The prosecution in Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin’s corruption case told the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Wednesday (March 11_ that ongoing investigations can continue, despite him being charged last year.

00:01The prosecution in the corruption case involving Datuk Shri Shamsul Iskandar Mohammed Akin told the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on
00:09Wednesday that there is no legal provision preventing investigations from continuing, despite him being charged last year.
00:16Deputy Public Prosecutor Farah Ezlin Yousop Khan made the statement after defense lawyer Datuk Amir Hamza Arshad raised the issue
00:26when the case came up for mention before Judge Susanna Hussain.
00:30After the proceedings, Amir Hamza told reporters that the defense had learned that several individuals were recently called in to
00:38record statements.
01:04Amir Hamza also noted that the defense filed an application on February 4th to transfer the case to the High
01:11Court, with the hearing scheduled for April 9th.
01:14The prosecution opposed the transfer, stating that while some documents had been handed over, others were still pending review.
01:22The court fixed May 8th for the next mention.
01:25Shamsul Iskandar faces multiple charges of accepting cash and bribes totaling hundreds of thousands of ringgit, including furniture and electrical
01:35appliances,
01:35from 37-year-old businessman Albert Tejian Ching, to assist his companies in obtaining mineral exploration licenses in Sabah.
01:45The offenses allegedly occurred between November 2023 and March 2024 at various locations in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
01:55All charges are framed under Section 17, Subsection A of the MACC Act 2009, punishable under Section 24, Subsection 1,
02:06with up to 20 years imprisonment,
02:09and a fine of at least five times the value of the gratification, or 10,000 ringgit, whichever is higher.
