11 March - National evening forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there and a very good evening to you on this Wednesday evening. We have wind warnings which go live
00:06during the early hours of tomorrow morning across eastern southern parts of Scotland, northern England, north Wales as well as
00:12northern Ireland covering the central belt as well.
00:14A gust could reach 60 to 70 miles an hour and this strong wind which will push southwards is associated
00:21with some heavy pulses of rain and here's that weather front. Now this weather front will be fairly slow moving,
00:27stalling across more northern areas of England, southern Scotland, north Wales through Thursday before it clears. The air is colder
00:33behind and so a cluster of showers moving in on Friday, the risk of snow particularly over higher ground and
00:40also the chance of some ice into Saturday a quieter day.
00:43Still some showers in the north and the west and then more rain arrives on Sunday. For the time being
00:49it's mostly dry with some starry skies across England and Wales. You can see where this weather front is so
00:55the rain is intensifying all the while and we do have those strong relentless winds coming in from the southwest.
01:03The rain will extend towards eastern Scotland through into the early hours, the central belt as well and nudge in
01:09across the western side of northern Ireland so by around 5, 6 o'clock in the morning
01:13you can see it's covering most of northern Ireland and not far off Belfast and Newry. This is heavy rain
01:19and squally winds associated with it. The air behind it as I said is cold and we'll see showers feeding
01:24in.
01:25For England and Wales it's a cloudy start to the day. We'll see a blustery wind and also where the
01:32clouds are thick enough we could see a little bit of patchy rain. Clearer skies perhaps for East Anglia that's
01:38where you could see some brighter weather to start Thursday but it's not going to last on a chilly morning
01:44here.
01:44So through the morning you can see this band of heavy rain which is pushing down towards northern England. By
01:52lunchtime reaching places such as South Yorkshire covering most of Wales, the Midlands seeing some west country as well and
01:59that rain sitting across northern Ireland, central and southern parts of Scotland.
02:02Notice on this rain band that's where the strongest winds will be and it's going to turn very gusty particularly
02:08over the hills and towards the north a blustery breeze delivering those showers.
02:13Towards the south yes the cloud will gather and we will see some patchy rain but you're not likely to
02:19see this heavier band of rain until much later on.
02:23So through the afternoon some pretty nasty conditions if you are travelling across the central swathe of the country. Here's
02:30your warning zone for the wind. It would have expired by lunchtime across Northern Ireland and temperatures ahead of the
02:36weather front coming in around 12 to 14. Behind this front only 7 to 8 degrees Celsius so turning colder
02:43here and again with a rash of showers.
02:45So through Thursday evening we watch as this waving front continues its passage southwards as well as eastwards. So through
02:55Russia you'll see some heavy pulses particularly the Midlands, Northern England, Wales clearing southern Scotland though as it arrives through
03:03the early hours of Friday morning towards the Midlands as well as the south east.
03:07Now in its wake these showers will gather they could merge to form a longer spell of rain and still
03:14very windy across Scotland as well as Northern Ireland with some clearance coming in behind but it will be a
03:20chilly start to Friday with temperatures dipping down to 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.
03:25Through Friday morning then we hang on to the rain first thing towards the south east but it is clearing.
03:32Now notice these showers are just moving in very quickly on that strong wind. A little sunshine in between. The
03:40legacy of that cloud continues through the morning across more central and southern areas and showers extending across south Wales,
03:48the west country central southern England.
03:50This band of showers through the lunch time period will affect yet again Northern Ireland, Southern Scotland, Northern England with
03:58a scattering of heavy showers towards the north and one or two further south with that cloud lingering on across
04:04east Anglia as well as the south east. Temperatures will be lower wherever you are with a significant wind chill
04:09particularly across more northern areas where the winds will remain strong.
04:12Cold into Saturday the winds will be lighter across England and Wales still some showers drifting across the sky but
04:18look at this yet again another band of rain moves in and that rain extends eastwards as we head through
04:24Sunday as the winds pick up and again some snow over the mountains. I'll see you later.
