00:02Closed in late 2024, by the start of last summer, the site was in a woeful state. Operators
00:09have since convinced authorities they've accomplished a tumble turn.
00:12They will open the pool on the 1st of November, a 15 metre pool that's available for the
00:20public to use.
00:21Access Canberra has decided it won't terminate the lease after issuing a controlled activity
00:26order in January, but they are expecting an application to remove the site's slides and
00:31other damaged infrastructure is in the pipeline.
00:34Ultimately, a decision around the slides is a commercial one for the lessee.
00:40It certainly won't be a big splash without the water slides. I mean, what we've been advocating
00:44for since day one was the 50 metre pool, the water slides and the shared lawn space.
00:47Those who've been campaigning to save the water park still have a sinking feeling.
00:52What we're seeing is after two years of failure to cooperate, their punishment for that is
00:57being gifted a clear path straight to developing on the site, which really, that's no consequence
01:02whatsoever.
01:03If we are getting other things, hotels and other redevelopments, I don't think that is
01:08what the community expects from a community and recreational site.
01:12The government insists any change to the site would have to go through a development approval
01:16process.
01:17The government has no intention whatsoever to rezone this site away from restricted recreational
01:26use.
01:28Deep concern remains about what's to come.
