00:00I'm sure you can raise your hands to get your chance of asking your questions alternately, so a few minutes,
00:08not a lot, a few minutes.
00:09Shari, yesterday your coach said Mumbai has been kind to West Indies as far as World Cup is concerned.
00:14How kind has it been to you tonight?
00:17Oh, well, we won a game, so very kind.
00:19It's one of those grounds that when you come here, you just feel like playing cricket.
00:24I can say the same for most of the venues in India,
00:26but something about here in 1KD just brings a different vibe, different energy.
00:31But yeah, it's a very nice ground to play at.
00:33It's just nice to get a win as well here.
00:38Shea, a 3-0 defeat last year to England in a three-match series last year,
00:44followed by that series loss to Nepal.
00:46How much does this win on a wicket which had something for both batters and bowlers
00:50stand in terms of your own campaign in this World Cup,
00:54given you are facing a full side, a formal, a very tough competitor?
01:01Like I said before, it's World Cup cricket that we're speaking about.
01:06And it's very important for us to ensure that we play the best cricket we can on the day,
01:11every single time we turn up.
01:12It's not like a bilateral series where you can go one down and then come back in the series
01:17and win 3-2 or whatever the case may be.
01:20You've got to make sure you try to execute as precisely as you can, especially from the jump.
01:26Because like I said, there's not really a second or third game that you can come back and hope for
01:31the best.
01:32But for us, I can't really put too much stress and emphasis on the past.
01:37I always talk about learning from the past.
01:39The results that we've had previously, that's something that we can't necessarily control.
01:45Now we've got to focus on what's in front of us.
01:47And it's just nice to get two wins in our first two games.
01:50And the aim is to continue that trend.
01:52And hopefully we can get a nice, smooth sailing going into the rest of the group stage games.
01:58Thanks, Wester.
02:02I can hear you.
02:03No stop motion.
02:05Just shy.
02:06Yeah.
02:07You're joking.
02:12You brought Rosten into the team and bowled a lot of spin through the middle there.
02:18Was that a plan specifically for England?
02:20Do you sense that they have a few issues against spin?
02:22Yeah, like I said at the toss, it was a tactical change.
02:25He's one of those players who can come in and call at any moment in time.
02:29Yeah, we understood the threat that they have with some of those left-handlers who can take the game away
02:34from us.
02:34And he's, again, one of those bowlers who can come in and depend on at any point in time.
02:39We saw he was very crucial and essential with the bat in our bat in the news as well.
02:44So he gave us some stability.
02:47And like I said, he's one of those utility players that you can never neglect.
02:52Is that specific for England, though?
02:54Is that something you see as a way to get at England?
02:59It was just the team we felt as though needed to win against England and we just selected that team.
03:05I don't know if you've been asked this before, but if you could describe Sherphane's journey till now,
03:10like, you know, we must have seen him from close quarters.
03:14So is he somebody who, like, feels the pressure or just sort of bats in the way that all of
03:20you guys just bat with a natural flair?
03:23Maybe I have to ask him that one.
03:24But speaking on Sherph, he's been always a hard worker, especially when it comes to his batting.
03:31He's always very diligent with the way he goes about his preparation.
03:36And he would bat from the start of the session all the way through to the end if he's really
03:40working on something.
03:41And I don't think that has changed from the time he came into the team all the way till now.
03:45And so it's just nice to see when guys are putting in that hard work in the nets and that
03:49preparation that the success follows.
03:52So it's very good to see Sherph coming in and making an impact once again today.
03:56And it's good to see the batters putting their hands up.
03:59Still got a few myself who need to do so.
04:01But happy days for Sherphane.
04:03I hope he can continue.
04:04I hope it's not too bad, that little injury that he has to do.
04:08Three more questions.
04:09One here.
04:12Shai, was there any surprise to see England bowl first and a huge surface?
04:17And halfway mark, did you think that the total that you got was par for that surface, considering the amount
04:23of turn that was there?
04:25Honestly, I think, because I would have done the same.
04:27I actually would have bowl first.
04:29One kiddie, it tends to be a chasing venue, especially when the tiny ball comes to come on a bit
04:35better.
04:36The dew factor was not there today, but usually you get it pretty wet.
04:42So it's kind of difficult for the spinners to grip the ball in the second innings especially.
04:49But maybe just a round par, I would say, for us.
04:54But still happy to get something on the board.
04:56Like I said before, it's a World Cup game.
04:58And that in itself could be an extra 10, 20 runs.
05:02So it's just important for us to make sure we try to maximize as best as we can and then
05:06execute with the ball after.
05:09Shai, again on Shafin Rutherford, the numbers don't do justice to his talent or what he's capable of.
05:17What makes him special?
05:18Because he has close to 50 T20s and doesn't average more than 22 or something.
05:24Just 50 in T20s today.
05:26What makes him that special?
05:28You can just watch him and see how special he is.
05:30But sometimes we've got to throw stats out of the window every now and again.
05:35You know, you can just look at a player and see what impact he has on a team.
05:39If you can ask any bowler in World Cricket, if they see Shafin Rutherford at the next end,
05:45they're going to always feel as though they're under pressure.
05:47So that in itself speaks for itself.
05:49So I don't think we necessarily need to focus too much on the stats.
05:52I'm sure that they'll improve over the next few years because he's a quality player.
05:56Like I said before, I'm just happy to see him getting the success that he truly deserves
06:00because he's been playing really well.
06:02He's been training hard and it's only a matter of a time before the consistency comes.
06:06So happy for him.
06:07One final one.
06:09Shai, West Indies is one of the team who knows Nepal very well, having played them in September.
06:13Akhil and Jason were part of that team.
06:15So has there been any change of how you look at Nepal after that England match?
06:19Do you see your, as you said, you see match by match.
06:22How do you see Nepal coming up?
06:24Has there been any change to look at them after that England match?
06:27Like I said before, it's work up.
06:30Any team in this tournament can beat any other one on a day.
06:33So you've got to ensure we're still executing the way we need to.
06:38The planning must be there once again, not taking anyone lightly.
06:42We understand the importance of every single game, even though we give ourselves a nice
06:47position to be in.
06:48But still, we've got to ensure we plan in the same way, we execute in the same way against
06:52Nepal.
06:53If you look at the batting order, we see a lot of your players in the current line-up
06:57playing as finishers in the franchise leagues, but you balanced it out with Ruston coming
07:02in in the middle as well.
07:03So how does that fade out with Haiti coming in at number three?
07:06How has the team coped up with that?
07:09I think the fellas just, it was a smooth transition.
07:14The way we discussed it amongst ourselves, he was the best way for us to maximise as a batting
07:21unit, and as everyone can see, we have a very powerful batting line-up.
07:25If everyone clicks on a day, we could be very dangerous.
07:27Just about trying to find the best ways to maximise everyone's ability and skill.
07:33He's still one of the better batters in world cricket, and he's not just a hitter.
07:38Hekmaar is actually a batter.
07:39He can play all situations, in my opinion.
07:42So just again, wants to maximise his skill set and his ability for the team, and he's
07:47sorted him really nicely at number three, and he's making some impact.
07:50Straight away.
07:51Alright, thank you guys.
