00:00It was one of the most consequential days of the year at the Supreme Court,
00:03with the justices handing out a series of decisions, some good, some not so good for
00:07President Trump. The president scored a significant victory when the court ruled 6-3 that states can
00:12bar transgender athletes from competing in girls' and women's sports, finding that both the
00:16Constitution and Title IX allow states to separate athletic teams based on biological sex. Trump
00:21celebrated the ruling, calling it a big win and saying it takes the issue of, quote,
00:25men playing in women's sports off the table. He didn't get to run a full victory lap, though,
00:30because just minutes later, in a 6-3 decision not split along ideological lines, the court struck
00:36down Trump's executive order ending birthright citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants.
00:40Five of the justices ruled that the 14th Amendment protects those children and that changing it would
00:46require more than a presidential order. And the sixth, Justice Brett Kavanaugh, didn't agree with
00:50that opinion, but ruled that the executive order violated federal law. Justices Alito,
00:56Thomas, and Gorsuch dissented. Trump blasted that decision as, quote,
00:59bad for our country and urged Congress to take up legislation addressing birthright citizenship.
