00:00I had the great fortune to get a call from Alan Silvestri as he was throwing a picture.
00:08He said that he was doing this picture with Robert Zemeckis and he wanted me to write the song.
00:15And so he didn't have to ask me twice.
00:18Now I had written this wonderful theme that was going throughout the picture.
00:22At that point we were inspired by the actual movie to write the song Believe.
00:28As we started developing this musical theme, it seemed obvious to us that there were very few candidates on the male side who had the vocal ability and the sensibility of singing.
00:42And we both wouldn't be doing this. It was Josh Blue.
00:44I was so honored to receive the phone call saying that Robert Zemeckis wanted to put a song in the movie.
00:53It was something that was produced by Glenn Ballard and Alan Silvestri.
00:57These are people that I've always idolized and wanted to work with.
01:00We were just hoping against hope that we would first of all be interested and secondly would like the song and thirdly be available to do it.
01:08Like just about everything else on this picture, it's been kind of a charmed collaboration.
01:13I think all the stars are lying on it.
01:14Josh, are we going to do one from the top?
01:17Today's session is one of the best ever.
01:20We're here in Vancouver, Canada because Josh Groban is on his concert tour.
01:25We're working in a wonderful studio here with a wonderful staff.
01:28Josh was absolutely focused along here, so he couldn't have gone any better.
01:35And, you know, I wish all the projects I worked on were this fulfilling and this rewarding on every level.
01:42You never know what you're going to get when you're walking in the studio and you've got the lyrics, you've been working on it, you've been rehearsing it.
01:48And there's a certain feeling that you get from just rehearsing it that you try and take with you into the studio.
01:53And then you have to try and take yourself to another level and just try and block out everything else, the microphone, where else is in your way, and just sing.
02:17This was a really, really fun day for me.
02:32I don't want to work with Glenn, but just to sing the song.
02:35I've been looking forward to today for a really long time.
02:37You know, the lyric definitely takes from the story of the movie and the book.
02:47And, you know, in the movie, you know, what everybody has to discover is that, you know, the belief, you know, comes from within you.
02:55And that it's something that no matter how old you get and where life takes you, it's just something inside you that you have to keep with you.
03:01And so the moral of the song and the story is to not let go of that belief, like to not let go of that feeling that you get, you know, at that time of year.
03:12You know, it's a great, great melody and incredible.
03:16It's just a chance to be a part of such an amazing, well-done and heartfelt project and had to be working with such incredible minds.
03:33There was never even a hesitation in terms of, you know, what I do.
03:37I just, I heard the song, it was perfect.
03:40The vibe of the film is just so, so beautiful, but it was really such a pleasure to work on it.
03:46Just really such a highlight to get the call to do it.
03:50It's just a thrill.
04:01It's such, such an incredible time.
