The Rain Rave Water Music Festival could be developed into a high-impact annual tourism event following the success of its inaugural edition under the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, said Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing in Parliament on Tuesday (June 30).

00:04Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Singh told Parliament in a written reply on Tuesday
00:09that the Rain Rave Water Music Festival could be developed into a high-impact annual tourism event
00:15following the success of its inaugural edition.
00:18Tiong said the event that was held in Kuala Lumpur from April 30 to May 2
00:23was one of the flagship programs under the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign
00:28organized by a private company in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia.
00:33He said the ministry will continue to take into account the views of stakeholders
00:37to ensure the tourism sector is strengthened without compromising local values, culture and community sensitivities.
00:45He said all initiatives under the campaign will be implemented prudently and responsibly
00:51in line with the aspirations of the country.
00:53He said the Water Music Festival attracted about 415,000 visitors
00:59and generated an estimated 392.33 million ringgit in economic returns.
01:06Of the total visitors, there were about 150,000 domestic visitors
01:11including those from Sabah and Sarawak
01:14and 100,000 tourists from countries like China, Japan, Bangladesh, India and South Korea.
01:21The ministry said simultaneous events were held in six other locations
01:26and they attracted about 165,000 visitors.
01:30They said the program delivered commercial benefits to businesses in the area
01:34where the Lot 10 shopping complex recorded a 40% increase in footfall and 45% increase in sales,
01:42while Sungai Wang Plaza also saw visitor numbers grow by 31.3% and a surge in sales.
01:49They said food and beverage outlets at Pavilion Hotel also reported an increase in walk-in customers,
01:56with average sales rising by 11%, while food stalls and handicraft stalls set up in the Bukit Bintang area
02:03also generated direct sales close to 390,000 ringgit.
02:08They said the event also generated nearly 10,000 media reports and digital content pieces
02:14with an estimated publicity value of 77.5 million ringgit.
