00:13the Government today assured locals the site will be staying green.
00:16The plans say that we've got over 60% of that green space
00:20that we'll keep for sport and recreation for our community,

00:24Also staying will be the heritage listed Murray House
00:27and nearby community facilities.
00:29100 new homes will instead be built on vacant land across the road,
00:33while the existing campus buildings will be earmarked
00:35for five-storey retirement facilities.
00:37The Government arguing it's got value for its $64 million land acquisition.
00:42It's never about the money as far as the Government's concerned,
00:44it's about getting what the community needs.

00:54The future of the McGill campus was a thorny local issue for Labor.
00:57The site sits on the boundary of two marginal Liberal seats
01:00held by Vincent Tarzia and John Gardner,
01:02who have both campaigned strongly against selling the site off
01:05for high-density housing.
01:07The Government hopes releasing its plans will quell community angst
01:10and help them win these seats at next month's election.
