00:00First time homeowners playing host to the Prime Minister.
00:06Where were you before? Just around the corner actually.
00:09Anthony Albanese out of Northern Suburbs Housing Development
00:12announcing an $800 million partnership between the Federal and State Governments
00:17to make way for 17,000 new homes.
00:20So good for housing supply, good for people's quality of life,
00:24good for increasing home ownership and security that comes with that.
00:29The Commonwealth will fund a series of loans to the State Government
00:32to prime more land for development, including $300 million
00:36for more water infrastructure in the northern suburbs,
00:39$184 million for urban renewal projects across Adelaide,
00:42and $50 million for civil works at the Playfit Alive development in Manopara.
00:47The Commonwealth and State Governments will also each contribute $133 million
00:52to deliver 750 homes for first home buyers.
00:55We acknowledge that the private sector has to partner with government
00:58and state and federal government needs to cooperate to unlock that growth.
01:03The housing industry backs the move.
01:05The biggest impediment to delivering additional housing supply right now
01:09is the enabling infrastructure that we need to see more of.
01:12But concerns remain.
01:13Everyone knows there's a trading shortage.
01:15I don't think people realise just how bad it's going to get.
01:18Housing's a key campaign issue ahead of the March state election,
01:22and it's a point of difference between the two major parties.
01:26The Liberals say today's plan lacks detail,
01:29and argue their policy to scrap stamp duty for first home buyers
01:33on established homes would do more to help young people into the market.
01:38Even if they manage to pull it off, this lofty promise,
01:42young South Australians won't be getting into these homes any time soon.
01:46Labor says it still includes nearly 7,000 homes for first home buyers.
01:51And so what I do is learn to sustain these homes.
01:53You've got a lot of money to accelerate those homes for the first home buyers.
01:56But you've got a lot of money to give to them.
01:59You know, they don't have a lot of money to pay for help.
02:00You have a lot of money to pay for them.
02:02You want to pay for them.
02:04You want to pay your aid?
02:05You want to pay your aid?
02:06You need your aid to pay for nothing.
02:08You need your aid to pay for money.
02:09You need your aid to pay for $2000 million.
