00:00Here's my question.
00:03Because a lot of people believe adding a number two wide receiver with Terry,
00:07or even a 1A if you want to go so far, is the most important thing for this team.
00:11And that is why I think a lot of people have landed on Brandon Ayuk, right?
00:15They need Ayuk because they got to add a receiver.
00:18Do you think Washington has done enough to address their biggest need this offseason?
00:24I think, as you stated, when they signed Rasul,
00:31you felt that they had a bigger need of making that room stronger than the receiver room.
00:35Correct.
00:35So I don't believe that the receiver room was the weakest, just like you.
00:40And I believe, like when you asked me two weeks ago, you said,
00:44what's the most important thing that's going to help Jaden out this week, this year?
00:49What was my answer?
00:51Defense.
00:52Because everyone assumes that a quarterback only gives help when the receiver is there.
00:58You know where to help out that quarterback better than the receivers?
01:01A strong-ass running game.
01:03You know where to help out the quarterback?
01:05Tight ends that can both block and catch.
01:08The receiving stuff comes later.
01:11The rules help out the receiving core.
01:14If you got anybody that's about themselves, the rules help them out.
01:17Then that defense, if the defense can alleviate teams from scoring 25 or more
01:23and get the ball back for the offense, that makes the offense better.
01:27I look at it as a way when coaches sit in the locker room talking to you about what needs
01:32to happen.
01:33It's not always about the quarterback getting the ball to the receivers down the field consistently.
01:37Sometimes you want to be able to run the ball so you can run the clock out and don't give
01:42their offense a chance
01:43to make their offense one-dimensional to help your defense out.
01:46That happened to us last year.
01:49So I believe Terry is going to do what Terry does.
01:53I have faith in somebody on that receiving core going to be good enough to do just what they need
01:58to do.
01:59But I keep leaning to Cheek.
02:01I keep thinking about the running game.
02:03And Rashard White out the backfield is as good as any in the league right now.
02:07You go back to 24 with this team where they had great success.
02:10McLaurin was the only receiver to go over 1,000 yards.
02:13Ertz was then at 650.
02:15OZ was at 500.
02:17What Eckler did.
02:17Noah Brown was at 450.
02:19Eckler total from scrimmage was about 750 yards.
02:23And remember, Austin missed a bunch of time that year.
02:26Mixed a bunch of time but was very, very effective in a time when he was in there.
02:31Totally, dude.
02:32I think White could help a lot.
02:33I also think Chig, for sure.
02:37I think you're going to see more multiple tight end sets.
02:40And I think you're going to see – I think Zach Ertz in a lot of ways,
02:43especially because he and Kingsbury were super tight,
02:46I think Zach Ertz kind of dominated.
02:49I mean, we can just look at the targets among tight ends since Jaden's been here.
02:54Ertz two years ago in 24 had 91 targets.
02:57Your next highest tight end target was John Bates with 13 and Sennett with 5.
03:03Like, I believe there will be more – like, so let's call it 100 targets for tight ends
03:11if the offense is running right.
03:13Okay.
03:14One, I think that might go up because you're going to have more tight ends on the field.
03:17I think there's going to be more verticality in the round.
03:20But let's just use 100 for the round number.
03:22Like, I won't be shocked if we see far more equity in the disbursement of those targets
03:33unless Chig really separates.
03:35And then it's like, all right, this is a dude we have to get the ball to.
03:39Have to get the ball to.
03:40Think about what David Blau said at his opening presser,
03:43that he wants to get 10 targets a game to Terry McLaurin.
03:47I know you said that, but I don't know if that could happen.
03:49Sure, but I think there is a – there will be a concerted effort
03:53to get the ball in Terry's hands earlier, right?
03:55Like, if you're going to make that effort,
03:59do you really want to bring in another veteran receiver
04:02that might complain if they don't get the ball?
04:04No, you still want to because you know what?
04:06By saying that –
04:06Trying to get better.
04:07You know what the rest of the league does now?
04:09They start building their defense to go for Terry
04:11because they heard him say that.
04:13And you know what happens?
04:15And whoever's the two, whether it's the tight end,
04:17another receiver, whatever, they get more targets
04:19because they're trying to take Terry out the game.
04:21Totally.
04:21Which all of a sudden now, when these other people start getting
04:23a little bit more playing time, getting a little bit more action,
04:27then they have to go back to covering the whole team.
04:30Terry one-on-one, we know what he does to people.
04:33Okonkwo's athleticism and potential after the catch
04:37hasn't been here for a while.
04:39Yeah.
04:39And that's Jordan Reed-esque.
04:41Yeah.
04:42Yeah.
04:42I think – who said it?
04:46One of the players said it, that when he saw Chig out there wearing 85,
04:52he was like –
04:52He thought it was receiving.
04:53He thought it was Vernon.
04:54He thought it was Vernon Davis.
04:55Yeah.
04:56Because it's a guy with that size and that type of athleticism.
05:01I mean, the quarterback play and the offenses in Tennessee
05:03have all been subpar.
05:05Last three seasons, he's roughly gone for 50 catches and 500 yards.
05:10I think there are going to be people that are like,
05:12oh, he's going to go for 1,000 yards.
05:13I don't think so.
05:14But if he's averaged 50 and 500 on awful teams,
05:18you're telling me that can't get to 65 and 700?
05:21Mm-hmm.
05:22And that's what most teams' number two receiver does.
05:25Yeah.
05:26So, like, I think you're completely right that the folks being locked in
05:30on the receiver position aren't taking in the totality of the offense.
05:33Yeah.
05:34I mean, it's just we see other teams, we hear people talking,
05:39and we jump on whatever the narrative is instead of looking at how good
05:43some of the well-constructed teams are.
05:47We have seen Kansas City have speed galore at receiver position.
05:52And for how many years was –
05:55Kelsey.
05:55Kelsey leading the team.
05:57And they were going to the Super Bowls, right?
06:00So, you got to understand, every team is not going to be set up the same way.
06:06Let's hit these phones.
06:07800-636-1067.
06:10Do you think Washington has done a good job –
06:12yo, it's July 9th.
06:13By and large, this is the roster you're going to have.
06:16Has Washington done a good enough job of building out their roster?
06:19That includes, do you need to add to the receiver position?
06:22What up, Pauly?
06:23How you been, man?
06:26JP.
06:27What's up, dude?
06:28What's up, dude?
06:29What's up, man?
06:31Big bro, how you doing?
06:32Chilling.
06:33Hey, listen, man.
06:35I'm going to say this.
06:36I'm going to agree.
06:37I think the cornerback position was, you know, a bigger position.
06:42They brought in others.
06:43But I think one knee to me was center because at cornerback and receiver,
06:50they have guys who actually played cornerback and receiver.
06:53And at center, you know, they don't have nobody who actually been in a fire out there at center
06:59when it really counts.
07:00So, I thought that was not addressing that.
07:02I don't – you know, that's kind of iffy with me.
07:04They take Allegretti as the guy, dude.
07:07Yeah, I understand.
07:08But Allegretti, you know, he ain't got too many hours at that spot.
07:13But as far as how you go, man, I mean, if he gets released, I don't mind bringing him in.
07:17But I don't think it's a need, man.
07:20I like the receiver position.
07:22I like what they got there.
07:24I'll be with you, just like you were saying, Demons.
07:26I'll be with you, like, remember when Carolina made the Super Bowl?
07:30Yep.
07:32Their number one receiver was Ted Ginn.
07:34Does anybody view him as a one guy, a number one guy?
07:39Cam in those days was such a unique talent.
07:42But I hear what you're saying.
07:43No, he played a role.
07:45He was a deep guy.
07:47Because like you said, Demons, they had a tight end patrol in the middle
07:50to bring his safeties up.
07:51And he also had a hell of a running game that was also bringing everybody close to the line of
07:56scrimmage.
07:57Paulie, I got a question for you.
07:58Is Sheehan on vacation?
08:00We get in Simon Castle, not Manny, and nobody told us?
08:03Hey, listen, man.
08:04You say that every time I call, man.
08:07Appreciate you, bro.
08:08That bit getting old, almost like your green toe.
08:12I'm wearing flip-flops today.
08:14Everybody can see you.
08:15See you, buddy.
08:15All right, brother.
08:16Now, to his credit, I put out the bat signal for Manny in Southeast, and he has called in.
08:22All right.
08:23Manny, has Washington addressed everything they need to for a good season?
08:30But this season, I'm going to say, yeah, because 1A was the defensive line.
08:34I can't argue that.
08:35You got to punch them in the face.
08:36You got to punch them in the mouth to be able to throw them all so they can't make all
08:40them yards and run like they want to.
08:421B was the linebackers.
08:441C was the offensive line.
08:46Yes.
08:46They addressed all that.
08:48But I'm talking about the wide receiver position for the simple fact that after this year, who was our number
08:54one?
08:56You feel what I'm saying?
08:57It ain't got nothing to do with B.A.
08:59I'm talking about we solidified the wide receiver, the wide receiver 2 or 1A, because after this year, we're back
09:05on the Turing thing.
09:06But see, that's the thing about it, though, Manny.
09:08It's hard for me to think about next year when this year hadn't even started.
09:13I understand that.
09:14Brian, listen, you're the big homie.
09:16I don't argue nothing you say.
09:18I listen to everything you say.
09:19You know why?
09:20Because you did it.
09:21You know what I mean?
09:22And you gave us a piece the other day that was your business that you chose to give about how
09:27you ran up in that office and told them people's mind, sign this paperwork or let me go.
09:32And it worked.
09:33I get that.
09:34I listen to everything you say.
09:36But we got to deal with what happened when Terry got hurt.
09:41I hear.
09:42Listen.
09:43She's going to be a monster.
09:45She's going to be a monster.
09:46She's going to be a monster.
09:48Rashad White is going to be a monster coming out of the backfield.
09:50But, Brian, you're one of them.
09:54You know how that position to be defended to where they run.
10:00Jay's going to have to run again.
10:01We have to have a solid number one coming because we don't even know if Terry's going to make the
10:06whole year, even though he's an Ironman.
10:08But he got hurt last year.
10:10Manny, I appreciate the call.
10:12They do have, I think, a real reason Carnell Tate was very much in play at number seven.
10:17Because, listen, they know the same things we know.
10:21That Terry, next year, won't have guaranteed money on his deal.
10:25And that could create a situation.
10:27But to be a Mr.'s point, that's not a concern for this year.
10:31Like, if you could have drafted somebody there, cool.
10:33But that's, what do they say?
10:36That's for future us to figure out?
10:38Yeah.
10:39I'll sneak one more in.
10:40My guy, Kenny is in Largo.
10:41Kenny, you think they've addressed everything?
10:44Yo, yo, I got dog.
10:48Man, I feel like we can go to the season good because we got the same receiving room just like
10:55in 24th.
10:56Like you said, JP, like, our floor is better.
10:58We're not going out there with Chosen, Anderson, and freaking Chris Moore.
11:02Yeah.
11:02You know what I'm saying?
11:02Like, we can be just fine, in my opinion.
11:05And I was liking Luke McCaffrey.
11:07I think he was ascending.
11:09Still could be.
11:09Before he got hurt.
11:10There's no rule that doesn't allow him to ascend.
11:13Like, same with Jalen Lane.
11:14Like, just because we ain't got the big names and all that, that don't mean we're not good, man.
11:20I don't know.
11:21But if they bring a man, cool.
11:22If they don't, cool.
11:23Yeah.
11:24I think we can be fine.
11:25Appreciate you, Kenny.
11:26Thank you, buddy.
11:28B always says this, that they may not have the name value, but nobody does until they pop.
11:33Right?
11:34True.
11:34And McLaurin said the same thing at one point this offseason.
11:37He's like, yeah, you know, I've told all the guys in that locker room nobody had heard of me.
11:41And then I went out and had a good season.
11:43Like, all of these players are legally allowed to ball out and change the entire narrative.
11:51Hell yeah.
11:51There is no restriction upon that.
11:54Have the commanders done enough to fix their roster?
11:58To get back to the playoff level?
12:00You look around, the ratings people, PFF, all the, it doesn't look like it.
12:04But I think here in D.C., folks feel different.
12:07Let us know.
12:08Chris Miller joins us at noon.
