Kenya Moore on Her Relationship with Her Mom
Transcript
00:00so this season you also kind of really opened up your more about your relationship with your
00:09mother yeah would you change anything about that episode because I remember when your aunt and
00:14your cousin came to you and they were like you shouldn't have gone there yeah I was like what
00:17she should of course it made a lot of people mad but yeah but it was brave looking back now is there
00:22anything you would have done differently no would you do it exactly the same yeah I don't live my
00:26life in regret I mean I make mistakes like everyone else but I think with my family it is a part of who
00:34I am is a part of why I am strong why I have thick skin now because I had to be strong because of
00:40everything that my mother did to me honestly and people only know a fraction of the story and for
00:45me because my dad was back in my life I finally felt strong enough to just really just take it to
00:53her door this is her house what I'm gonna go and see if she'll answer the door
01:00it's all right dad do not follow me I have to do this by myself oh my god I hadn't done that before
01:11and I had reached out to her of course hundreds of times off camera this has been my life for 45 years
01:19I just started this show four years ago so you know for me it was just time for closure either
01:26way and I just had to do it hello hi hello it's Kenya I'm here by myself and I want to speak to you
01:39I heard you lock the door and I felt relieved in a bit in a way because I felt like it was over and I
01:49didn't have to torture myself internally anymore and I felt stronger because I had my dad on my side and
01:56he was just like he's been my biggest fan even when we were apart and I just feel like I had I heard
02:05from so many people that have similar situations not the same but abandonment or or non-acknowledgement
02:13or just feeling abused mentally from a parent you know and I just feel like I helped a lot of people be
02:21braver and and be stronger for it yeah so I'm not I don't regret it all at all and I'm sure you did you know
02:31helped a lot of people to know they're not alone yeah I did feel that so many letters so many um
02:37messages people reaching out and um so I thought it was important yeah the one of the most positive
02:44things about my history on this show came from this season one is being able to help people with their
02:51abandonment issues or just issues with their own families and then two just being able to get my dad
02:57back and I would not I don't think I would have ever done it if I wasn't on the show you know what
03:03would you say to her um you know uh I would just really want to listen I don't feel like I need to
03:12say you did this you did that she knows what she's done I would just want to listen to her story
03:18because that's what I don't know because there was probably hurt on this yeah you never know
03:24yeah and that's the one thing that's missing is I have never heard her story and I've only heard
03:30bits and pieces but she never speaks about it and maybe there's just a lot more there that I don't
03:36know but at this point it's just going to be in her own time and you being brave enough even at this
03:42point to say I still just want to listen that's huge of you yeah I know I think you learn a lot
03:48about a person if you just listen to their story and then it kind of you know makes it I don't know
03:53her I just know what she's done to me so um I would just want to listen that's it well we're going to
04:01be watching oh yes we're already glued yeah it's a good season I'm almost crying but I'm like hold it
04:06back yeah I'm sorry yeah it's just like you know it's some good it's some good things you know
04:11how do you respond when people say your relationship with your mother is what informs
04:15your relationships with other women oh I think it has absolutely something to do with that because
04:20I don't trust people I think I have a wall up initially people have to earn that so um that
04:28obviously comes from not trusting your primary person who's supposed to give love and care and
04:35protection to you yeah if you don't have that then the other women that come to your life
04:40they could be masked as someone trying to hurt you and I think that that's that's my own
04:45cross that I bear but I'm aware of it so I work to fight against that but it it um peppers everything
04:53every relationship men um family um girlfriends yeah so before we wrap that hair is always
05:02yes thank you thank you I will I will Kenya more hair care yes I'll give me our address because I
05:17got I I don't know why I left my bag with my Kenya more hair care but I'm so excited to share it with
05:23and people love the product and I just I just can't wait to share with you guys thank you yes thank you
