Speaking after launching the Asean Ports and Logistics 2026 Conference on Wednesday (July 8), Loke said the trend highlighted the need for Asean to work together to keep the Straits of Malacca safe, secure and free from conflict.

00:00Excellency, you mentioned in your speech that the geopolitical uncertainty affected a lot and makes the military industry more complex.
00:12Can you tell us how much the crisis and the thermal strength affected the poor in Asia and how Asian
00:21countries overcome this crisis?
00:24Well, I think as I mentioned generally, of course, what happened in the Middle East affected global trade and global
00:33operations.
00:34Many countries are disrupted. Many ports are having disruption.
00:39But in the context of Malaysian ports, in fact, we are lucky to see that actually there were growth.
00:46There were positive growth in the first quarter of this year.
00:50Our operations in Malaysian ports are by and large not really that affected by the crisis in Middle East.
00:58In fact, our volume has grown both in Port Klang as well as in PTP.
01:03As mentioned, the geopolitical uncertainties in the Middle East, while it is a threat, it also provides an opportunity for
01:13ports in ASEAN, in particular in Malaysia,
01:15because we are considered a safe haven. So a lot of transshipmen happened here in our Malaysian ports.
01:22And most importantly, this part of the region is safe and secure.
01:28So that's why all ASEAN countries must work together to ensure the safety and neutrality of the Straits of Malacca.
01:37So this is very important to ensure that the Straits of Malacca will remain free, remain safe and we uphold
01:46the principle of freedom of navigation.
01:49So Straits of Malacca should be free from any conflicts. That is our number one commitment.
01:54Thank you very much.
