02:59I think Fulham is one of the oldest English football clubs and like I said with a great supporter and

03:21Can you tell us a little bit please about your style of play as a coach? What can we expect
03:26from your Fulham team?
03:28I want a team with a clear identity. I want to see a team that plays with courage and with
03:35personality. We want to be a really offensive team, really brave with the ball and aggressive when we lose it
03:44and ready to attack.
03:45I think we need to show that passion, that ambition every game and give everything that we have.
03:54You began your coaching career with Real Madrid's youth sides. How do you think those experiences have helped to shape
04:00you as a coach?
04:00It helped me a lot. Working with young players, teach you coach every detail, teach you to be patient and
04:12I believe developing players is one of the most important parts of my job.
04:17Speaking of developing players, how much are you looking forward to meeting all the boys on Wednesday?
04:21Yes, I'm ready. I can't wait to meet them and start working with them. I'm really excited.
04:29Going back to your own playing days, you won practically everything there was to win as a footballer and in
04:35doing so you worked under some very successful managers.
04:38Of course, now you're a manager, you're your own man, you have your own ideas, but have you taken different
04:43things from those various guys?
04:44Yes, I think every coach did you something. Of course, I was very lucky because I had coaches like Mourinho,
04:52Ancelotti, Didan, Benitez, Pellegrini, Del Bosque, Luis Aragonés.
04:57So, some of the best coaches in Europe, in the world and obviously they were very different and they are
05:08not one way to lead, but you need to be a leader.
05:12And obviously, as you said, I think you have to build your own identity and your own ideas.
05:19Obviously, you come to us from Real Madrid where you had Alvin Guilherme, the biggest job in world football.
05:25Firstly, how much did you learn from your time in charge there and how can you apply that to your
05:30role here at Fulham?
05:31Well, at Real Madrid, what I learned most, I think, was the same that I learned when I was a
05:37player.
05:37Winning is about the standard that you set every day. It's about mentality, it's about self-demanding, it's about hard
05:51work, so discipline.
05:54And I think the right mentality gives to you the best chance of winning.
06:02Funny, you mentioned mentality and I was going to ask you about your Instagram bio.
06:06Because it says, no retreat, no surrender, that is Spartan law.
06:09So, presumably, that's a philosophy you want to see in your team here, one where the players leave everything out
06:14on the pitch.
06:14Yes, always, every game. I know results are very important in life, in football, especially for coaches.
06:22But I think the attitude is the most important thing. How you face every situation and what happened to you.
06:33And no matter what the circumstances are, I think you have to keep fighting until the end.
06:39So, that mentality is what my team has to show in every game.
06:43You experienced a lot of matches in the Premier League as a player.
06:46So, how much are you looking forward to translating that to doing the same again as a head coach?
06:51Yes, I'm so happy to be here in England in the Premier League. I think it's the best league in
06:56the world.
06:56So, I really enjoyed it when I was a player and now I'm really excited to do this new challenge
07:02as a coach.
07:03I think it was two of those matches were at Craven Cottage for Liverpool. What are your memories of playing
07:09here?
07:09Yes, always. It was a difficult place to come. Because I remember to play against Bobby Zamora or Danny Murphy
07:18or Clint Denzi.
07:20What a really good team. And obviously, you can feel the support that they are really close to the pitch
07:28and they create an amazing atmosphere.
07:31So, now I want to feel this special moment as a Fulham head coach.
07:36So, we're back here for our first Premier League match of the season against Chelsea. A fierce rival of ours,
07:41a team that's also based in Fulham.
07:42That's just a wonderful way to start the season.
07:44Yes, I think there is no better way to start with a Derby home game against Chelsea. That is a
07:53really good team. It's going to be a tough game.
07:58But we need to prepare well and we want to compete. We need to put focus on ourselves. And obviously,
08:05we want to win.
08:06And of course, Chelsea have got a new manager as well. Xabi Alonso, a man you know very, very well.
08:12Does that make that first game even more special?
08:14Yes, of course. Xabi is a very good friend of mine. I think this will never change. So, it's going
08:22to be really, really special.
08:24I always wish the best in his career because he's my friend and I think that is who I am.
08:31But when the game arrives, I think we want the same thing.
08:36That is win for our clubs and for 90 minutes, we are rivals. Before and after the match, we are
08:44just friends.
08:45And just finally, Alvaro, what would success look like for you at Fulham?
08:49Well, like I said, I want to build something, something special, a nice project that our supporters can be proud
08:57of.
08:57I want the Fulham supporters to enjoy watching the team and if they are proud of me, I think I
