00:05after 27 years of marriage, alleging that the actor was involved in an extramarital relationship
00:10with a fellow actor.
00:12The petition filed at the Chengal Pattu family court cites adultery and cruelty under the
00:16Special Marriage Act.
00:18Sangeeta claims she discovered the alleged relationship in 2021 and that it continued
00:23despite assurances causing her emotional distress, mental trauma and social isolation.
00:28In her plea, she has also alleged financial restrictions and exclusion from Vijay's
00:33social and professional life, adding that the marriage has broken down beyond reconciliation.
00:38Sangeeta Sonalingam, who hails from a London-based Sri Lanka Tamil family, met Vijay in the mid-1990s
00:44after watching one of his early films.
00:46The two married in 1999 in ceremonies held in both Christian and Hindu traditions and have
00:51largely kept their personal lives out of the public eye.
00:54They have two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha.
00:57While Jason is set to make his directorial debut, Divya has earlier appeared in films and is
01:02also a competitive badminton player.
01:04Vijay has not responded publicly so far and the case is currently before the court.
