00:00Coach, let me ask you, man, right out of the gate, can you believe you've been here 18 years going
00:05back to when you were first an interim coach and you got the job in season during the 08 season?
00:11No, it's been a blessing.
00:13I mean, my wife and I were talking about that.
00:16We just celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary this past week.
00:20And so, you know, we were just talking about how time flies, especially when you're doing time with people that
00:28you love.
00:28And, you know, we've raised our family here in Clemson.
00:32And it's actually my 24th season because I was the receiver coach my first six years.
00:37And, you know, so just it's been a blessing.
00:41It has gone so fast.
00:42Seems like yesterday.
00:43And honestly, when we came up here to take this job in February of 03, you know, I thought I'd
00:52be here a year or two.
00:53And, you know, here we are going into our 24th season and 18th full season as the head coach.
00:59So it's been a blessing and just a great journey.
01:03It's an amazing place, a bunch of great people.
01:05And time has really flown here because we've had a lot of fun and we love the people that we've
01:11been with and we love the place.
01:13How have you changed in those 24 years, 18 years as head coach?
01:18How has Dabo Sweeney changed?
01:20Oh, just wiser.
01:21You know, like all of us, we've raised three sons.
01:25You know, our youngest son was born here.
01:27So, you know, you learn a lot as a parent.
01:30And I like to look at my job as a coach as a parent.
01:34You know, I always tell people I've got a Ph.D. in 18 to 23-year-olds because I've been
01:38one.
01:39I've raised three of them in my own house.
01:42And, you know, they're 27, 26, and 22 now.
01:46And then for 30 years, I've been doing life with 18 to 23-year-olds.
01:50So you learn a lot.
01:52You certainly grow wiser as you experience things.
01:56I mean, there's no greater teacher than experience.
01:59And so just, you know, grown in so many ways.
02:04Again, grown as a husband, 32 years of marriage.
02:08That'll grow you and teach you a few things as well.
02:11And then obviously just, you know, through competition in this game.
02:14You know, this game changes you and grows you and strengthens you and teaches you, you know, that, hey, you
02:21don't always win.
02:23And you celebrate those times when you do, whether you win by one point or 50 points.
02:28And, you know, when you have a bad day, a bad season, a bad game, whatever, you get back up
02:33and you go back at it.
02:34So, you know, learn so many things.
02:37But certainly just a lot wiser at 56.
02:42I came here when I was 33.
02:44And so I'm 56 now and certainly 18 years as a head coach and playing the game and being an
02:50assistant.
02:51And just so many great people that I've been able to interact with throughout my life.
02:57All of that has really shaped me to this day.
