00:00Let's go to our second triple play of the weekend, and this one is with Sean Larkin. Sean.
00:06Thank you, sir. All right, guys, this one was sent to us by the Arkansas State Police. Big
00:11shocker. But troopers were responding to multiple reports of a reckless driver on I-40. It turns
00:18out, though, that there was a reason for the reckless driving.
00:26An Arkansas State trooper is catching up to this 2018 Subaru Forester that's driving erratically.
00:34The trooper pulls up alongside the driver and tries to get her attention.
00:43It turns out there's a really good reason for the erratic driving. The driver is completely passed out.
00:50Hey! Hey! Excuse me!
00:55Apparently, the car is driving on its own, thanks to Subaru's lane-centering feature,
01:00which helps steer the car when it drifts away from its lane.
01:04The county, they advise they are not in a pursuit. They advise that they think it's...
01:11As the trooper waits for backup to arrive, he continues to follow the Forester,
01:16which is set to cruise control at nearly 70 miles an hour. The car manages to stay in its lane
01:22for nearly 10 miles, until finally, a second trooper arrives on the scene
01:29and pulls up alongside the Subaru to see for himself.
01:32I don't think she's jack-concent.
01:36The troopers consider two options.
01:39Would it be better to try to box her in, or should I pull out the spikes?
01:43Let's try the spikes. That's the only way we're going to get her to slow down.
01:47They send a third trooper ahead with spike strips.
01:50We're passing the rest area now. Speed 67. She's still all over her and landing now. Passing herself.
02:00Still in the left lane, coming to you.
02:03The stop sticks fail.
02:05Name them, girl.
02:06So now, for plan B. The three patrol cars get in position to box her in.
02:11Of course, I'm going to roll, and I'm in front of her.
02:14Like, she's gasping for air now.
02:18Looks like she's starting to wake up.
02:20Looks like she may be able to stop.
02:23The driver puts on the brakes
02:27and looks to be pulling over.
02:29But then, side swipes a patrol car
02:36and bumps another before trying to pull away.
02:39She's still trying to go. We're going to have to DVL.
02:56And the Subaru flips over and rolls to a stop.
03:04The driver's now trapped inside, so a trooper begins smashing the windshield with a baton.
03:10The driver is removed from the car and immediately begins talking with the troopers.
03:15With the Subaru now smoking,
03:17they carry her to the other side of the highway and wait for medics to arrive.
03:21Copy, 1016 has been notified. Come wrong way, 339.
03:25The driver was cited on misdemeanor criminal charges
03:28and then transported by air vac to a hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
03:34All right. Wow.
03:35Um, just misdemeanor, huh?
03:37Just misdemeanor.
03:38Well, she's kind of asleepish.
03:40Yeah.
03:41You know, wasn't, uh, no one, no criminal intent.
03:43Right.
03:44To evaluate up to a higher level.
03:45Right. One way to get woken up.
03:47Yeah.
03:47Yeah.
03:47It's obvious.
