
06:04I'm only saying that
06:05because he's close to my age,
06:06Jonathan Gannon.
06:07Oh, is he in his mid-40s?
06:08He's 43.
06:10How old's young for an NFL coach now?
06:14Does it have to be in his 30s
06:15or can you be 45 and below?
06:17I think you're still early.
06:20I think you've got to be 42, 43.
06:22I'll take it.
06:22It still throws you off a little bit
06:24because Rutenberg,
06:25he sounds like he's 33 years old
06:27and he's 44?
06:28Yeah.
06:29Like, he's older than we think,
06:31but he's high energy
06:32and he sounds young,
06:34looks kind of young.
06:35He's 44 years old,
06:36if I'm not mistaken.
06:38So, that'll throw you off.
06:39The preservatives and everything,
06:41they throw everybody off now.
06:42McVay screwed everybody up.
06:43Yeah, he did.
06:44That's a great point.
06:46And by the way,
06:47McVay being the great point there,
06:48a lot of people thought
06:49he was going to screw up
06:50when he first got hired
06:51because he was the first real toss into it
06:54and then everybody wanted their young guy.
06:55But I think that that was something
06:56we said going,
06:57all right,
06:57that if we get Grant Yudinski,
06:59and Grant Yudinski might end up
07:01being a great head coach someday
07:02in the NFL.
07:03Same thing with Nate Sheilhaus.
07:04But if we get Yudinski or Sheilhaus,
07:06then they're going to give him plenty of time.
07:08We're going to go with the young guy.
07:10Everything's going to be great.
07:10We're going to go with Shador.
07:11I don't got to worry about Deshaun anymore
07:13and nasty phone calls
07:14and all that other stuff.
07:15And I think that was just me being emotional
07:17and talking ourselves into it.
07:18And you were complicit in it as well.
07:20Let's be honest here.
07:21I think a lot of us were kind of hoping that.
07:23Now you're with a 60-year-old guy
07:25where he certainly has no time to wait around,
07:28where people are already doing
07:29the David Culley comparison,
07:30which just destroys my guts
07:33to try to make that comparison
07:35because I thought that was a major mistake
07:36down there too.
07:37I don't want to do that to Todd Munkin,
07:39but man, it's just like,
07:40you're going to play the best guy.
07:42And I think maybe Shador,
07:44at this juncture,
07:46I would think he probably has the higher ceiling
07:49because I don't think Deshaun Watson
07:50is anywhere near what he used to be.
07:51I think that that version is gone
07:53and kicking the tires
07:54and thinking that he can touch that version is gone.
07:56Yeah, pre-injuries,
07:57I would say,
07:57of course,
07:58Deshaun Watson has a higher ceiling.
08:00And honestly, pre-injury,
08:02you wouldn't take Shador,
08:03you weren't taking Dylan Gabriel then.
08:04Now, the funny thing is,
08:06there are some Deshaun Watson people
08:08and the messaging they are putting out
08:10is that this is the best the shoulder has been
08:14in a long time
08:15and his athleticism is right back to where it was.
08:17Kind of believe it when I see it.
08:19But if that were the case,
08:21maybe that would get me to change my mind on ceiling.
08:23The thing that gave me heart towards it was
08:27when you're in t-shirts and shorts
08:29and you're falling back to the pack
08:30of the other quarterbacks of Shador and Dylan Gabriel,
08:33I don't think that spells a good future for you.
08:35But also,
08:36I should be willing to look at it as a Browns fan
08:38and say,
08:38hey man,
08:39the best man win
08:39and I'm going to go ahead
08:40and I'm going to,
08:41I can't say I trust Todd Munkin
08:42because I've only got,
08:43I've only known him a little,
08:45little, little, little bit.
08:46I got to try to throw my trust into Todd Munkin
08:48and hope he makes the best decision possible.
08:50And usually the best decision possible
08:52for a lot of guys,
08:53if the rookie isn't a first round guy
08:55that is the odds on favorite to take the job,
08:58they're usually going to go with the veteran,
09:00are they not?
09:01So are you not feeling the same?
09:02Are you actually more open-minded than I am?
09:04Listen,
09:05I'm trying to be open-minded.
09:06Because I'm trying to protect my feelings on this
09:08and going,
09:08hey,
09:08you know what?
09:09I think Deshaun Watts is probably going to start
09:11and I'm just going to have to accept this.
09:12I'm not going to root against him.
09:14I'm not going to do it,
09:14but I think I'm going to have to accept this.
09:16Are you feeling the same way?
09:17Yeah.
09:18Getting a lot of reaction about this.
09:20We'll go around the AFC North
09:21coming up at 8 o'clock.
09:22Also,
09:23I try not to be a jerk,
09:26but I think I accidentally pulled a jerk move.
09:29I want to run it by you.
09:30Unless you're setting a trap for me.
09:32Because you kind of chuckled at it,
09:34so I wonder if you're setting a trap for me.
09:35We had a great time
09:37at the John Fanta Broadcast Boot Camp yesterday.
09:41Tone and I did.
09:42We were speaking to the kids,
09:43but I...
09:43What an amazing summer camp.
09:45Feel bad about something.
09:46By the way,
09:48they've had so far
09:49Scott Van Pelt.
09:50Mm-hmm.
09:51They're getting Tariqo today.
09:53They're getting Mike Tariqo.
09:54Yep.
09:55Are they getting
09:57Tom Hamilton,
09:59I thought,
10:00and John Tellich?
10:02I think John is.
10:03Okay.
10:04I think maybe Tom.
10:05It is incredible.
10:06I'm not sure.
10:07I couldn't hear John.
10:09I'm deaf.
10:10I couldn't...
10:10I could barely hear John going down the steps.
10:12John Fanta,
10:12because you've got to remember,
10:13it's kids and it's camp,
10:14so it's not just about broadcasting,
10:17which is the theme.
10:18I didn't realize he was going to have
10:19such a heavy hand with the kids.
10:20I loved it.
10:20Yes.
10:21I loved it.
10:21He was disciplined.
10:22Wait, so he's like running the camp?
10:24Yeah.
10:25Yes.
10:25Yeah.
10:25And then when he pulled out the Bible
10:27and started going over passages...
10:29He's like Tony Perkis?
10:32Why?
10:33Why?
10:34I didn't know.
10:35When did that come to your head?
10:35I didn't know.
10:36When did that come into your mind?
10:37He did not do that.
10:38The evangelical John Fanta.
10:40He did not do that.
10:42But he's like teaching life lessons.
10:44John Fanta.
10:45Yeah.
10:45Is he starting a buffet
10:46in the Akron-Canton area?
10:48You know what?
10:48Can't really do that anymore.
10:49No.
10:50Can't really talk about that.
10:51Yeah.
10:52Not the buffet.
10:53I think we can make fun of the car phone
10:56to talk to his wife,
10:57but the buffet...
11:01I just asked the questions, Ken.
11:03Yeah.
11:04And I think they're good questions
11:06that need to be answered.
11:07About last night,
11:08coming up at 745.
11:10I got...
11:10My buddy Brad Ward
11:12from Brown's film Breakdown
11:13just texted me.
11:14And sometimes I have my phone on
11:16Do Not Disturb.
11:16I don't see him.
11:17He's great.
11:17And he wrote,
11:19Ken, if it's close,
11:19it should absolutely go to the younger player
11:21who has room to improve.
11:22There's nothing to be learned
11:23from foreplaying.
11:24See, this is going to be
11:25a very uncomfortable thing to say
11:27because I think people
11:27are going to go nuts.
11:28I am not saying this for effect.
11:30You know where I stand on this.
11:31It would.
11:32But this is the issue.
11:34This is my issue with it
11:35because I think this is how they think.
11:38If you're the general manager
11:39of the Cleveland Browns,
11:40yeah, I want Shador to play.
11:43I want him to play.
11:44I want to see everything I possibly can
11:47before we go off
11:48into all the different machinations
11:51of all the different QBs,
11:52even though they already are
11:53because you always have to do your job.
11:56And in Brad's case,
11:57and in our case,
11:58I think that he would be right.
12:00But if you're going to let the head coach
12:03make this decision,
12:04and if it's not going to be
12:05a thought partner thing
12:06and you go, Todd,
12:07you're the offensive guy.
12:08It's your team.
12:10Damn it.
12:10You make the decision.
12:11People are going to give their opinions.
12:13Maybe they'll try to lean on you
12:14a little bit.
12:15It's only natural.
12:16It's a big team.
12:17Politics play into it
12:18as best they can.
12:19You go ahead and make the decision.
12:20I want to ask you this question real quick.
12:22I know I wanted you to explain something,
12:23but I already beat it away
12:25and now I got to talk about it here.
12:27Do you think that the majority
12:29of Browns fans want Todd Monken
12:30to make this choice?
12:32The head coach of the team
12:33make this choice.
12:34Okay.
12:34Yes.
12:35Then if he's the one
12:36who makes the choice,
12:37then he's got to think about
12:38what's best to win games.
12:40He's got to go out there
12:41and win games.
12:41That's his job.
12:42That's what he gets paid to do
12:43is to win.
12:44Win.
12:45Underline win.
12:45Not develop.
12:46Win.
12:47And if he does that,
12:48then it's going to be
12:49who he trusts to run that offense.
12:50I would be elated
12:53if Shador Sanders
12:54ends up winning that job
12:55because,
12:55and if it were Todd Monken's decision
12:57because I'm going,
12:57all right,
12:58he's got a better grasp
12:59on the offense
13:00than the other guy.
13:01That means that
13:02the offense changed.
13:03He did a lot.
13:04In a short amount of time,
13:06all the distractions
13:07that everybody said he had,
13:09Rex Ryan,
13:10even Albert Breer.
13:11I had to disagree with Albert Breer
13:13and I'll talk about that later on.
13:14All the distractions
13:15that he dealt with
13:16because there's cameras around him.
13:18He was able to take over the job.
13:19I'd love it.
13:20But if Todd Monken
13:21makes the decision,
13:22you're usually going to go to the vet.
13:24And this is where you,
13:28they're going to go after me on this.
13:31This is where
13:31what round you're taking in matters.
13:34Okay?
13:37It's only natural
13:38unless that guy goes out there
13:40and he's gangbusters
13:41from the beginning.
13:43You're going to go,
13:44yeah,
13:44we're going to know pretty soon.
13:45So if he goes out there
13:46and he only gets four games,
13:47they don't care.
13:49The fans will.
13:51But
13:52you just give less time
13:54to guys that are taken later.
13:56Oh, yeah.
13:56That's true.
13:57I mean,
13:58that's typically how it's worked.
13:59And he could look at it and go,
14:00yeah,
14:00I know we want to see everything,
14:01but I'm not nearly,
14:02he could go,
14:03I'm seeing everything
14:04that you guys aren't seeing.
14:06We're in meetings.
14:07He may or may not be picking up.
14:09Be like,
14:09this is all hearsay right now,
14:11right?
14:11Yeah.
14:13But you want
14:14to give Shador Sanders that job.
14:15And I think that Todd Monken
14:17would want Shador Sanders
14:18to take that job.
14:19But he's got to make the decision
14:20that's best for everybody else.
14:21And so if he makes that decision
14:22and it's Deshaun Watson,
14:24then it's going to go,
14:25well,
14:25does he have a grip
14:26of Todd's offense?
14:28Does he have a grip
14:29of all the new people
14:30that are there?
14:30Because you've got two
14:31exciting wide receivers in there,
14:33but they're young.
14:35They're rookies.
14:36And I think he would go,
14:38well,
14:38we're going to ride
14:39the Deshaun Watson train
14:40until the wheels fall off.
14:41And then we'll go to
14:42we'll go to Shador Sanders.
14:44And by the wheels falling off,
14:45that means like maybe
14:45out of the playoffs.
14:47Like realistically
14:48out of the playoff run.
14:50And in that case,
14:51you might get six games,
14:53five games,
14:54four games,
14:54depending on how good things start.
14:56And then if the wheels come off
14:57and then if you only get
14:58a handful of games,
14:59like, yeah,
15:00there's gonna be a lot of fans
15:00going,
15:01we didn't get a sample size.
15:02And they're going to go,
15:03too bad.
15:04We're moving on.
15:04The other part of that is
15:06much like I relate it to
15:08in the NBA come March,
15:11when you see guys averaging
15:1325 points a game out of nowhere,
15:15like Josh Giddey did that
15:16a couple of years ago.
15:17He had like Magic Johnson stats.
15:19And it's like,
15:20oh yeah,
15:20March in the NBA.
15:21A lot of teams are done.
15:23That's kind of what,
15:24that's kind of the NFL today.
15:26When you get to the last
15:27six games of the year,
15:28there are a lot of guys
15:30that start getting in games.
15:31And then you're like,
15:32is this a mirage
15:33or is this a real thing?
15:34And now you're adding games
15:35and now you have to actually
15:35load manage in some of this.
15:37And the games don't count
15:39as much as they do
15:40as when teams are still
15:42eligible to make the playoffs.
15:43And I would love to say that,
15:45oh, you guys wanted
15:46these more games.
15:46I don't think any fans
15:47really want any more games.
15:48I don't hear any general fans
15:49clamoring for more
15:50regular season football games.
15:52I asked you the question
15:54before we went to break
15:55about why you think,
15:57like, as far as wanting
15:58Shador to win the job.
15:59Yeah.
15:59I think a lot of us
16:00want Shador to win the job.
16:01Even the troll of trolls
16:03right now, Anthony,
16:04you want Shador
16:05to win the job, don't you?
16:06Yeah.
16:07Yes.
16:07Now, what's your reasoning for it?
16:08I think you want to find out
16:09if he's actually got the goods.
16:10Well, yeah, look,
16:11and this is all just a,
16:12not just a big political campaign
16:14on the internet.
16:15I'm being 100% genuine
16:16when I say this.
16:18What I saw from him last year,
16:20like, yeah,
16:21the numbers were all-time bad.
16:23And I did not just blame him.
16:25He had a terrible situation
16:27around him.
16:28A bunch of guys
16:30that play late in the season
16:31have terrible situations.
16:33He clearly did,
16:34and he didn't have
16:34the right run-up
16:35to being able to start.
16:36It was so crazy.
16:37We've talked about that
16:38to death about
16:39the four-quarterback setup.
16:41But he did show
16:42just enough
16:44for me to still
16:45take him seriously
16:46as somebody who can,
16:48Yeah, why wouldn't you?
16:48who, if he continues
16:50to get better,
16:51if he can get better,
16:51get better,
16:52get better,
16:52get better,
16:53get better,
16:54then we could be
16:55talking about
16:56a really awesome story.
16:57You know,
16:57Brock Purdy was taken
16:58as the last pick
16:59in the draft,
17:00and he's still
17:01the starting quarterback
17:01in the NFL
17:02on a team that's
17:03supposed to contend
17:03every year.
17:04A lot of us are.
17:05So I'm not writing
17:05Shador Sanders off
17:07because he was taken
17:07in the fifth round.
17:08I saw Justin up the fact,
17:10I'll tell you.
17:10It's refreshing to hear this
17:11and not the stuff
17:12you were spotting off
17:13yesterday at times.
17:14I'll tell you what
17:15I have said about him
17:17that I really like
17:18is, you know,
17:19for the lack,
17:20like, he's not built
17:21of muscle.
17:22He doesn't have
17:23those freakish traits
17:24that guys that get
17:26taken in the first round,
17:27the darts that get
17:28thrown sometimes,
17:30he did absorb
17:31a ton of big hits,
17:33and he just kept
17:33getting back up.
17:35That's a start.
17:36Like, that's something
17:37that there are guys
17:38that take hits,
17:39and that's it.
17:39They're just done.
17:40They don't know
17:41how to fall.
17:41They don't know
17:42how to take hits.
17:43Guys that don't have
17:45that just innate awareness.
17:47So that impressed me
17:48with him.
17:49One of the things
17:49he was willing to do
17:50is, like,
17:51he would throw
17:51a bad pick
17:52or he would get,
17:53I mean,
17:53he would get
17:54absolutely car crashed
17:56back there
17:57and a couple times
17:58running himself
17:59into sacks,
18:00and I think part of that
18:01was having different
18:02offensive linemen in there
18:03and having to do
18:03a lot of different things.
18:04And to be able
18:05to get back out there
18:06and just throw the ball
18:06down the field
18:07the way he did,
18:07I mean,
18:08that said something.
18:09He played kind of fearless?
18:10The Baltimore game,
18:11so many people make
18:12a big deal about it
18:13to a point where
18:15they've overblown it.
18:15No, the Baltimore game,
18:16you're going out there,
18:17he clearly had no idea
18:18what the hell was going on.
18:19Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
18:21I don't evaluate
18:22that game at all.
18:23to the Gage Larvardan throne,
18:24it's like,
18:25hey man,
18:25he still kept taking his shots.
18:26Like, I have to respect that
18:28and I think it is something
18:29to kind of try to build off
18:31of in the future.
18:32But the only thing
18:33I'm pointing out is
18:33I think that
18:34the general managers
18:36and the people
18:36who think like general managers,
18:38which are most Browns fans,
18:39they're going to think
18:40differently than Todd Munkin.
18:41And if Todd Munkin's
18:43the one who's wanting
18:43to make the decision,
18:44like, we're not,
18:45okay, then we're not
18:45going to have our cake
18:46and eat it too.
18:46We all want Todd Munkin
18:48to make the decision,
18:49but then we all want
18:50to be able to see
18:51Shador Sanders to prove
18:52whether or not we're right
18:53and we think that he's okay
18:55or we think that he's terrible
18:57and prove that we're right
18:58in that way.
18:58I know a lot of people
18:59want to see him,
19:00but I don't know
19:00if you're going to get it that way.
19:02If you're putting the head coach
19:03in charge of making the decision
19:05to start who's starting,
19:06then he's going to make
19:07the decision to start week one.
19:10Who's going to give me
19:11the best chance to win week one
19:12and week two and week three?
19:14Not just, well,
19:14who can we get a look at?
19:15And I think that that's the truth
19:17with Grant Yudinski
19:18or Nate Shieldhouse
19:19or Todd Munkin for that matter.
19:21And that was something
19:22I probably told myself
19:23to feel better about things
19:24after they fired Kevin Stavansky.
19:262-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
19:29Tom in Mentor,
19:30you're first up on the fan.
19:31Hello, Tom.
19:32Uncle Kenny,
19:33I got to tell you,
19:34I've been a fan of yours
19:36for years,
19:37back to the late night
19:38and overnight shows,
19:39the whole nine yards.
19:40But I'll tell you, boss,
19:42you're forcing me
19:43to go ahead and like Lima
19:44just a little bit more
19:45and more every day.
19:46Why?
19:47I'm telling you,
19:47I can't understand.
19:49You have been such
19:50a Deshaun Watson homer
19:52since day one.
19:54Since day one.
19:56A Watson homer?
19:58A Watson homer?
20:00Kenny,
20:01please don't make me go back.
20:02Please don't make me go back.
20:03You were the first one.
20:05Oh, my God.
20:06You should see him
20:07out there on the practice squad.
20:09Shirt off.
20:10He looks like a Greek god
20:11when he throws that ball
20:12and has a certain zip to it.
20:14That was Tone.
20:15That wasn't me.
20:16That was Anthony.
20:16No.
20:18Anthony said that.
20:19No, Uncle Kenny,
20:21I listen to you every day.
20:22Stop.
20:23I'm telling you,
20:24you've been a homer for him
20:25the entire single time.
20:26Deshaun Watson,
20:28not Shador?
20:29Yeah.
20:29The guy that came from Texas,
20:31the guy we sold the farm to,
20:33a quarter of a billion dollars.
20:35Shador Sanders is from Texas,
20:36the state of Texas.
20:38I understand that, sir,
20:40but Deshaun Watson
20:41was the quarterback of Texas
20:42when we gave away the farm.
20:43Oh, Houston.
20:44Yeah.
20:44That guy.
20:45Yeah.
20:45Wait a minute.
20:46I don't understand.
20:48How have I not made it
20:49abundantly clear
20:49that I want Shador Sanders
20:50to start the season
20:51for the Browns?
20:52How has that not been
20:53abundantly clear?
20:55You didn't go down this road,
20:56I think,
20:57until Lima went ahead
20:58and jumped on board.
20:59And Lima was the one
21:00that said he went ahead
21:01and wanted him to be the starter.
21:03Because you find a way
21:04to make excuses
21:05for Deshaun Watson
21:07every single time.
21:08Oh, he's going to do
21:09this and that.
21:10Well, we do have
21:10young wide receivers.
21:12He's going to do
21:13this and that.
21:14Well, you know,
21:14we have to make sure
21:15it's okay.
21:15And if Tom Munkin
21:16is going to make
21:17that decision,
21:18that's the direction
21:18we've got to go.
21:19All I want to hear you say
21:21is pick a quarterback
21:23and go with him.
21:24And if you're right,
21:25you're right.
21:26If you're wrong,
21:26you're wrong.
21:27Tom, if you've listened
21:27to me for so long,
21:28I've got to tell you,
21:29this is the craziest thing
21:29you've ever called in
21:30and said to me
21:30because I think
21:31I've been pretty adamant
21:32to the point
21:33where they're making memes
21:34of me being a cult leader
21:35about Shador Sanders
21:37that I want Shador Sanders
21:38to start the season.
21:39Even though I haven't said
21:40that he's the answer
21:41like one kid accused me
21:42of yesterday
21:42at the boot camp,
21:43I never have called him
21:44to save you or the answer.
21:45Even when I got Ken
21:46to concede early on
21:49that Deshaun Watson
21:51at the time
21:52was considered
21:53a massive upgrade
21:54over Baker Mayfield,
21:55Ken still didn't want him.
21:57No.
21:58I mean,
21:59we got in those arguments.
22:01Yeah,
22:02I didn't want him.
22:03I didn't want to make
22:04the trade for him.
22:05I got hammered for that.
22:07Champion's pose.
22:09We'll see.
22:10You know,
22:10we'll see if we can start it
22:11over a fourth time with him,
22:12I guess.
22:14I've never wanted,
22:15I never wanted to be
22:16in the Deshaun Watson business
22:17from the get-go,
22:17from Clemson.
22:18We had arguments
22:19about that in the draft.
22:21So no,
22:22Tom,
22:22that no,
22:23that's,
22:25there's been a lot
22:26of confusion,
22:26I think,
22:27over time
22:28about what you and I
22:29have said to each other,
22:30but this has been steadfast.
22:31I mean,
22:31Owen's looking at,
22:32unless you're,
22:32I disagree with you
22:33on one thing.
22:34What?
22:34You ended that
22:35with thanking Tom
22:36for that call.
22:37No,
22:37Tom,
22:37no,
22:38thank you.
22:38Don't ever do that again.
22:40Isn't it amazing?
22:41Just trying to be polite.
22:41If you were doing shtick,
22:42Tom,
22:43it was bad.
22:44Don't do it.
22:45It wasn't good.
22:45Isn't it amazing
22:46how this works though?
22:48Like,
22:48we debated Deshaun Watson
22:50coming out of college
22:51and then there was,
22:52for four years,
22:53I was looking pretty damn good.
22:55Yeah,
22:55you were.
22:55And then,
22:57I could never have looked worse.
22:59Same thing with Carson Wentz.
23:00Unfortunately,
23:00those four years
23:01did not happen in Cleveland.
23:02Right.
23:02Did not happen in Cleveland.
23:03Same thing with Carson Wentz.
23:04You guys were in here
23:04playing fly,
23:05Eagles fly.
23:06I was hiding under the table.
23:08It was so bad.
23:09MVP candidate.
23:11Champions pose
23:11the hell out of that one.
23:12Then they won the Super Bowl.
23:14With somebody else.
23:15With somebody else.
23:17This is odd.
23:18He got a ring.
23:18What a career.
23:19He did get a ring.
23:19What a career.
23:20He's still bouncing around,
23:21isn't he?
23:21I don't know if he got picked up
23:22yet this year,
23:23but he'll get picked up
23:24by somebody.
23:24We'll see a picture of him
23:26wearing seven different teams
23:28with warm-ups
23:29trying to get on.
23:30I think at this point
23:31he's a better hunter
23:31than a quarterback.
23:32Now he's become
23:33like a good backup quarterback
23:34that you'd want.
23:35It's crazy.
23:36You know what?
23:38Don't count him out
23:39in 2027.
