39:48But for those of you who don't know it, here's the short version.
39:53My parents were both junior hockey coaches, and they were hit by a drunk driver when I was
39:5912 years old.
40:01Mercifully for them, they died instantly.
40:04Mercifully for me, the St. Thomas Scholarships existed.
40:10I didn't have anybody else to help me.
40:14I had a lot of memories, a love of hockey, and a huge hole in my heart.
40:20St. Thomas filled it with hope.
40:23The hope of a new family.
40:25Things weren't always easy.
40:27You know, they never are for anybody.
40:29But in hockey, I found what I was missing.
40:34First at my high school, then later at college, and now here with the admirals.
40:38And I never looked back, because I never had to.
40:44The family I craved, the family that I needed, that I still need today.
40:50Hockey gave it to me.
40:53And St. Thomas gave me hockey.
40:56So from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you all for being here tonight, and for supporting
41:01this cause, because it's not just a scholarship, it's everything that comes with it.
