A court heard a driver went through a red light before colliding with a police vehicle, which caught fire after the impact. She received a suspended prison sentence and a twelve-month driving ban.

00:00A moment of inattention at a junction ended with a dangerous driving conviction.
00:05Liverpool Crown Court heard Stacey Wright from Rock Ferry was driving a Mercedes-Benz A-Class in Birkenhead around 11
00:12.15 at night on the 12th of November
00:14when she entered a junction after the traffic lights had been red for up to eight seconds.
00:19At the same time, a marked police car travelling through a green light with its emergency lights activated was crossing
00:26the junction on Watson Street.
00:28CCTV footage played in court showed Wright turning directly into the path of the police vehicle before the two cars
00:34collided.
00:35The impact caused an immediate fire beneath the bonnet of the police car which was later written off.
00:41Prosecutor Nathan Cooper told the court the footage clearly demonstrated what had happened.
00:45The officer driving the vehicle, Constable Thompson, suffered cuts to his face, bruising, tinnitus and rib injuries.
00:51In a victim personal statement read to the court, he described the fire as terrifying
00:56until he continued to relive the incident, adding the crash had affected both his recovery and his family life.
01:02The court also heard the collision resulted in the loss of a police vehicle valued at around £15,000 with
01:07additional salvage costs.
01:09Wright admitted dangerous driving.
01:11Her defence told the court she was a hard-working single mother, genuinely remorseful
01:16and that the collision resulted from what was described as a moment of inattention.
01:20Wright was given an eight-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months, disqualified from driving for 12 months
01:25in order to pay £272.
