00:00Let's take a look at what's going on in Colorado now where drivers took cover last night as hail
00:04came down near I-76 during severe storms. Meteorologist and storm chaser Tony Lawback
00:09taking this video in Atwood. You can see cars packed under the canopy of a gas station
00:14and the ground quickly was covered in white. Sometimes they need to send the snow plows out
00:19there in the high plains of Colorado to remove some of the hail. It comes down in such volumes.
00:25This happened a couple of times so far this severe weather season. I want to say spring or summer.
00:30It all kind of blends in. But in the short term tonight we've got another round of nasty storms.
00:36Many of these will break out during the overnight hours tonight into parts of eastern Colorado
00:40and rumbling into parts of Kansas. So eastern Colorado into western Oklahoma and that includes
00:47western Kansas. We're kind of picking the beginning point and the end point of this.
00:50Even a little bit of far southeast Wyoming is in on this too.
00:52damaging wind and hail are the main concerns with this setup.
00:56And when we take a look at the overnight thunderstorm zone, while it begins up to the north
01:02just east of Denver and maybe even near Cheyenne, Wyoming, these storms will be rolling southeast
01:07late at night into Lubbock and Amarillo and areas like Oklahoma City.
01:11We're even going to see a cluster of storms kind of precede that in areas around Tulsa.
01:16So there may be some late evening storms near Tulsa, but the main event charges in from the northwest.
01:21We can show you this even making a move into the Dallas, Shreveport and Little Rock area.
01:26Some thunderstorms later tonight. Let's pull the map out.
01:28So again, look out for a preliminary batch of storms, but then a new cluster of these out of this
01:34area
01:34will roll southeast. So two separate zones.
01:37Some thunderstorms into Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, and north Texas.
01:41That's where we have some risk of severe weather, but the primary driver in our more significant risk
01:46of damaging wind and hail comes out of this clustering of thunderstorms, and that races southeast through the overnight.
01:51That sets us into Wednesday now.
01:53Some leftovers here into Arkansas with a little more fuel during the afternoon.
01:58Tonight's round will help to fuel and kind of seed the next round of daytime thunderstorms down into Arkansas, Mississippi
02:03area.
02:04But Wednesday evening, a new round breaks out into High Plains again, eastern Colorado, a little bit of Wyoming, western
02:10Nebraska, western Kansas.
02:12That's the area facing some of the worst of it here.
02:15And then deep into the night, Wednesday night to Thursday morning, central Kansas gets into that,
02:20and that makes a push even into parts of Missouri with the flow kind of reorienting, directing some of that
02:24action closer to Interstate 70.
02:26Later in the week, we've got more storms into the Ohio Valley Friday.
02:29It's been such a tough, severe weather season into Illinois.
02:32We don't expect this to be a high-end event, but there will be some severe weather with that on
02:37Friday in Illinois once again.
02:38So Wednesday, here's the storm zone, Colorado and New Mexico all the way down into parts of Mississippi.
02:44And in between, some of the downpours in that more specific stripe where the storms are more organized could lead
02:49to flash flooding,
02:51and travel delays are a sure bet there for some.
02:54So the Wednesday severe risk area here is again focused initially in eastern Colorado and surrounding areas,
03:00Cheyenne, Wyoming, western Nebraska, far western Kansas in on some of that,
03:04with some severe weather scattered, more isolated in nature all the way down into Mississippi.
03:09So in the high plains, we're looking at eastern Colorado, places like Cheyenne, Sydney, Nebraska, Goodland, Kansas, Lamar, Colorado,
03:16mainly east of Denver, damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning.
03:20Some of this will carry through Wednesday night and then into Thursday.
03:23Still a lot of noise on the map there with numerous strong thunderstorms.
