00:00Hey guys, I'm celebrity hairstylist Cynthia Alvarez and I'm here to show you five fall
00:08must-have wigs.
00:09First, we're going to start out with a U-part wig, which is one of the easiest to pull off.
00:15Basically, it's just track sewn on a wig cap and as you can see, all of her crown is going
00:20to be left out.
00:21So to begin, I measure her head like this, so that way I know how much to part and tie
00:29it away.
00:36So before we braid the rest down, I have to separate the crown area that's going to go
00:40over her wig.
00:41In order to pull this wig off, you have to have medium to long hair, so that none of the
00:46tracks are going to show.
00:53You also want to leave some of your hairline out to cover the front.
00:56About a quarter inch behind your hairline.
00:59Part it all the way to the ear.
01:01And depending on how you're going to style your wig, if you're normally just going to
01:05leave it down, you can just braid all the back up.
01:07If you're going to pull it up into a ponytail, then I would suggest you part some of it out.
01:11I like to twist the braid the front so that it doesn't go into the other braids.
01:28You get cleaner lines like that, and it's just easier to attach the wig when you have
01:33a clear view of all the lines and the parts.
01:42Once you've parted the front out of your wig, what I normally do is I just do like maybe
01:48an inch section at a time and braid that down so it lays as flat as possible on your head.
01:54You also want to keep the braids close to the part so that way the wig can anchor onto the
02:01braids.
02:02Cool.
02:03Perfect.
02:04So once you've braided all the hair up, next what you're going to do is you're going to wrap
02:15the braids, intertwine them into each other, and then try to pin them so they lay flat as
02:21possible on the head.
02:22Now, depending on how long you're going to wear your unit, you can make the braids thicker,
02:27which allow you to take them out a bit easier, or you can make them a little thinner if you're
02:32going to wear it for a longer period of time.
02:35Just pin any of those loose ends that you see kicking up, because the last thing you want
02:41to do is for your unit to be big and lumpy.
02:44As you can see, the braids are really laying flat to her head.
02:49Now we attach the u-part.
02:52I've added two clips on both ends of the u-part, so they're going to clip right there.
03:03Other people like to sew it on.
03:05Other people add combs.
03:07I find that clips are just really easy to take on and off.
03:11And if you're going to sew it down, you're obviously going to leave it on for some time.
03:16There we go.
03:18Make sure all the braids are tucked under the unit.
03:21And then you can go in and start pinning again.
03:24I like to use longer pins for this, so that they really anchor into the braid, and you don't
03:30get any slippage or, you know, you don't have any of the wigs sliding up and down.
03:36Feel for the braids.
03:38Put the pin through the wig cap and right through the braid.
03:43Okay.
03:44Now you can start undoing your sections and start styling and blending with your wig.
03:51I personally like to style my wigs on the mannequin head, so that way I can get the shape that
03:56I really, really want.
03:57It's pretty hard to style on your own if you're not used to it.
04:01So it's easier if you just do it on the mannequin head as opposed to your own head.
04:06But once the wig is on, you have to kind of style your hair to match the texture of the wig.
04:11So for Brittany today, we gave her some, you know, beachy waves, something really casual.
04:16So what I'm going to do is I'm just going to match that texture with her own.
04:23And when you're dealing with a Upart wig, you also want to make sure that the texture and
04:30the color match your hair perfectly.
04:32So if you have finer hair, you want the hair not to be so thick on the Upart unit, so that
04:38way it's relatively undetectable.
04:41Another great thing about Uparts is the versatility that you have.
04:45Like right now, Brittany can part her hair anywhere on her crown.
04:48She can do a side part.
04:49She can do a middle part.
04:51She can even pull it back if she wanted to.
04:54Because we left some hair out on her edges, she can pull it back and not, and have like
04:59no consequences.
05:00You can't see any of the wig, any of the tracks.
05:02So once you're done styling it to your liking, give it a nice little zhuzh, just for some
05:14extra body, and then spray in place.
05:18If you notice that like you can see the separation between your hair and the Upart, then what you
05:23can do is just lift it up, tease it a little bit, and blend the two together.
05:37All right folks, the installation of a Upart wig.
