00:00The 2026 El Nino could become one of the strongest climate events in decades,
00:06with peak impact expected in the second half of the year.
00:10That's according to Australia's Bureau of Meteorology,
00:13which says it could rank among the most powerful events since 1950.
00:19The weather pattern is expected to bring heavy rain to parts of the Americas,
00:23while turning much of Asia hotter and drier.
00:26That has raised concerns over food security,
00:29as crops in several parts of Asia are already under pressure.
00:33In Australia, El Nino is usually linked to lower rainfall and higher temperatures,
00:38increasing the risk of drought and cutting farm output.
00:41The country is one of the world's biggest exporters of wheat, sugar and beef,
00:46making weather patterns a key driver for global food markets.
00:49The last El Nino in 2023 and 2024 delivered Australia's driest three-month period on record,
00:56putting heavy pressure on farming communities.
