Losing weight the right way

Filipinos seeking weight-loss treatment were urged to undergo medically supervised and science-based care instead of self-medicating amid the growing popularity of drugs sold through the black market. Wei Sun, general manager of Novo Nordisk, said obesity medications should only be taken with proper consultation, diagnostics, and monitoring from healthcare professionals. Sun also said obesity is linked to more than 200 diseases, including Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular illnesses. Novo Nordisk launched its ‘Live Lighter’ movement in the Philippines alongside the rollout of Wegovy and announced a partnership with Rose Pharmacy to improve access to obesity care in Cebu and the Visayas.

00:00It's the most important elements for us when we provide medication and innovation to the patients.
00:07And when you talk about Jiao Ping Huan, Jiao Ping Huan is a very broad category.
00:11What I can speak to is really about the metatide that we are coming from Novonorsk.
00:18Now, Jiao Ping Huan, I think what you also mentioned, Jiao Ping Huan,
00:20there's a lot of people sort of doing self-medication and perhaps coming from,
00:25not exactly from the prescription from the doctors.
00:27And that's something that we strongly advise against.
00:31Because CLP1 or Simagotide is a prescription drug.
00:35And for any patient initiating such treatment, it requires proper HCT or doctor's initiation
00:44and also doctor's follow-up as well.
00:47So that's a very important element.
00:49Now, to your question about safety, and I can speak to Simagotide myself.
00:53So Simagotide is a molecule which we have launched in the market for the last probably more than 10 years.
01:02And Simagotide has been studied in a huge number of clinical trials.
01:11So we all know that when you bring the product to the market, especially pharmaceutical products,
01:15you need to have a very strong base of clinical trial.
01:18Around the 54,000 patients have been through the clinical trial.
01:23So the molecule itself has been extensively studied.
01:26Now, when we talk about the usage of the molecule around the world,
01:29and the molecule has been utilized by around the 49 million patient years.
01:36So you will say, what is the patient years, right?
01:38So patient years is really the basic concept to say if you are having one patient
01:43on the treatment molecule for one year, and that's one patient year.
01:47Now for the Simagotide molecule itself, we have around 49 million patient years.
01:52So with that sort of safety record behind us, we can very simply say that Simagotide is a safe treatment
01:59for patients with obesity and diabetes.
02:06Any other questions?
02:10And proper diet and proper exercise is still super important for patients.
02:15And medication alone cannot solve the problem.
02:17So it's also very important for me to mention that because diet and exercise represent a lifestyle change.
02:23And ultimately, obesity is a chronic disease and requires lifestyle change in order to proper treat it.
02:31Now if you talk about treatment, then what I can speak to is the treatment that we provide.
02:36So what we have is Simagotide-Sol-K1 treatment.
02:40That's currently available in the market.
02:42And that's provided the innovation in the medication to the patient.
02:48The T-L-K1 class itself, yes, that's also the class for the obesity treatment as well.
02:54And there are a couple of options, but for us, the Simagotide is one of the options.
03:00There's a couple of options.
03:02No, Simagotide itself has a brand name of Vigobin for treatment for obesity treatment.
03:10It's a prescription drug.
03:12Therefore, it's important for me to emphasize that for any patient who requires treatment,
03:17they will need to consult with the doctors first.
03:21Beyond the scale, an initiative guided by our shared vision of caring for the communities we serve across the Visayas
03:29and Midanao.
03:30Obesity and diabetes continue to rise in our regions, affecting not just individual health, but families and communities as a
03:39whole.
03:41The Gankayo silently struggling, and for many, access to timely screening and modern care remains a challenge.
03:49These conditions are often managed quietly, hilong-hilong lang, and then we do a lot of self-medication.
03:57Pero, ginaagwanta lang nila adlaw-adlaw, not knowing where to go, who to talk to, and maybe afraid sa post.
04:04Or there are really old mga kapaw na kagmatinuuan na ito on how to lose weight, what's bad, what's good.
04:13Yes, we firmly believe that Visayas and Midanao deserve more accessible options for health.
04:24So, that is where Rose Pharmacy will be the partner of Novo Nordisk, as our store network will be able
04:36to spread our advocacy,
04:39not just in the big cities, but also in the smaller towns and municipalities.
