04:18got buy-in from everybody else so i think the all-star game is in a terrible place i think

05:29nick i'm going to read this quote the expectations for this season are all the way off for the golden
05:35state warriors i don't disagree but emotionally can you explain that do you believe that like i just
05:43don't know if the warrior fan base operates that way even when the reality necessitates it
05:49well the warriors fan base and reality don't always go great together because you guys live on a daily
05:58basis so i mean let's be real about what's going on the expectations coming into this year were that
06:05this team could at least push towards the top of the west and i'm the first to admit guys that

06:12absolutely believe that the only two teams to start this year that could beat the warriors in a seven game
06:18series were the thunder and the nuggets you lose jimmy and that's all gone even if jimmy's healthy
06:25and they make a move you know you could make the argument for several different teams wimby and the
06:31spurs being there uh that would get past them anyway but besides that and the reality of what
06:38that injury did to the team this group has a ton of talent with steph at the helm and the
06:47big if
06:48in all the ifs that we're going to get into here is can he stay healthy down the stretch we'll
06:53see
06:53but if he does and porzingis is on the floor i count me in the group and it's a large
07:00one because
07:00it's most of the organization at this point if porzingis stays healthy he's gonna fit he does
07:07everything that they want him to do and they've wanted him for years so if those two guys are out
07:14there and find any kind of rhythm the supporting cast can push them i would think at least through
07:21the play-in if you get into the playoffs and you give somebody a shot then i think they could
07:27have a
07:28lot of fun on top of the fact mark that they they play 10 teams that are awful and tanky
07:33right so
07:34you'd think at nine of those you can have an off night maybe but nine of those 10 should be
07:40wins
07:41i i just think that this team's gonna win plenty in the next two months they're gonna be interesting
07:48because of the step factor always and all they keep saying is they want a shot i think they're gonna
07:54get that in a playoff setting do you expect tonight at the evening practice to get a strong
08:00sense of whether or not porzingis and or steph will be out on the floor when they return to action
08:05yeah i because dibs if they if we go in there in a couple hours and steve kirk says yeah

08:13out there we were kind of getting them through what's going on i would absolutely expect them to
08:18be out there on thursday if not then you go maybe they need a few more days and in steph's

08:25kirk has always said this is a day-to-day thing from what he's told us and from the responses

08:32we've gotten in talking to some of the other players i would expect both of those guys to be
08:37out there against the celtics if they're not then you start to wonder well just how much of an issue
08:43is this for steph and the runner's knee and then we're gonna open up a whole different can of worms
08:48with the porzingis stuff because it's going to go back to why would you acquire a guy that just can't
08:54be out there health-wise nick can we uh dive further into these comments with regard okay so
09:01the expectations are off they they aren't going to win a title they probably weren't anyway all of that
09:06but you mentioned that quote they can still find success in a season when they lost a lot of hope
09:12along the way how how would you define a successful season the rest of the way mark if they get

09:19the first round and they go six or seven games that is a hell of a successful year for this

09:25you lose a 55 million dollar a year player i don't care who you are i don't care if steph
09:31is on your team
09:32it does not matter if you lose a guy who is that important to your financials and who's that important
09:40to what you do on the floor and you can get into a playoff series and really give a a
09:45much better team
09:46a strong push that is an a great year given the circumstances that you're in and this starts off
09:55what you were talking about at the top in and as far as the fan base and expectations there is
10:02a portion
10:02of the fan base especially as i've gotten dropped into it again day to day for the last few months
10:07that just isn't based in reality you can't win a title every single year it's just not the way it
10:14goes they screwed up with the wiseman pick it was a bad whiff and everybody deserves blame from that
10:21starting with joe lake up on down that was a terrible screw up and they whiffed the cominga thing
10:28they tried they thought he was going to be better it didn't happen maybe he's going to be better
10:32somewhere else maybe he's not but the this idea that they're supposed to win a title every single
10:38year it's just insane it is insane i know everybody focuses back on well steph but but you can't not
10:46fill up the gaps uh behind steph curry and and you've done him a disservice every single team
10:54in the nba whiffs in the draft they whiff high they whiff low it was that they whiffed with the
11:01second pick after a year they went 15 and 50 i get it but this this feeling and it's just
11:08just complete
11:09uh people get just nuts about it that that they were supposed to be destined for six titles seven titles
11:17that steph was going to stay the same way go back and look at the years i mean steph breaks

11:23that year's gone the the covid year they didn't have enough i always say the bonus title because
11:29that's still what i believe completely you are going to come back off that and win another one
11:35with andrew wiggins as the second best player on your team i mean that team maximized everything it
11:41could in that moment so mark all of that being said i i just don't see any scenario where if
11:49they get
11:49into the playoffs and they get into a series and they're playing well that you could look at
11:54this season given how it started and what happened in the middle of it and not think that it's
12:00successful and part of the success for me will be what happens after the season with porzingis will be
12:05a free agent can you sign him for less melton will say no thank you to his player option what
12:11can he
12:11command do you think there's a scenario where they could keep both of those guys get jimmy healthy and
12:17give it a shot next year with that group yeah and dibs that's why at least from where i'm sitting
12:23i think this little two-month run is fascinating in that regard because if porzingis fits the way that
12:30everybody seems to think he will and he proves to the rest of the league he can stay on the
12:35floor well
12:36then you're you're either gonna do one of two things either you're gonna resign him and you're gonna
12:41figure out a way to make that work or you're gonna put him in some kind of signing trade and
12:45get
12:45another piece back but more of more than anything else you've got a player who's motivated to show
12:53the rest of the league on top of the warriors who just acquired him that he can stay out there
12:59and he's got to do that if he wants another big deal on the horizon at some point as far
13:06as melton goes
13:06there's no question that he fits he makes a lot of sense but when you're coming off
13:13an acl injury like he is and you're at 27 years old and you want to make a bunch of
13:19money given the
13:20contract that you're in and and will be coming out of because he's absolutely going to decline that
13:25player option just how important is it to him to stay in a situation where he's comfortable and he's
13:32been impressed with the training staff and they've gotten him out there again i mean all of these
13:37different layers are in play but absolutely i think that if the warriors can't land the star that
13:45everybody is hopeful for yannis kawaii whomever it may be somebody we're not even thinking of right now
13:51i think they'd be very happy running back with porzingis and melton alongside steph orford if he
14:00picks up his six million dollar option or so that's a very good team is it a championship level team

14:06think so because jimmy's coming off an acl injury draymond's ups and downs have been well documented
14:12they still need that extra piece but they'd at least be another interesting story going into next
14:19year if those pieces that they do have stay in place it's not nick carter it's nick fredell who is

14:51i think everybody's just taking a a a deep sigh of relief mark that it's over and i am not

14:59there saying oh well kaminga had to go he was against not that is not it at all i think

15:06involved the players the coaches uh steve kerr the front office everybody was just tired of dealing
15:12with it kaminga as well i mean kaminga wanted out of here it was so clear uh early on it
15:19probably has
15:19been clear for years uh since way before i came back and was covering the team day today everybody
15:26when that move finally went down was kind of like because they had to talk about it they were asked
15:34about it stuff was going on behind the scenes uh you were trying to figure out well is he gonna
15:40play
15:40will he be out there that oklahoma city game at the first of the new year when uh there was
15:46the lower
15:46back soreness you know an hour before everybody's walking into chase all of that is gone now kaminga gets
15:53his chance in atlanta to show the world what he can do the warriors see how porzingis looks
16:00next to steph and horford and hope that there's some kind of comfort level there but i say that
16:06because it's true i mean when that deal went down going back to that night in phoenix those next
16:13couple days the game against the suns where they came back and even now it's not that anybody wished
16:19coming any ill will i mean draymond and jimmy and steph everybody was supporting him publicly
16:25for a reason it was that it had become such a distraction that when it was finally over and
16:32everybody went their separate ways there was a relief emotionally of that we don't have to deal
16:37with this stuff anymore yeah and we kind of had the same relief maybe to a lesser extent because we
16:41always joke that all roads lead to kaminga but now those roads are closed and and they're blocked and
16:47so even for for steve kerr and i wonder nick what you think about steve kerr and his future does
16:53the
16:54kaminga trade make it in your view more likely that he comes back and coaches next year or is it
16:59not
16:59related i don't believe it's related mr dibs because i've always felt like it would be steve kerr at the
17:07end of the year saying do i still want to do this every day because no matter what you think
17:12of kerr the
17:13coach and again there are portions of the fan base that just can't stand kerr and want him out i
17:18don't
17:18understand that given he's won four titles and the best player in franchise history over and over again
17:24wants him to be there but hey you're entitled to your opinion great if kerr is burned out it doesn't
17:32matter if kaminga were here not here he may just not want to coach anymore and i think that was
17:38always
17:38the out he was leaving for himself dibs as we kept asking about it from the beginning of the year
17:45on he has been consistent i know he's been consistent with you guys because you talk to him every week
17:50when the time comes at the end of the year he'll sit down and he'll work through everything
17:55personally only in my opinion i have never believed that kerr was going to walk away from steve because he
18:02enjoyed coaching steph curry that much and he knows what he represents uh in the the the peace
18:10building of the team he knows that steph wants him there and i think that's important to him on top

18:15the fact guys that if kerr does come back he's making 20 plus some odd million a year so the
18:21only way
18:22steve kerr walks away is if he's just completely burned out maybe the kaminga thing had a part to do
18:30with that early in the year i mean certainly you guys aren't the first people to to say hey
18:34steve kerr looked a little tired like i have heard that a lot but i don't think that burned him
18:40out to
18:41a place where he's like i'm just not going to coach anymore i would still be surprised if we're sitting
18:47here in the summer and he has left to go do something else all right nick brandon podjemski is
18:54extension eligible this summer what are the warriors thinking right now how do they view this situation
19:01mark i think that's another interesting part of these next couple months
19:06and and when you are trying to figure out what they're thinking and what they might do
19:11i think pods has a a new opportunity and a fresh start in these last 27 games to say all

19:20the first half didn't go the way i wanted it to i've been up and down the fan base was
19:26or at least
19:27again a portion of it was really pissed off at some of the stuff i had said early in the
19:32year
19:32i think pods could sit there and say hey forget it all i'm gonna go out and i'm gonna play
19:37very well
19:38and i'm going to talk to the organization about being here down the line the answer to your question
19:46though is pods is gonna have to show that he can play at a higher level and the organization would
19:51want to come to him and say hey maybe we want you back but it's going to be at our
19:57number so what the
19:59next couple months to me look like are pods playing if he does play at a different level we're going
20:06to
20:07find out just how much he wants to be a warrior because i think they would get something done but
20:12it
20:12would have to be on their terms at their figures and if pods really wants to go get paid and
20:17he
20:17wants a bigger opportunity somewhere else then the warriors aren't going to be a place for him because
20:23that's still going to be here and as much trust as steve kirk still has in him if he wants
20:29big big
20:29money i you know i don't know if this is going to be the place that has it right away
20:34but as far as
20:36this specific situation goes the power is in pods hands if he goes out these next couple months and
20:43he plays very well and he is able to help push them into that first round playoff series
20:51he's going to have whatever choice he wants to make if he doesn't mark then pods is going to run
20:57into a situation where even more pressure is going to be on him to start next year and these conversations
21:02are only going to grow louder because it's either going to be do they re-up him for the future
21:07or do
21:07they move him somewhere else and start over with a different piece vegas baby vegas but nick back to
21:14the grind um great having you as always so yeah you think you think thursday night chris stops and
21:20steph are both playing i do okay but dibs point uh from uh the beginning it's going to depend on
21:28at least
21:29to me what is said tonight because if we walk in there and a porzingis and steph they went through
21:35most of the drills they're feeling good we're going to give them another practice on wednesday and then
21:39we'll see where we're at thursday cool if we start tweeting out in a couple hours yeah steph didn't do
21:45anything and porzingis is limited and then we're gonna have a few more question marks to deal with so
21:50what's the what's the schedule tonight because this is kind of unique it's unique because what they
21:56were trying to do is give the players more time if they were going somewhere right to come back and
22:02i've seen this before in the league it's not really unique to the warriors but what the warriors decided
22:07was we still want to have a couple practices before the start of the second half before that game on
22:13thursday so we're gonna push the practice i don't even think they're gonna be out there on the floor
22:18for like another hour or so with the media we're not even going in there for another couple hours so
22:24they were just allowing for players who might have left right after wednesday's game as i'm sure a few
22:30of them did to have an as long of a stretch as they could away and then at the last
22:37moment get back
22:38have a night practice have another one tomorrow and then see where everybody is thursday okay we'll be
22:44doing something that we don't always do which is diving to twitter at nine o'clock tonight
