After several weeks of snowy, cold weather across the mid-Atlantic and much of the Southeast, both warmth and rain are back in the forecast for the second week of February.
Transcript
00:00Here we are in the snow-covered campus of Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg on Friday.
00:08It's been impressive to see all this snow here across much of the south for such a long period of time.
00:13And interior western Virginia here seeing quite a bit of snow there.
00:18So let's take a look at our current setup here tonight.
00:20We have another cold night on our hands into the Carolinas and Virginia as well.
00:25We'll get down below freezing here in Roanoke and Virginia Beach, 28, 29 degrees in those areas, 32 in Charlotte.
00:31Charleston, a little nippy there, 41.
00:33Still 30s in North Florida.
00:35Jacksonville on the road down to 36.
00:37There are areas west of there where we may have a frost again.
00:40And we'll get down to 42 in Nashville.
00:43Dallas, you're looking a little bit better at 60 degrees.
00:45So as we move forward here on the heels of that Blacksburg snow from late last week,
00:51a different pattern begins to break out Tuesday.
00:52We turn warmer.
00:54Temperatures bouncing back a bit.
00:56Still a little cool east of the eastern divide, east of the Appalachians.
01:02Temperatures still struggling a little bit.
01:03But we're on the mend here.
01:05Temperatures are trending upward here in a big way.
01:08We'll be watching out for the return of some rain as well.
01:11It won't happen Tuesday.
01:13We'll press pause Tuesday afternoon.
01:15Here you can see we're seeing a little more cloud cover across the Gulf Coast states
01:18and into parts of Kentucky.
01:19Maybe a few downpours there near London or Somerset, 4 p.m.
01:22But the more widespread showers and rain will be on the map there into west central Texas,
01:27moving up into southern Oklahoma and parts of Arkansas as well.
01:31That expands east, so it will reach the southeast then on Wednesday.
01:35Here we get into it.
01:36Rain in areas like Coleman and Huntsville, up into Florence, Alabama, Tupelo, Mississippi,
01:41seeing some pretty decent showers out there.
01:44Rain showers increase into south and central Georgia as well.
01:46We're going to have some rain into areas around east Texas and Louisiana.
01:51So not a long-lasting event, but there will be some showers out there.
01:54And then into Wednesday afternoon, still some lingering showers south of Atlanta
01:57with the sun returning farther north.
01:59We'll be tracking that.
02:01By the way, there will be a chance for some thunderstorms Saturday for the Gulf Coast states
02:04with another system that will be emerging.
02:07But Wednesday, again, during the day, a big slug of rain from Nashville to Raleigh.
02:11By Wednesday evening and Wednesday night, it gets trimmed out of areas north of Atlanta,
02:16though the showers will remain farther to the south.
02:19And into Thursday, we're quickly back to dry weather.
02:22It bounces out of here pretty quickly.
02:23We do turn colder behind that system.
02:25It is another system tied to a cold front.
02:28So temperatures drop once again into Roanoke, Blacksburg, and across the Carolinas.
02:32And a little bit of a stripe of showers from Manatee County, Florida,
02:35all the way to the east into portions of the coast south of the Space Coast, warmer into Texas.
