00:00The government has given local councils the authority to
00:29act on any house of worship that is intentionally built in breach of existing laws, says Prime
00:36Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
00:37Anwar said Putra Jaya would no longer permit the construction of any house of worship
00:42that does not comply with regulatory requirements.
00:46A rally against illegal temples was set to take place last Saturday but fizzled out after
00:51the arrest of several individuals who had planned to proceed with the protest despite
00:56orders to cancel it.
00:58Anwar said Malaysians were free to voice their opinions and criticise the government but
01:02that any action that violated the law or stoked racial tensions would be met with the full
01:07force of the law.
01:09Last week, KLANG MP V. Ganabati Rao said many Hindu temples across the country had yet to
01:15be gazetted as official places of worship largely due to unresolved historical land administration
01:21problems.
