00:00Mini-camp getting underway out in Ashburn.
00:03Three days of it.
00:04We'll see if they go all three.
00:06They're scheduled for today, tomorrow, and Thursday.
00:09Dan Quinn did say everybody is there in some form today
00:14except for the four players coming off end-of-season surgeries,
00:19Armstrong, Wise, Settle, and Trey Amos.
00:24But Bill Krosky, Merritt, Terry McLaurin, Antonio Williams, all there.
00:30And, yeah, he spoke a little earlier.
00:33We may have some sound for you before the end of the show.
00:38So, CBSSports.com's Jordan Dijani,
00:42we've had Jordan on the show many times over the years,
00:45put out a story the other day about the best fits for Stefan Diggs.
00:53Now, we played some of the sound from Stefan Diggs yesterday.
00:56He was on with Channel 5 locally,
01:00and he has said all the right things about being interested in playing in D.C.
01:05and loving D.C.
01:06and this is his home.
01:07And wouldn't it be great if, you know,
01:10he had a chance to play for the hometown team.
01:14Hometown team, obviously, he went to good council,
01:18played for the great Bob Malloy and a great staff there,
01:22played at Maryland.
01:24And he has said all the right things.
01:26My personal view is that Stefan Diggs will end up getting a better opportunity
01:34and perhaps more money elsewhere.
01:37And when I say more money, it's not that Washington can't afford him.
01:41They can.
01:41But Terry McLaurin is the entrenched number one.
01:46There's still the Brandon Iyuk situation, and that may drag on.
01:52I don't think Stefan Diggs wants to go somewhere where he would end up being
01:57either, you know, the two or the third, the second or third option.
02:03I think he wants to go somewhere where he is the number one option,
02:07which he has always been.
02:08He may also seek out a better contention situation,
02:12a team that's much closer perception-wise than Washington.
02:16We'll see.
02:17I mean, we've talked about this ad nauseum, obviously, at this point.
02:21I would love it if Stefan Diggs played in Washington next year.
02:25I think he would be a tremendous help if he played at the level that he played
02:30at last year in New England.
02:32Now, all things being equal, and they're not,
02:35between Brandon Iyuk and Stefan Diggs, Stefan Diggs is actually eligible right now
02:41to sign with somebody.
02:43Brandon Iyuk is technically a member of the 49ers.
02:47Stefan Diggs played last year and played well.
02:50It's been two seasons since Brandon Iyuk played, essentially.
02:55Stefan Diggs actually appears to be of sound mind right now,
02:59whereas Brandon Iyuk doesn't seem to necessarily be with it right now.
03:05Now, it could all be some crazy strategy that he's playing,
03:10but all things being equal, if they were, I'd actually prefer Iyuk
03:16because there's much more of a long-term upside with Iyuk.
03:22But if you told me they went Diggs, I'd be fine with it.
03:25So Jordan Dijani ranked the top five landing spots for Stefan Diggs.
03:32Number one on his list, Washington.
03:36He writes, the Washington commanders could use another wide receiver.
03:40Yeah, no kidding.
03:42Adam Peters drafted Clemson slot weapon Antonio Williams.
03:46He may end up being more than that.
03:47But it's fair to wonder if Jaden Daniels has enough talent at wide out
03:51to support another NFC championship run.
03:55Debo Samuels no longer with the team.
03:57He led the commanders in receiving last year with 727 yards.
04:02That ranked 42nd in the NFL.
04:05Terry McLaurin put together the worst season of his career
04:07with 582 yards receiving in just 10 games
04:12as he struggled to stay healthy.
04:15If Washington wide receiver one, meaning Terry,
04:19has another season like that, the commander's passing attack is doomed.
04:24Diggs is also a DMV man and played his high school football 13 miles north of D.C.
04:31Is good counsel 13 miles north of D.C.?
04:33I don't know.
04:34Before starring at the University of Maryland.
04:37By the way, number two on the list for Stefan Diggs makes sense to me.
04:41Baltimore.
04:42Number three, the Rams, seriously.
04:45Number four, the 49ers.
04:48And number five, Denver.
04:51That's his list of the best possible landing spots for Stefan Diggs.
04:59By the way, I was looking at the list of like the best free agents
05:02that are still available.
05:03Stefan Diggs is on that list.
05:05Keenan Allen.
05:06We've talked about Keenan Allen before.
05:08He's on that list.
05:10I think Keenan Allen ends up back with the Chargers, personally.
05:14You know, three players from last year's Washington team are still perceived to be
05:23big name and perhaps significant contributing free agents who are still out there.
05:29Bobby Wagner, Debo Samuel, and Von Miller.
05:34Then you have AJ Epinesa.
05:38I actually really liked him during free agency, but he was injured, apparently.
05:44There was an injury there that scared some people off.
05:47He is still available out there.
05:50Cam Jordan is still available out there, you know, as a pass rusher, as is Jadavian Clowney.
05:58And, uh, and Joey Bosa.
06:01So, they're still, you know, Von Miller, Joey Bosa, um, uh, Jadavian Clowney and Cam Jordan
06:08are all out there as, you know, they would be specialty situational pass rushers.
06:17I think Joey Bosa would be so interesting.
06:19He played well last year.
06:20Um, he's older and he doesn't always stay healthy, but he was pretty good last year in
06:27Buffalo.
06:28Now, the injuries have always derailed him like they have with his brother, but man, in
06:34terms of get off quickness and speed, when he's healthy, he's up there.
06:40All right.
06:41Uh, something Dan Quinn said, uh, today when we come back, Kevin Sheehan showed the team
06:46980 and the team 980.com.
06:48This was Dan Quinn just in the last hour out at minicamp, uh, talking about signing available
06:57free agents.
06:58Yeah.
06:59And, uh, yeah, we were glad we signed Vaughn.
07:01Like, like he brought a lot to our team, the, the knowledge, the intensity.
07:05So we'd been visiting with him, you know, through the spring and, um, you know, had chances
07:10to visit with him.
07:11So that was more ongoing, you know, than just that time.
07:14But, um, when it comes time for, what do they add the value that they bring to the team?
07:18What does that look like?
07:19How would they feature in a role?
07:20So it's not surprising for a team going through different stages to say, okay, they've gone
07:26through a spring.
07:27Where are they?
07:27And even into training camp sometimes where that could change, um, for a certain veteran
07:32who can bring a certain specific skillset to a team and, uh, finding that right fits
07:37a big piece of it.
07:40Max, you got to tell me what the question was going in.
07:42What was the question?
07:43It sounded like he was answering a question about Vaughn Miller.
07:46Yeah.
07:46So they referenced Vaughn Miller signing last year and how it helped the team and all that.
07:50The, they haven't been giving the mic out.
07:52So it's been very hard to get a question.
07:54No worries.
07:55So it's bad for radio.
07:56Will you play the answer again?
07:57Because I actually, you, you, you're, you're right.
08:00You, you said to me during the break, it kind of, uh, dovetails from what you were talking
08:04about with, with some of the available free agents, because given the amount
08:08of money Washington has, forget about IU, we know that that's in play or digs or whatever,
08:14but some of these other guys could be in play too, especially if they end up, you know,
08:20having a need and unexpected need.
08:23Let's hope that's not the case, but just play that answer.
08:26I want to hear what he said again.
08:28Yeah.
08:28And, uh, man, we were glad we signed Vaughn.
08:30Like, like he brought a lot to our team, the knowledge, the intensity.
08:34So we'd been visiting with him, you know, through the spring and, um, you know, had
08:39chances to visit with him.
08:40So that was more ongoing, you know, than just that time.
08:43But, um, when it comes time for, what do they add the value that they bring to the team?
08:47What does that look like?
08:48How would they feature in a role?
08:49So it's not surprising for a team going through different stages to say, okay, they'd gone
08:55through a spring.
08:56Where are they?
08:57And even into training camp sometimes where that could change, um, for a certain veteran
09:01who can bring a certain specific skillset to a team and, uh, finding that right fits a
09:07big piece of it.
09:09Look, I, I hope that, you know, the additions of away and Chanel and, you know, a many hue and
09:19the return of Armstrong and the return of wise and chase on, et cetera.
09:24I hope we don't get to, you know, August 24th or whatever, August 15th and have a need
09:31for a pass rusher, given how much money they spent on their defense, how many new players
09:37they added on their defense.
09:39But there are some intriguing guys out there, you know, if they ended up being in that spot.
09:45Now, of course, we're all focused on offensively wide receiver in particular, and it's Diggs,
09:53Allen and Iuke.
09:54I mean, that's kind of the list at this point.
09:56I've already talked about Keenan Allen, but I'll just repeat what I've said about Keenan
10:00Allen.
10:00I've always been a fan of Keenan Allen's and he is an exceptional route runner.
10:05He is a pro's pro.
10:07I mean, he would be another massive addition to the locker room in terms of culture.
10:14He's always been one of the most respected, one of the most well-liked players.
10:19And let's face it, the dude just doesn't drop balls.
10:22You know, he is a contested catch guy, but at his age now, he's never been a separator.
10:28He's never been a deep threat to begin with.
10:30He's a possession receiver, and I would bet they actually have some thoughts that somebody
10:36like Traylon Burks could become somebody like Keenan Allen.
10:41I mean, that would be the dream, obviously.
10:45This was Dan Quinn on Jaden Daniels pushing the offense right now.
10:54Yeah, I think it forces the other players to elevate quickly, too.
10:58You know, knowing that he's really on his game.
11:01So when we check a play, we work different cadences, different personnel groups.
11:05They better have their space in order because they can count on he and Marcus in that same
11:11space.
11:12So having the two of them really pushing tempos and pushing people into that spot, it's
11:19absolutely like a hidden advantage for us.
11:21The players, this time of year is so important for their skill work.
11:24How can they develop a certain part of an option route, a certain part of something?
11:29So that piece is a big part of their springs to elevate what part of their game they want
11:35to work heading into camp.
11:36So it's like this giant ramp up in a way geared towards a month from now.
11:42Dan Quinn.
11:44You know, I say this every year, this time of year, OTAs, mini camp, and even, you know,
11:51much of training camp.
11:53Really, really hard to have any major takeaways.
11:56You'll read people doing play-by-play, bless their hearts.
11:59Uh, the, the thing you think you keep your fingers crossed on is that nobody gets hurt.
12:05Nobody gets hurt.
12:06And then you just listen to the coaches to see if there's any tells.
12:10Occasionally there are probably more during training camp.
12:14Um, but yeah, uh, CBS sports.
12:17Also, I just happened to have been, um, again, reading the, uh, a lot of what they put out
12:22here over the last few days, uh, on the NFL, and they actually summarized the entire free
12:29agency period.
12:30Um, there's more to go, but Washington spent the third most amount of money in free agency.
12:39Uh, the Raiders spent a little bit more and the Titans spent a little bit more.
12:44They were one, two Washington was three in overall aggregate spend.
12:49Um, and then in terms of the new players or just the free agent signed, which would include
12:57some of their own, no one even close to the number that Washington signed in free agency.
13:03Washington, if you total it all up, including some of their own 28 free agents signed since
13:11the signing period began, um, back in early March, no other team even close, uh, to that.
13:19Uh, the Titans signed 20 free agents.
13:23Obviously much of Washington's emphasis free agency wise was focused on defense.
