The K&C Masterpiece dipped into Gridiron Gravy and recapped recent NFL moves. They discussed Trey Hendrickson still being on the market, examined major free agent signings, contract values, and team strategies, and highlighted how these moves from around the league could impact the future.

00:00Powered by Men's Tea Clinic, it's time to go around the entire NFL and dip into some
00:06gridiron gravy.
00:11Dip it and rip it.
00:13So, I guess my first question is, what's up with Trey Hendrickson?
00:18What do you mean?
00:19Something wrong with him, you think?
00:21Is his price tag too damn high?
00:23Yeah, I think he wants, I think if the price tag is in that $30 million range and his age,
00:29I'm curious as to what years, like 31 years old, this is bad timing.
00:35Yeah.
00:35This is an unfortunate bad timing situation.
00:38He wanted to experience free agency.
00:42Hey, I want to go through the whole process of getting courted and all these things.
00:48He wants that.
00:49It doesn't seem like he's high up on people's lists.
00:52And people are like, 31.
00:54And Kevin, you brought up the, hey, 30 years old is this number.
00:59Yeah, that's the drop off.
01:00That we're putting it at.
01:01And he's like, but I can beat that.
01:03And everybody thinks they can beat it.
01:06Terry McLaurin did, yeah.
01:08But I think that's one of the things is 31 years old and the number.
01:15And again, I don't know where the years stand on things either.
01:18Do you think the Bengals have, like, things on people too?
01:23What do you mean?
01:23Or they're just like, hey, you guys sign these guys.
01:26We're going to expose all of you.
01:28And that's why the Bengals have been able to get away with, you know, short, you know,
01:33shortchanging people this entire time because they have things on people.
01:37I'm going to say no.
01:39Then I'll go with the age and the years.
01:42Okay.
01:43But, I mean, I'm intrigued by your hypothesis.
01:46Absolutely.
01:47How much money, not to say this will all get paid out,
01:50how much money do you think was doled out in overall contracts yesterday?
01:58I'm going to say $600 million.
02:01That's a lot.
02:02Alec, what say you?
02:04It's actually less.
02:05I'd say, ooh, I don't know.
02:09$400 million?
02:10Between 11 a.m. yesterday and 7 p.m. yesterday, $2.3 billion in total contracts were handed off.
02:22Yeah, because there's a bunch of people that you're like, who gives an F?
02:24But they got $40 million.
02:26You know, like, you get 25 of those and that's a billion dollars, my friend.
02:32Now I realize not all of that money is guaranteed,
02:34but that is still just an astonishing number to consider.
02:41But you have teams that are going to scrap over a million dollars.
02:45Absolutely.
02:45You know, with a player that could really benefit them.
02:48But, I mean, Hendrickson's number, I'm sure they're like,
02:52he'll come off that number at some point.
02:54Because his projection is 3 for 99.
02:57Yeah.
02:58Do you think he's already today having to be like, hey.
03:00I guess I've got to back off of this just a little bit.
03:03But he's the top guy still left out there, right?
03:08Yeah.
03:08For this current group, which is not the best group,
03:13it's an unfortunate free agency group this year.
03:16Now, supposedly the offer to Daniel Jones,
03:20the initial offer the Colts made,
03:21was somewhere in the neighborhood of kind of like that Sam Darnold deal.
03:25Whereas the Athletic is projecting he gets four years, 168 million.
03:31And supposedly Daniel Jones' camp was asking for 50.
03:34So, you've got the Colts offering about 33 and a half.
03:38Daniel Jones' team supposedly asking for 50.
03:41The Athletic saying he'll get 42 million dollars.
03:44At four years, 168 million.
03:46I know he got hurt.
03:47But you could see some signs that it was about to maybe fall apart.
03:52Do you pull the trigger on Daniel Jones or are you like,
03:54that is madness and you can sit there on the transition tag?
03:59This is an interesting question.
04:02I really like this question.
04:07Because I don't believe in Daniel Jones.
04:11But if I'm the coach, I have to sell to my team
04:15that they have to believe in their quarterback.
04:18And so, if I'm the coach, I have to go fight for my quarterback
04:22to tell them, hey, this guy is going to get us there.
04:24We saw it.
04:25We have it.
04:26We just need him to be standing upright and all these things.
04:29But then you start looking at that part where it started to fall off.
04:33Yep.
04:33They had taken advantage of a very poor first part of their season.
04:37Like, their opponent's schedule was awful.
04:40And then all of a sudden it got a little tougher
04:41and they started to fall apart.
04:43So, I don't think he should get that money.
04:46I always want the best for people.
04:49I want them to get paid.
04:50Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:50But I just, I would not, if I'm the GM,
04:53I would be looking elsewhere for the position
04:56because for the next five years,
04:57I don't think Daniel Jones is going to be at that level
05:01for the next five years.
05:02Okay.
05:02I get what you're saying.
05:03All right.
05:04Let's go from that to the Titans.
05:07And John Franklin Myers agreed to a three-year,
05:10$63 million deal.
05:12The Steelers yesterday, they lost Kenneth Gainwell,
05:15who went to the Buccaneers, for two years, $14 million.
05:19And in exchange, the Steelers picked up Rico Dowdle
05:22on a two-year, $12.25 million deal.
05:25I know that the Cowboys were not in the market for running back,
05:29but do you think that is a good deal for the Steelers?
05:31Dowdle, two years, $12.25 total.
05:34Yes, absolutely it is.
05:35Yeah, dude, too.
05:36That dude can run.
05:37He can play.
05:38And Mike McCarthy knows him very well.
05:40Reed Blankenship.
05:42I know the Cowboys, they did pick up a safety yesterday.
05:46But former Eagles safety Reed Blankenship is signing
05:49with the Houston Texans on a three-year, $24.75 million deal,
05:54so about $8.25 million per on a name that I know some people
05:59had said, hey, let's get him on over to Dallas.
06:02Somebody that you talked about a lot in the playoffs, Alec,
06:07Rashid Shahid, three years, $51 million deal.
06:12That includes $34.7 million guaranteed.
06:15How vital did you think it was for Seattle to hold on to him?
06:19I think they needed to keep some sense of continuity
06:22because it felt like they won the championship and they said,
06:25screw it, franchise is for sale.
06:26We're going to let the Super Bowl MVP walk.
06:29You know, like they literally have stood pat on everything so far this offseason.
06:35So knowing John Schneider, he's probably going to obliterate the draft again this year
06:39and he's going to have a competitive team next year.
06:42But you need some sense of continuity, especially with a quarterback
06:45that I still don't totally believe in.
06:48How do you make his life easier?
06:51You bring back the same crew that made his life easier last year.
06:54And I think Shahid earned it.
06:56I totally thought he was going to walk away after they didn't get something done
06:59before the window opened.
07:01Kind of like the Alec Pierce situation.
07:03I thought it was going to be, well, if they don't get something done before the day comes,
07:07somebody's going to overpay.
07:08And I thought they got a good deal for him.
07:10All right.
07:11What about we talked about what were the commanders going to do with all of that money?
07:16Especially after they missed out on Linderbaum.
07:19They say, oh, to Fay, oh, way, come on down.
07:22Four years, $100 million deal, including $68 million guaranteed.
07:28I know this is somebody, by the way, congrats to David Molageta for continuing to be awesome
07:33at getting his clients all of the money.
07:36I know we had talked about this player, and you don't usually get great bargains on day
07:41one of free agency.
07:42But would you have thought four for $100 for O-Way?
07:45Because I would not have.
07:47Um, it's interesting where that market is right now for that position.
07:53It's a good time to play that position.
07:55And, you know, that's another thing, too, is, Kevin, we're looking at a draft that, Alec,
08:00do you agree it's kind of full of potential young edge rusher guys out there?
08:05Yep.
08:05I think, and again, some teams want to win now.
08:10Uh, and we pointed out last year that those young edge rushers aren't always hyperproductive
08:18in their first season.
08:20But there's a lot of them there.
08:22So I wonder, you know, where that spending, that decision comes from.
08:2525 is a good number, though, for a player that's going to get you some about 10 sacks.
08:3126, I know you don't love this player.
08:36Right now, the Cardinals have Jacoby Brissett.
08:40They have Gardner Minshew.
08:42Are they going to go for Kirk Cousins?
08:45Should they go for Kirk Cousins?
08:47Or are you like, ah, man, we got those two guys.
08:50What's the difference?
08:51We should trade up and get Fernando Mendoza.
08:53They do have the third pick?
08:56That could be viable.
08:58You'd have to trade, I think, a lot to get the Raiders to go away from that.
09:03But, man, that would be crazy.
09:05I mean, if they go get Kirk Cousins, Kevin, it's like it's the stable of old horses that
09:13are just, you know, waiting their time to go out into the field and be in the pasture
09:17for a while.
09:18Look at the flowers.
09:19Yeah, exactly.
09:20Like, that's basically all that group is right there.
09:23Jacoby Brissett is fine, but he's not going to get you a championship.
09:26But Arizona, I don't know if they are looking at their current place, thinking they're even
09:31close to that.
09:32That is very fair.
09:33Now, I know this is going to be shocking to you.
09:36Tom Brady and the Fanatics flag football classic, well, they're moving away from Saudi Arabia,
09:42and they're just going to have their event in Los Angeles.
09:45They said the geopolitical happenings of the world probably make it make sense to just bring
09:51to the United States and not have in the Middle East.
09:54What's going on?
09:55I'll tell you about it in the break.
09:57Okay.
09:57I appreciate it.
09:58There's been a lot happening.
09:58I like to be up to date.
09:59Okay.
10:00No problem.
10:01No problem.
10:01I'll walk you through it.
10:02We don't have to run through it.
