00:05For many elderly people, an old age home often means loneliness and separation from their loved
00:12ones. At Shante Old Age Home in Karnataka's Belagave district, the twilight years are filled
00:19with laughter, music and movement. Here grandmothers wake up to yoga, learn dance steps to trending
00:28songs and even create social media reels that have gone viral with millions of views.
00:39Their energy and enthusiasm recently earned them national recognition. The grandmothers
00:46of the shelter won the Fit India Championship award at the 63rd Fit India Sundays on Cycle
00:52Campaign held at RK Beach in Vishakhapatnam. Located in Bamanwadi village, about 13 kilometers
01:00from Belagave city, Shante Old Age Home provides free shelter to around 40 elderly people from
01:07different backgrounds who have no family support. The home was started by Vijay More, who named
01:14it after his mother Shante. Along with his wife Maria and son Alan, Vijay treats the elderly
01:21residents like members of his own family. Besides food and shelter, the residents here follow
01:28a daily routine that includes exercise, yoga, physiotherapy and creative activities.
01:3730 years ago, there were very few old age homes in Belagave and most admitted people only from
01:43their own caste or religion. So we started this home to give shelter to senior citizens who
01:50have no support in life. The home is also gaining attention online. Vijay's daughter Cheryl More
01:57teaches the elderly to sing and dance and posts their performances on social media.
02:03The Instagram page Shante Second Childhood has over 1 lakh followers while several reels have
02:10crossed millions of views. Among the most enthusiastic participants is 79-year-old Suman Mohati who proudly
02:18represented the shelter at the Fit India event. After receiving the award, she even performed
02:24Zumba and Yoga on stage, leaving the audience amazed.
02:30Before coming here, we felt our lives were over, but this place has given us a new life. We exercise,
02:39dance and stay active. We feel happy every day. From early morning walks and meditation to evening
02:46dance sessions, every day at Shante Oldage Home is filled with activity. The residents are also
02:54taken on trips to places like Pandharpur, Kolhapur, Goa and Tirupati ensuring that life remains
03:01joyful and fulfilling.
03:04We are strong enough to do our own work. Here we celebrate every moment. We stay fit both physically
03:11and mentally. What began as a shelter for the abandoned has now become a place of renewed hope.
03:18And through their viral dances, fitness routines and boundless spirit, these grandmothers are proving
03:25one simple truth. Life doesn't slow down with age. Sometimes it only gets more vibrant.
