00:00Leave you though with something that makes me feel a little good today because three days ago
00:05I had tweeted. The tweet was Pakistan's eternal shame. Yes last week that's how I described the
00:12treatment being meted out to former Pakistan Prime Minister and one of the country's greatest
00:17ever cricketers Imran Khan in jail. I then asked why was there such silence over the fact that he
00:23was not being given proper care behind bars. Asking why were prominent cricketers in Pakistan
00:29and across the globe choosing to remain silent. That was three days ago. Well guess what the good
00:35news that radio silence has now been broken. Fourteen captains international captains have today spoken
00:42out signing a petition urging Pakistan Prime Minister Shabazz Sharif and the government to ensure the
00:47proper medical care and fair treatment being provided to Imran Khan in jail. Maybe they should
00:52have written that to General Aasem Munir. Among the signatories are Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Steve Waugh,
00:58Ian Chappell, Greg Chappell, Alan Border, John Wright and Clive Lloyd. No Pakistani cricketers sadly
01:04have still signed the letter although players like Wasi Makram and Waqar Younis have expressed sympathy
01:10for Imran Khan. Listen in to what Sunil Gavaskar had to say to Nikhil Nas.
01:19Fourteen former captains, cricket captains have come together to write an appeal to the Pakistan
01:25government to give to Imran Khan a fair treatment. One of those 14 captains joins us right now in Mr.
01:31Sunny Gavaskar. Saeva, I know you and Imran Khan go back a long way and it's great to see the
01:36cricketing
01:37community come together but Imran has been there in jail for you know close to three years now.
01:43What prompted all of your legends to get together and write this appeal?
01:47Yes Nikhil, I've known Imran since India played against Worcester way back in 1971. He was just a
01:5417 year old trying to qualify as an overseas player for Worcester and since then we've played against each
02:01other. We captained our countries against each other and got to know each other very well, fairly well and
02:08therefore to see you know the the news coming out about you know the the health problems that he's had
02:14because of inadequate medical treatment certainly you know made me want to join the appeal for
02:24Okay, there is Sunil Gavaskar and good on him and all those who speak out for Imran Khan.
02:30Speak up whether it's women wrestlers in India or indeed Imran Khan in Pakistan.
