00:00In Tanzania, opposition pressure is mounting after Jadema's deputy chairman, Don Heche,
00:06was arrested outside the high court in De El Salaam.
00:10Heche had gone to attend the treason trial of party leader Tindu Lusu,
00:15who was detained in April and could face the death penalty.
00:19His lawyer says party members are now bowed from visiting Lusu,
00:22raising fresh concerns over political oppression.
00:25But what has happened from the 12th of November 2025 to this day,
00:31is that the right has been taken away from him.
00:35The prisoner officers, basically, listed everything that he listed to his lawyers.
00:41Likewise, the leaders of Jadema and the members of Jadema are prevented now from visiting him in prison.
00:50President Samir Hassan has intensified a crackdown on dissent.
00:56John Heche says opposition leader Tindu Lusu is now under pressure to go into exile.
01:06At first, they told him they will only free him if he accepts to flee the country to Europe,
01:11something which our chairman rejected.
01:13He made it clear he will not accept any conditions that will force him to leave the country.
01:18They have been using different means to blackmail us so as to expel Lusu, including reconciliation.
01:27We will absolutely not accept this.
01:29All we want is for them to free Lusu without any conditions.
01:32President Hassan is seeking re-election next October after taking office in 2021.
01:43Though her rise was met with opposition and early reforms,
01:46rights groups now accuse her government of renewed attacks on opposition figures and critical voices.
