00:00In other news, the country's chairship of the ASEAN Summit meeting in May has identified 19 priority economic deliverables in
00:07its agenda covering MSME development, digital transformation, trade and investment cooperation, sustainability and economic resilience, among others.
00:16But it is the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Pact, the most comprehensive of its kind in the region, which seeks
00:23to create a digital environment that promotes openness, security, competition and inclusivity, which the Philippine government is all excited about,
00:31as our Gab Humilde reports.
00:34The ASEAN Preparatory Senior Economic Officials Meeting or ASEAN PRISIOM is scheduled for tomorrow, March 11.
00:42According to DTI Bureau of International Trade Relations Director Marie Sherilyn Akiya, the meeting will serve as a preliminary meeting
00:49to finalize the proposed agenda, review the status of priority economic deliverables or PEDs and build consensus on key strategies
00:58and policy directions,
00:59including regional resilience and other emerging economic priorities.
01:04The PEDs aim to strengthen regional cooperation while creating opportunities that support businesses, strengthen micro-small-medium enterprises, encourage innovation
01:14and deliver development that benefit citizens across the region.
01:18Under the Philippines' leadership of ASEAN this year, the 19 PEDs focused on trade and investment cooperation, digital transformation, MSME
01:26development, creative industries and innovation, and sustainability and economic resilience.
01:33Director Akiya shared that the leader's declaration will help a lot in the building of the ASEAN Center for Excellence
01:39on Micro-Small and Medium Enterprises or MSMEs, which is one of the PEDs being pushed by our country.
01:46Ang plano po at saka hangarin po natin, ma-establish ito sa Pilipinas. Pero marami po kasing issues dyan, kailangan
01:54pag-usapan yung terms of reference, yung governance structure, yung sustainability.
02:16Also one of the PEDs under the Philippines Chairship in ASEAN this year is the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement
02:23or the DEFA.
02:24It is considered the most comprehensive agreement that concerns the growth of digital economy and e-commerce in the region.
02:32It also aims to create a digital environment that is open, secure, interoperable, competitive, and inclusive.
02:40The agreement seeks to strengthen trust in the digital environment through measures such as online consumer protection, personal data protection,
02:51cyber security, and safeguards against online scams.
02:56These rules will help support businesses, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises, through improved cooperation in areas such as digital
03:06payments and electronic documentation.
03:09The Philippines reaffirms its commitment to work agreement with other ASEAN member states to bring the deal to completion and
03:17achieve its signing within the year.
