00:01you know there are moments in history when the followers of Christ are forced
00:08to wrestle with difficult questions not small questions and not comfortable
00:14questions but deep searching questions that reach into the very heart of what
00:21it means to follow Jesus in a complicated world and one of those
00:27questions rises whenever a powerful leader of a nation stands before the
00:32public and claims to be a Christian yet at the same time promotes war military
00:41expansion and the killing of other human beings for many believers this creates
00:48attention that is hard to ignore because when people think about Jesus Christ they
00:55don't picture someone calling for destruction they picture a savior who
01:02healed the sick lifted the broken embrace the outcast and forgave the very people
01:09who drove nails through his hands so when faith and violence appear side by side it
01:18forces Christians to pause and ask a deeper question what does it truly mean to
01:27follow Christ you know throughout history there have always been people who
01:33carried the label of faith while living in ways that seem to contradict it the
01:40Bible itself openly acknowledges this reality Jesus spoke about it directly in one of
01:48his most powerful teachings he warned his followers that not everyone who says the
01:54right words truly belongs to him he said that people will recognize authentic faith not by
02:03claims or public declarations but by the fruit that grows from someone's life fruit reveals the
02:15root so in other words what a person consistently does with their life
02:22eventually reveals what lives inside their heart and that principle is incredibly
02:29important when believers begin thinking about leaders governments and public
02:36figures who claim Christianity because Christianity has never been defined by words
02:44alone it is always been defined by transformation a transformed heart produces a
02:53transformed life the teachings of Jesus consistently reveal a very specific
03:00vision of power leadership and human value when Jesus walked the earth he entered a world that
03:10already understood power in a certain way nations believe power came through conquest
03:17and governments well they believe power came through force and leaders believe power came
03:26through domination and control but Jesus introduced something radically different he said the
03:35greatest among you must become the servant of all now think about that for a moment the
03:43one person in history who had the greatest claim to authority chose to kneel down and wash the feet of
03:53his
03:54followers the one man who could have commanded armies instead chose to heal enemies the one teacher who could have
04:05crushed his opponents with power instead chose to forgive them and perhaps the most powerful moment came in the garden
04:17of
04:17Gethsemane when the soldiers arrived to arrest Jesus one of his disciples drew a sword to defend him and in
04:27that
04:27that moment Jesus did something that still echoes through history he told his disciple to put the sword away that
04:40moment well that
04:42moment reveals something profound about the kingdom Jesus came to establish earthly kingdoms advance through force the kingdom of God
04:54well that
04:55that advances through transformation Jesus did not come to conquer nations he came to conquer hearts and that distinction
05:07changes everything because when Christians look at the action of leaders who claim to represent Christian values the
05:19the ultimate question becomes whether those actions reflect the spirit of Christ or the spirit of earthly power systems now
05:29this is where believers must
05:31approach the issue carefully and with humility Christians are not called to stand in judgment over the eternal destiny of
05:41of another person's soul of another person's soul that authority belongs to God alone no human being can look fully
05:50into another
05:51person's heart only God sees the entire picture but the Bible does call believers to practice discernment and
06:03discernment means comparing what we see in the world with the teachings of Christ and the principles of
06:10Scripture it means asking whether the actions being taken now align with the character of Jesus or whether they
06:20resemble the patterns of the world and this has always been an issue believers have faced for nearly 2,000
06:28years the early
06:31early Christians lived lived under the Roman Empire one of the most powerful and militaristic governments in
06:38history Rome expanded its influence through conquest military domination and political control yet the first
06:51followers of Christ well they did not attempt to seize political power in order to reshape the Empire instead the
07:01they lived differently they cared for the poor when no one else would they rescued abandoned
07:09infants that had been left to die they treated women with dignity in a culture that often did not they
07:19forgave their persecutors they prayed for their enemies and when violence was directed toward them many refused to
07:30respond with violence in return the Roman world had never seen anything like it and something
07:40remarkable began to happen people started to notice historians have written about how even critics of
07:49Christianity were forced to admit that these followers of Jesus well they possessed an unusual love for others
07:59there are accounts of pagan observers watching Christians risk their lives during plagues to care for the sick and
08:10dying while others fled the cities now that kind of love it changed the world not because Christians conquered the
08:21Empire but
08:22but because they revealed a different way of being human that's why believers must always remember
08:29something important Christianity is not defined by who holds political power Christianity is defined by who
08:40reflects the character of Christ and that character is unmistakable when you see it it's humble it's
08:52compassionate it values every human life it seeks reconciliation rather than destruction and it stands for truth
09:03while still living those who oppose it so when a leader claims to be a Christian while advocating policies that
09:14that involve war violence and the loss of human life Christians are allowed to wrestle with that tension honestly
09:23they're allowed to ask whether those actions align with the teachings of Christ or whether they represent
09:32strategies of earthly power but the response of believers should never become hatred or hostility
09:41Jesus warned about that as well you see it's easy to become angry and bitter and
09:49it's easy to become consumed by political conflict but when Christians lose the spirit of Christ while defending
09:57the name of Christ something deeply important has already been lost the call of the believer is higher than
10:07that you see as Christians we're called to anchor our identity in Christ above every political system every
10:16every ideology and every national identity because the kingdom of God is not limited to any nation or
10:25government it transcends them all every empire in human history has eventually fallen every government has
10:36changed and every ruler well they eventually fade into history but the kingdom of God the kingdom of God continues
10:48moving forward quietly through the hearts of people who choose love over hatred mercy over revenge humility over pride and
11:00truth over deception and this is where the real responsibility of the Christian begins the world will always have
11:10leaders who claim faith the real question is whether believers themselves will embody the teachings of Christ in
11:19their daily lives because the most powerful testimony Christianity has ever had was never political influence it was
11:30the most powerful influence it has transformed lives and when believers forgive instead of retaliating when they
11:38care for the vulnerable when they treat strangers as neighbors when they refuse to let hatred take root in their
11:47hearts when they choose truth even when lies are easier when they stand for peace in a world addicted to
11:56conflict
11:57conflict that is when the light of Christ becomes visible and in the end that light is far more
12:07powerful than any government army or empire the world has ever known the mission of the church has never been
12:17to dominate the world the mission of the church has always been to reveal the heart of Christ within it
12:26and when believers remain faithful to that mission the world begins to see something it desperately needs a
12:36different way to live a different kind of power a different kind of kingdom the kingdom of God my name
